Ya in my area, my phone company is way behind on technology. Max speed plan I could get is 6 Mbps which costs $99. I currently got the 4 Mbps, which is 500 KB/s, for $49 a month.
I live in Texas. I guess my speed isn't too bad cause I do live out in the country and not in the city. I could probably get a much better internet speed if I got cable. If they even offer cable in my area.
**** i'm getting 2.83 they keep telling me ( Verizon) that i should be getting 7. Not to happy with them atm.

Nice...soon actually meant soon!
Now who all is putting their recliner in place of their desk chairs? (looks up to the ceiling innocently while whistling)
Yea got my bag of dice, pencil's, pencil sharpner, and all my books...
;p
For reals, already did my pc upgrades earlier (for company of heroes 2, NWO, etc...). Too bad I can't swing the vacation time though due to having students until April 26th. The things we sacrifice to help others learn!
Just ordered a 32" tv online and should get it before BW4. :P Spent $390 on it. I never hooked a tv up to a computer, guess I just need to get a HDMI cable right?

In most cases yes. Though typically video cards are micro/mini HDMI. So need a mico/mini HDMI to HDMI~ should find out before it comes in.

Yeah make sure you need an HDMI and not a nasty icky Micro-HDMI.
I would suggest buying the "cheap" products from Amazon and such. Most experienced people you ask would tell you the gold plating bla bla bla is hooplah and the dollar cords are no worse than the ones you could buy in your local store for an arm and a leg.
I'm not sure why but HDMI Cords are stupidly overpriced. I work in retail, trust me, it's a blind mark-up item which for some crazy stupid reason costs the company a quarter of what they retail at-and that's the recommended retail from the manufacturer. *shakes head*
Oh and by the way HD TV's NEED HDMI cables. NEED them.
If you don't have them your picture will be blurrier than a TV from 1960 viewed from behind a waterfall. Coaxle cables do not work.

Sam's Club had a great deal on HDMI cables a couple months ago: two cables (different lengths, don't remember but one was REALLY long and one was decent) - for like $30. So check out Sam's.
Also, once I get the gaming laptop, it will definitely be getting hooked up to the 55" TV. Then Neverwinter from the Couch will happen, bwahaha!
Speaking of prepared... apparently GOG.com finally have Neverwinter Nights and to top it off it's on sale. Urrrgh, my wallet feels empty.

$30 dollars for an HDMI Cable is actually really expensive.
Ten seconds of searching on amazon brought up a 50' Cable (max recommended) for 15 dollars and free shipping lol.
Those cables in any store go for around 4x that cost or more.
I so regretted buying HDMI Cables in stores after somebody clued me into amazon. I mean I bought a 6' cord for my mother's TV at store cost for 7 bucks. I thought I got a good deal then since that was supposed to get retailed at 15-20 dollars but...
Blegh.

It was a pack of *two* HDMI cables from Sam's though, and I think they were 10' and 25' respectively. I know you can definitely find cheaper on Amazon (yay Amazon Prime!) but it's still not bad, especially because you can walk out of the store with them right then.

I 'prepared' by getting permission to take off Thursday and Friday for 'vacation'... Have to go back to work Monday the 29th but that'll still give me a nice head start before the massive hordes slam the servers.

I'm still figuring out exactly what time off I am going to ask for. Ideally I'd like to take off 4/25 through 5/3, but the workload I'd come back to would be painful. I also don't want to leave my boss high and dry for a week (even though he WOULD survive...). So I'm thinking maybe asking to work half-days from home or something. Gotta have that discussion with da boss and see what he says!
How can I tell if I need a mini-HDMI cord or just a HDMI cord?
Don't matter really there's no difference between the two really its just the connector type used IE the shape of the plug.
As for gold contacts well gold is a sightly poor conductor but last longer if you dont keep plugging and unplugging as it don't oxidise.
As for ready let me just check yep I am ready even got a backup PC in case its needed.

Also a quick note for new flat screen TVs: Some of your older console systems may not render properly on your new TV. My PS2 displays as sepia-toned and snowy on my 55' TV (no HDMI cable for PS2). I did find an adaptor that lets me play my SNES on the TV though. Too bad not all of my PS2 games work on the PS3, including DDR. :[ So I'm keeping my old 32' CRT TV with the idea that I'll set it up as a DDR station.. somehow... maybe I'll get rid of my dining table... :P

Just need to purchase a new microphone for some VOIP goodness!
My speakers I got are from walmart and the brand is GX gaming.
The side speakers are like 3" cones and the subwoofer is like 5". Much better than the little cheap Cyber Acoustics speakers I had.
I am listening to some UKF bass culture and these speakers are awesome. Nice bass. Now when those mobs get killed by me I will be able to hear those death cries. :P
I will probably be playing music using the in game thing that lets me choose my own background music. Only problem I see with these speakers is that when I am using my Mic, you can hear whatever is playing from the speakers in the background. Might be a problem if I have my speakers turn up too much. Guess it is this way with any speakers. I do like to keep my mic open though instead of hitting a button to talk. Might have to use the button instead so everyone doesnt hear my background music.

500 Kbps is not 4 Mbps. It's actually less than 1/2 Mbps. You might want to get a tech to come out to your house. There has to be some wiring issues in your home or outside.

I run into the same problem when I am trying to listen to Ventrilo and play the game. I end up having to just turn the game volume down (in Windows' sound mixer) any time I'm in Vent. It would be great if Vent had some feature like "dim the sound on all other software any time someone is speaking, but otherwise let it go full volume" - or something.
And yet somehow if I'm playing music, even though the speakers are directly behind my mic, the music doesn't interfere with MY volume to other people in vent. It's only a matter of how well I can hear others over whatever else is coming out of my speakers. Then again maybe it's because my mic is pointing at ME (away from the speakers), instead of being on my face and pointing (partially) at the speakers.

My Turtle Beach headset has different volume controls for game and chat, plus it automatically lowers the volume of the game when voice is being transmitted. So worth the $60
I use bytes because that is what download speed is usually measured in when downloading things. 1 byte = 8 bits. So divide 4 Mb/s (megabits per second) by 8 to get 500 KB/s (kilobytes per second).

Hm, good to know! I will look into it. I hesitate to buy another head set.. I have been so happy with a desk-bound mic, so that I'm not tied to my desk, and so that I don't have to worry about a cable that's so long it gets tangled in my chair's wheels, or so short I can't move. And before anyone suggests a wireless headset, I've known two people who had nothing but issues with wireless headsets, so I am also hesitant there.
I wonder if Turtle Beach has a desk-top mic that has the same functionality. Definitely worth looking into, so thank you!

Good call. My wireless Logitech headset trolls me on a regular basis. I still haven't found one I like more, but I rarely use it as VOIP normally gives me a headache.
As for BW4 it sadly comes out during the weekend we are moving into our new house so I am going to miss out on most of it. Looking forward to the 25th tho .... I plan for lots of energy drinks, fruit and no sleep.

Aaaah. My bad. I was confused since no one uses BYTE in lieu of BIT unless they're measuring LAN transfer, trying to make their speed sound faster or are intentionally trying to trip people up.
Why not just go with 1.8GB/hour or 30MB/minute if that's your slice of pie?

Ah yes. Not because it's an IEEE and ISP standard. No no. They're using it to "trip you up".
