Because they are unoriginal, and scary races might scare away all the casual pew pew gamer they are trying to attract

I can't honestly think about a better line up. The only missing race is Genasi, which i hope will be released soon (and this is where my money will go).
Some people could also miss 1/2 orc, but it (imho) has little consistency with NW lore in general... i'm glad they're not in the game.

Why would they have 3 different elf races ? Why not have 1 elf race and 2 other totally different ones ?
These are standard races within the Forgotten Realms. More so than that, these are the most populous races within the Forgotten Realms. On that note, in my opinion the race list would be bad if it didn't contain all the races it has now. Besides, they have said time and time again, they will continue adding new Races and Classes because they are really only limited to what Races and Classes are in the Forgotten Realms as playable races, that WotC allows and wants in the game.

You missed dragonborn!
I understand they are confusing to classify as mammals or reptilia - but hey! don't hate them

Trust me, i love them. I just don't really see them as a FR race
Well they are Abeir race, so now they are FR race by default. They even got their own city Tymanthar now (think it was near Cormyr somewhere). So they are a relatively new arrival, and now a part of FR too.
A dragonborn NPC also plays a large part in NW storyline - I mean PnP storyline.

I know, i own the book ^^ This doesn't change the fact that i find them a little alien to Faerun in general. Imho, naturally. I've played a dragonborn dragonsorc for 5 months and i loved every session with the big guy.

They do need a better origin as Io is not in FR so the story does not fits that well - also considering Tiamat and Bahamut are not that powerful. But the new lore after spellplague is scattered - as if spellplague itself scattered all the info in different books and made it confusing.
I like how in 3e, buying just one book would clear all confusions - like Faiths and Pantheons.

I want Half-Dragons... I couldn't care any more or less about dragonborn specifically.

3e was better lorewise. IIRC Tiamat (and Bahamut, for what he's worth) is kinda powerful in the Chessenta- Chondath zone. Unfortunately it's a little too far.

Bahamut is stronger than Tiamut now. She is just a servant/side-mistress of Bane now.
Their lore is tied to that dragon star thingy which was described in Realm of the Elves book (the story, traitor? iirc)
Then later that star with ritual was destroyed, giving Tiamat an oppurtunity to recollect the dragons and bring in an age of dragons.
However, she failed (I think Cormyr killed her eggs - but its faint having read it long ago)
So Bahamut having allied with Torm and Illmater is part of Torm's trinity - but Tiamat is licking her wounds as she is very weak.
My favorite D&D races will never find their way in this game; Kender from Dragonlance, Mul from Darksun and Thri-Kreen. Or wait maybe Mr T wants to play a Mul Mohawk!

So we have confirmed:
Human
Half-Elf
Elf
Dwarf
Drow
Tiefling
Halfing(from video)
I'm sure I missed a few other uncommon, and possibly a common PC race, but over all, I think NW's starting (confirmed) races look pretty good.
From a personal perspective, I'd love to see Goliath, and Half-Orcs introduced, either at launch or soon thereafter. I like to play "monstrous" races. I really like Sharakim, but don't think they make any FR appearances
elves attract many different types of people. females, anime cultists, the guy who has to have that (pretty character) and more of a younger audience. they are crucial for making mmos successful so the more elves and elf races...the better the game

I just cant stand elves :P
"Just because im short and stumpy doesnt mean im not fast and nimble. my thirst for treasure keeps me...shall we say...more athletic than most dwarves" Dakoldin Quiverbeard (Dwarven Ranger)
Sit them.:p
Adding another elf race (as playable race) is cheaper than adding a dragonborn, for example. No need of new 3D model, new animations, no need to worry about gear that may need to be adjusted,... Just give them some different textures!!!

Um... you know that you are complaining that you have 2 human races instead of 2 other human races, don't you?
Lol this is true, well put.

Do not exist anymore (if Aasimar you mean)
EDIT: Infact, never existed - just a myth now, their existence.

+1 for Devas.
I guess it is not off-topic here, so I post this:-
Devas are cool!
p.s. she is just back after destroying a city of blasphemers, causalities, 9000.
Wow cool. (I never liked em')
I guess I forgot Eladrin unless they just went back to being plain old elves.
