Diplomancy: Sometimes "I hit it with my Axe" is the only Answer.
A Challenge is something interesting and awkward until you beat it... then it's called "Repetative"
Most of what I listen to is going to be either Gospel, Country, Bluegrass, Celtic, 70-90s rock and metal , or one of my 8bit versions of songs. Yah Im guessing by seeing my list the first few tell you Im a Southern guy, in the words of Bocephus "a country boy..."

Hehe...depends... just chilling; rock, country, jazz, R&B, classical...In a serious berserker barbarian mode; bag pipes-it is serious killing music, and has been known to send the Scotts into a frenzy...No Campbell's allowed.
I'm in the "depends" category too, particularly what I am actually doing in the game matters.
I do think a lot about what songs exemplify characters, sometimes it's not just lyrically, or even the genre, but just the general instrumentation. Like with my main for NWO, nothing really fits better than My Bloody Valentine. The distortion, the hazy delivery, the whole thing is shrouded in mystery, there's a strong suggestion that there's vice going on, maybe even deeper secrets than that, it has a lot of longing, but it's also quite cerebral and contemplative, it fits Balar perfectly, plus My Bloody Valentine are KICK BUTT LEGENDS...
I adore music, I obsess over it a lot, so seeing what others listen to and find inspiring is fascinating to read, so thank you all for sharing.

Lyrically, the Mountain Goats - Beautiful Gas Mask fits a little better:
