(My wife claims I have been a 'thorn-in-her-side' since I tricked her into saying "I do".)
I am a Gamer of both tabletop RPGs and computer games (on the other hand, my wife is a lover of liquor and cigarettes...but we can save that story for another time...).
I won't say my age, but I played the original D&D boxed set when I was 11 years old. My parents bought my twin brother and I this thing for our 9th birthday, thinking it was a simple board game. We hated most board games, so we stuck it in the game closet for the next 2 years. We eventually gave it a looksee...and we were hooked on tabletop RPGs ever since. I have played tons of tabletop RPGs...D&D, AD&D, Shadowrun, Cyberpunk, Starwars, DC Heroes (since 1st edition - with Mayfair's MEGS), Marvel Superhero RPG (both basic and advanced), Battletech (2nd edition), Mechwarrior, Vampire: The Maquerade, Werewolf:The Apocalypse (and other White Wolf/World of Darkness games), Heroes Unlimited, Rifts, and a few other lesser known games (like the one-shot/one-book 'Aliens RPG'...Game over, man! Game over!).
As I got older...at least in body... (*cough*)...I had less time to invest in a RP troupe...so I began spending my hobby time playing computer games. I have played Pool of Radiance, Icewind Dale II, Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II (I still think fondly of "Boo" and the chicken / apprentice - "This creature is FOWL!") and Neverwinter Nights (along with Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark)...(and seriously, who wouldn't want to sleep with Aribeth de Tylmarande?). When I became more involved in the internet (for the political commentary, of course), I began playing MMORPGs...to name a few...Eve Online, City of Heroes, WoW, Everquest 2, DDO, Champions Online, Star Trek Online, Age of Conan, DCUO, Warhammer Online, Fallen Earth, SWTOR, Guild Wars 2, RaiderZ and TERA (just started these)...and a few others.
I am anxious about Neverwinter, in particular, due to my anticipation of the player-created content via the Foundry. I also am anxious about the class selections...I hope there will be more than four or five to play soon after launch.
Anyway, I will save more of my personal story for later. I am just glad to be here and hope to see you all in-game!
Take care and be safe!

Hey thorn! Welcome to Neverwinter! I enjoyed reading your story (I started at age seven myself) and know you're not alone with may of us "classic gamers" here also!
Hii and Welcome Thorn, love all the different stuff you play. I have always stuck more to DnD for tabletops, although I did play HeroQuest for quite a while. Also love NWN and the Baulders Gates games.
You know a new World of Darkness series is coming out,I blogged about it..
You may want to read the New User FAQ if you havent already.
The Directory of Founders Guilds of Neverwinter can help with guild shopping.
Also I invite you to havea look at my guild and join if you like. I have a link in my signature.
By the Way did you ever play on Gnomeregan server on WOW? If so did you know Jindar or Sourcream?

Thanks for the welcome and the info! I will keep that in mind. As for WOW, nah, I played on the Lothar server (my brother still plays WOW). I have been keeping tabs on the World of Darkness MMO (*fingers-crossed*). I have always had a fondest for the supernatural. In fact, I think I married into it. You should see my mother-in-law...we're talking undead central...*zombie-moans in the background* "Ehhhhhh! Where's the brains!?!" (Okay, she doesn't actually say the word 'brains', but rather she substitutes it with words like 'Metamucil' and 'prune juice' and maybe more 'Metamucil'...but I truly believe those are code-words for 'brains'... I'm just sayin'.)
On another note, I really want to play a Paladin. It was my main toon for a long time on WOW/Lothar, and, it was my favorite class while playing the D&D tabletops. I am hoping a Paladin or Battle Cleric will be available soon after launch. I will give the Devoted Cleric a try, but to be honest, I like the melee-combat-and-healing-combo more than ranged healing. I never could properly level a WOW Priest...I had to continually fight the urge to throw myself into the mobs while attacking them using a 'self-bubble-and-sturdy-stick-while-wearing-tissue-paper-armor-combo'! Yes, I do realize that is not a productive way to engage targets. The guys at the cemetery knew me on a first name basis when playing my Priest toon.
Sorry if I have rambled on...My wife (the non-Gamer) is watching re-runs of Roseanne right now.

Well met and welcome to Neverwinter! I got my first Hollow World boxed set back in '91, I do believe. Began drawing caves and building lego dungeons and played a form of large paper maps with gi-joes and legos "D&D" by myself until I met some friends who played. Ah, memories!

Thanks for the welcome. My brother had a knack for painting miniatures (and still does). Back in the 80's, there were tons of mini's (back when Ral Partha made them out of metal...now many of the mini's are plastic...*grumble*) and he painted so many we had a veritable village of them. We used them with the tabletop RPGs regularly.

Typing this is a small comfort for me.
Take care and be safe in this winter weather.
