Well, as long as the shop-items are not need-to-have, I neither worry nor mind.

I expect the shop items to be cool looking, maybe one or three with nice stats (but a little weaker than ingame-aquired things) and above all utility like more bagspace, XP-boosts, guild-XP-boosts (if guilds work that way), in general boosts for everything. Also vanity pets, titles, potions for everyting, stuff like that.

After all, people who pay some of their hard-earned money SHOULD have an advantage that *can* be called unfair if you argue just right. Stripping away all emotions you'll find that none of the things I mentioned *are* unfair but immensly helpful (since a free player can aquire the useful things too ingame).

    *shrug* just my 2 gold-pieces.

I don't mean to be rude but ... you on crack? more bagspace, xp boosts for everything, potions for everything, guild xp boosts, and armor with stats....none of these things are unfair? Seriously....pff.... one of the most absurd "I'm willing to spend every penny I have to be the best" mentalities I've ever seen posted. Vanity pets and titles are the only things you mentioned that would be fair. I don't mind spending cash on "Free to Play" games as long as they don't give advantage to other players. I would rather have the game be subscription only then having a game filled with people who are used to playing pvp FTP games and the first thing they do is drop $100 so they can "own" everyone or look like a hero because they level so fast with their buddies that they hit top level and farm before anyone else because they used xp boosts, guild xp boosts, have endless pots, and so much bagspace they damn near never have to go to town to sell as others have to destroy loot or can't pick it up due to full bags or have to run to town to sell every 30 mins etc.... sorry man it's a game wrecker... sorry man EVERYTHING you mentioned is unfair in the bigger scheme of things.... seen it happen in game after game after game....

I disagree. Its only game breaking if you let it be. Who cares if someone else xp boosted their way up? how does it affect you in the slightest? its not game breaking and its not unfair. i personally only buy cosmetic upgrades (uniforms in STO or non-combat pets etc) but i don't care if someone else buys the best ships/armor/weapons. its a game. and its free. if they want to drop cash on boosts then more power to them, thats the business model. but it in no way shape or form affects your ability to enjoy the game unless you let it. it has no bearing on pve.

and before you come in with pvp blah blah blah...don't join if that stuff bothers you. its supposed to be fun. they pay for their fun. you can't fault them for that if you don't pay for it.

besides, dropping $10-20 once for it beats $15 a month for it. just sayin'.

I honestly hope that while these things and worse are happening both before AND after the PWE buyout, that they are constantly working to make improvements. One of which will hopefully be in terms of gear in the cash shop. I, like many others don't mind cosmetic stuff or small boosts to xp or things that don't really affect game play, but CO has the gear and vehicles with the best stats and most slots as something you can only get from the store, and CO does it with ships, so i'm hoping they don't pull the $25 dollar horse card that LOTRO did. Things in the other games are WAY too over priced for how little you really get out of them, minus in my opinion, the bundles.

Well, history says expect bigger inventory to be an item most likely.

As for the rest, XP and earning potential boosts on a timer are also likely, as I know pets will be there in the cosmetic level as likely will some mounts. I fear the future of lockboxes but considering the last thread I'm stopping there.

I'm sure dye packs also will be a possible buy item for that "special color" as well as the obligatory costume pieces. What I don't expect is items that will make players super powerful in PvE or PvP. A slight edge maybe, but no P2W level.

And any [censored] who brags about their stuff they bought why they are "better than you" more often than not has mommy and daddy buying it not a real job and real bills.

Defining what's 'fair' isn't static information. It's personalized.

What's more unjust? Games that reward gaming time and reward those with more hours to devote to gaming, or those working professionals and family men/women that have the option of paying money in lieu of having an equivalent amount of gaming time.

There is no balance. Points can be justified from either side of the argument. The one historical balancing factor is that even in MMO's and games that allow 'Pay to Play', the players and gamers who indulge in such offerings are generally not as talented gaming-wise as the full time or part time player that put in his/her time and dues to learn the system along the way and gain progress and material goods through attrition.

It all washes in the end. A Free to Download, Free to Play, major release will come at the production cost of millions of dollars. They have the right to recoup that money plus profit. As players, we exercise equally powerful rights, to play or not to play.

I think don't think there's a lot to worry about here ... let's just get into Beta, log in and have great times. Everything else will work itself out.

    There's my 6.5 cents. Peace.

I know Cryptic has made it clear to support the casual gamer (like delves that take only an hour to do compared to the four hour Raids,) and I'm not in any way trying to rain on TESO, but I have a feeling they are even more unfinished than Neverwinter is at this time, due to the MASSIVE undertaking it will be to make that system work in multiplayer as well as balance graphics with game speed. But hey, I could happily be wrong on the latter. More options means more options and that's not only good for the players, the competition is...yep, good for the players.

Actually none of those things you listed makes the player in any way superior to others. All of those are convenience items which Crytic has said that the CS will be cosmetic and convenience items. And the gear Rustplayer mentioned was at a lower grade level than ingame gear. You sound like those who were screaming that GW2 are P2W when the CS details was released when the reality is the opposite.

Considering how about absolutely zero details are given on ESO and that NW has very few details released one cannot judge the games and doing so is utter nonesense. But this is comparing apples to oranges, ESO is a somewhat classless based system, non-instanced world, more tactical focused combat while NW is the opposite with a highly classed based system, heavily instanced world, and less tactical but more arcadish style of combat.

You sound like you don't understand the discussion. Rustplayer said he wanted the ability to buy, "bag-space, XP-boosts, guild-XP-boosts (if guilds work that way), in general boosts for everything. Also vanity pets, titles, potions for everything, stuff like that." Then he goes to the next line where he says, "After all, people who pay some of their hard-earned money SHOULD have an advantage that *can* be called unfair if you argue just right."

So sorry what are you trying to defend here bub? Rustplayer even disagrees with your statement...he is saying if he pays real money HE SHOULD have an advantage over other players and he laid out exactly what he felt were things he KNOWS will give him an advantage over other players. It's a simple concept so many don't seem to understand. You get in game right away pop all the exp pots you can, buy armor and a ton of pots...hey he probably has buddies so thats why he was hoping for guild exp pots right? So see what he does is he pops the exp pots day one, puts on his armor with stats others will probably have to search for, all the extra bag slots he needs so he doesn't have to go to town as much, then GRIND LIKE HELL for 24 hours straight with his pals who do the same thing, asap they will start a guild first thing actually if possible so it can level too. The what happens? Well those are the guys that hit top lvl first and have plenty of time to farm whatever tier gear is needed, crafting mats, or crafting and selling to lowbies...etc etc etc... see where I'm going with how those items mostly are or CAN be used for a massive starting advantage.... people do it in every game that offers those items. So when your hitting level 40 and they are 60 and have been working for a week on getting the best gear possible...man I hope it ain't open pvp haha

Seriously man you get my drift now? If not....lol ... I know what you will be doing day 1... probably joining Rusty's guild lol

One thing NWO has going for it is the Foundry and UGC, though. It's probably the biggest turn on for many people. No matter how much official content you have, EVENTUALLY the game turns into a daily grind/farmfest of things you've already done.

Even if the gameplay/graphics/main story is inferior in NWO, dedicated fans willing to produce what is basically free DLC will keep at least a FEW people coming back for fresh adventures, new stories, and better interaction. You can bet that some UGC will be targeted toward a specific group of players, and making exclusive campaigns for your friends is something I think they had in mind when creating this MMO, too. Like playing with your group, except using your online character as a character sheet (I heard they might later incorporate real time DMing after launch if the game succeeds, but that may be for another thread.)

You can become popular in an MMO through rep grind and finishing all the quests, or you can become popular through roleplaying. It's up to each player and how they prefer their MMO, but I think that's what may eventually set NWO apart from 90% of the rest. I always tell my wife, roleplaying isn't about your level or end result, it's about the journey.

nwo is definitely grabbing more attention through foundry as of now compare to its game play with hugh lore from FR and DnD backing it up looking with more content in the future
while ESO is up there with its free rein customization similar to skyrim and lacking in rp substance put it more on par with NWO
and seeming as nwo dev say there is no alt server etc to support rp which pnp is all abt i wonder how it will appeal to pnp crowdin the long run?

All Cryptic games run on one sever, I can't speak for CO, but I can say there is a healthy thriving RP crowd in STO. The pnp players are not going to get a digital pnp world out of this game and so many of them looking for that are going to be unhappy. Those who come in looking to play a fun game on the other hand will likely be satisfied.

And I can assure you RP is very much alive and well in CO, but the best of it is tucked away in private spaces or away from the main hubs. Avoiding the RP-griefer crowd, you know.

We must remember that both CO and STO were not designed from the ground up to be F2P. A fundamental flaw in the way the F2P had to be implemented. Taking all the mistakes and feedback from those two games hopefully (*fingers crossed*) they have learned from these and designed Neverwinter around these aspects. Kind of like a business occupying a site that was not built for it. A bakery occupying a building that was once a bank. Sure they can use the vault as a freezer/refrigerator, but everything just doesn't fit quite right.

As for the negative stigma, I believe that the love of Neverwinter will counterbalance the stigma. While people will give it a chance, they may be more likely to run if it is not delivered well. So there is a lot of pressure on the part of Cryptic to deliver a quality game that is truly developed using player feedback. I expect that it will be much more of a skeleton that will be filled in later with additional content as guided by the community. In this way it will be a round about sandbox. Not a true sandbox like EVE, but more of a community sandbox filled and shaped by feedback. I just hope that some of the minorities have some eloquent members as I have found that the fringe ideas, once implemented, have been my favorite.

Not to be a bubble buster but they said the same thing about D3 and a whole slew of games through the years...I find reviews to be absurdly subjective and often I think we get this because if these "reviewers" slammed every game that deserved it they would soon be out of business....no free stuff etc...hype for reviewers = money....biased...can't trust them. Seriously man you know better than that... how many games were THE HOT TITLE!!! Then promptly bombed big time.

The game isn't even finished yet I don't know how people can rate an unfinished game with such praise from what a video? really? Also for example

Translated from Spanish to English http://www.hardgame2.com/pc/articulo-6433videojuegos-pc-ordenador-los-mejores-e3-2012-especial.html&page=4
"Experience more addictive PC - Neverwinter (Cryptic Studios / Perfect World)

Before entering his presentation, had some misgivings about the long development that are having this Neverwinter, mostly due to the economic problems that led Atari to sell Cryptic Studios (and the entire project) to the Chinese giant Perfect World. But it was throw out and get stuck irretrievably. To give you a little idea, say it would be a sort of Diablo but controlled action game (even with the system targeted TERA), with a campaign story that progresses and all accompanied others, to which must be added the possibility to recruit NPCs and even a PvP mode. Pintaza and, incidentally, will be Free-to-Play."
No offense but I'd hardly call that a rave review... and how does that qualify NW as being (as this web site advertises it) "An International Hit." That statement is absurd hype and nothing else.
What part of the game were they playing on or before the publishing date of 06.19.2012? Sorry nothing but hype imo. The real reviews come out a month or so after release maybe during final beta...I've been in a lot of final betas through the years.... know how many have changed even from that point to release? I've played games that rocked in final and sucked at release. Just sayin....I think it's unfair to post these sort of reviews as a way to show how great a game is GOING to be....it's silly talk imo. =)

While I don't disagree, it is also popular since STO launch, for critics to hate every move Cryptic makes. So I take the praise the NW gets to at least mean that many critics don't want to bash the game and end up wrong. Of course in doing so they've swung the pendulum to the opposite side of the spectrum. Theirs is not a career of moderation.

I'm not going to quote myself here but there is too much hype on this forum. Wait for beta and if the cryptic really do great job then sing, dance do anything you want but now it's too early to call it good game.

Keep in mind that previews in general cover the core concepts of the game. I don't think they are meant to say how good the game is or will be, they are just to convey to the reader what you can expect in terms of mechanics, story etc when you play the game and of course stuff covered in a preview are never written in stone so I know when I personally read them I focus on the core ideas for the game and not specific mechanics because usually the core ideas of a project don't generally change but individual mechanics can.

With that said, Neverwinter's core ideas of D&D universe, D&D classes, action combat and UGC all excite me. How fun the game will be will always be a mystery until it's released.

Believe it or not I don't ever want to do another beta again lol... I swear every beta I have ever been in rocked through final beta... then boom major changes in the first month that made me hate the game lol... I told a friend once, and I meant it, I never wanted to play another game until it had been out for at least 6 months just so I wouldn't be mad about changes to the game....I know I could never resist playing a beta on a game I really wanted to play but I'm sort of glad I never got a key for this one yet....even debating on if I should wait for a month after release to play....don't think I could hold out longer than that. :D

Hey, if you wish to avoid disappointment by burying your head in the sand from any opportunities before a set time, that's your choice to make. Just don't complain you wish something could have been done earlier about a game option that only could be done at a beta or early release level.

My experience with PWE betas thus far as that they are not provided for player input or bugfixes, it's just a market test to see how much money the cash shop will be drawing in.
If I had to guess, I would say that they are polishing Alpha as much as possible right now and thus delaying Beta, because Cryptic knows that PWE will rush them out of closed and open beta without the ability to make any relevant changes or fixes to the game based on player input.
So right now, yeah, I'm pretty skeptical about it. Zellex might have a point but I'm just too pumped to stay out of Beta. But suggesting that player input can actually make a difference in a PWE beta... well, in my experience, that's just asking for disappointment.

IF I may add this isn't just a PWE issue, I don't think any major company really listens to player input. I think the only company that has really listened to it's player base is Trion.

In my experience betas is not to change things to make players happy but rather to have players test what the companies decide should be and find the bugs and any player beneficial exploits so they can plug those up...

I endeavor to remain positive but deep down I know we are really just blowing smoke.....lol

I've had very positive experiences with Trion, but also with Cryptic when I was beta testing (and then a subscriber for) City of Heroes (yep, that was a long time ago).
The Dev team for COH was pretty responsive, beta was for bug testing (not market testing), and beta testers were rewarded aptly.
Since then obviously Cryptic is now being published by PWE, and I didn't beta test any of Cryptic's newest games, but I HAVE tested some of PWE's newest games... much to my dismay.
So I guess in short I have faith in Cryptic but I'm pretty pessimistic about PWE.
It would help a lot if the devs would show up here every once in a while... as it is we're gleaming info from twitter feeds and chinese and french translations.
The communication has been pretty lackluster... which is usually a terrible sign.

My biggest concern probably comes from the popular-on-the-forums fact that there isn't enough information going around about the game. I've mentioned NWO to all my RPG friends, and not a single one has been following the game (if there was anything to follow, that is).

Marketing and hype are extremely important to building a good following later, and at this late in the stage of development, Cryptic should be doing a little more so that the name is at least known. There are lots of games that deserve recognition (or at least a play through) but just weren't advertised well enough. On the other hand, take something like the WiiU. Almost nothing, including the system specs, were known about it and the day 1 launch titles were few, but someone in marketing was sure doing their job, as lines formed for hours to attempt to get the brand new system that sold out before it was ever released.

I want to have lots of people playing and creating and stuff for NWO, but knowing is half the battle, right?
I'm not asking for just new info and updates, but I want to know that other people are looking forward to the game, too.
