Just a thought but, the F2P model only works if people buy stuff. I was wondering what is your predicted out of pocket monthly budget for a F2P game?
I pay $ 9.99 a month for DDO and probably buy $ 20.00 every 3 months in TP, and then ask for gift cards.
I am thinking of budgeting around $ 10.00 to $ 15.00 a month for this.
Depends, I think the main strength of f2p is that you don't need a monthly budget. For example one month my wife and I can put 40 bucks into a game but then not spend for 2 months.
Tbh I don't put games in my budget. What I do is sometimes treat my wife and I when we can afford to instead. If I was to have to put monthly budget for the game of say 10 or 15 bucks I would rather it was p2p and NOT have a cash shop.
I'm a budget type person myself, even with f2p games I like to have an idea of how much I'll be spending so I usually figure $50 every 2-3 months.

The reason why I rarely play Subscription games anymore is because I cannot commit to a recurring subscription. As such, I won't be putting NWO in any budget. It will get money from me when I can, if I can, and when family gifts me PWE game cards. The only times I play subscription games anymore is when someone buys me a game time card out of the blue or for a gift like birthday or yule or something.

I'd honestly rather pay for a 15 dollar subscription fee for an MMO that puts everybody playing the game on the same field with no advantages over one another than play a free to grind / pay to win MMO.
Well it depends. Back in '09 when LoL started, I spent 40$ on the bundle for all the original classes. After that I bought the new characters as they came out at about 10$ a month and they were new and interesting every time. Now, they pump out a toon every other week and put less effort into creativity and more time into copying other toons into the 'new' one. As long as Cryptic/PWE bring out usefull/interesting items like mounts and RP items, I"ll spend 10-30 dollars a month on it. Not to say I'll spend money EVERY month, but if I've got the money and find something interesting in the shop, I'll be spending on it.
If I'm playing a game heavy duty I will usually buy $40 - $50 in game cash every 4 - 6 months. It just depends. I try and wait to the cash on a deal. Sometimes my stores run deals on cash cards, or sometimes the publisher runs bonus cash deals.
Depends on whether I am making money and how much you really have to spend to be successful. I won't lie, if I was planning to spend money I would just play a p2p game (I am currently playing wow). I don't know I have to play the game first.
I have almost 3,000 wins in League of Legends over the course of about 2 years (Whenever season 1 started) and I have spent a total of 20$ for skins, 4 of which are for Veigar.
I don't spend money on free to play games but thats just me.
I think it really depends on the FTP model they use as there are many out there. I am currently playing GW2 which after purchase is F2P, and as of now I have 2 lvl 80 (max) with awesome gear and have yet to spend a dollar since launch because there has been no reason. However If NWO does infact use a model that limits things based on what you do or dont purchase I would go no more than $10 or $15 a month unless it was a major expansion ofcourse.

I been playing free games for 5 years now and i havent spent a single cent on them, i like to think of myself as providing some content for those that do pay, i get to join your parties and try to make them fun, i help people that need it in general chat and stuff like that

I'll surely pay something here and there (because i know myself). I don't see me paying a lot of money, but i'll surely buy something if the game is worth.
Dilige, et quod vis fac (Love, and do what you will)
I will mostly be working on foundry so I will be buying slots once I run out of them. Also costumes to dress my npc in foundry. As I won't be playing the game much, I won't probably be able to unlock anything.

I'll keep you company Jade. And I'll see when I can drag him into playing too Gee is it wrong that I'm happy you were sad to see that most excellent animation?
I'm honestly not sure myself. I don't like paying monthly because it's just too expensive, but i usually do the lifetime if i can. The problem there is Cryptic has had issues with delivering all it promises lifers, and the recent cash grabs over content really have me worried about the state of development. I don't mind buying things in the store, but $5 for a costume or $15-$25 is WAY too much for an ingame item, account wide or not.

Fair points made, but I'm more interested ATM where that avatar icon is from? I know I'll facepalm when I am told its origins I'm forgetting right at this moment...
Basically if you are spending more than 9.99 (or whatever the standard monthly fee is) then FTP is not FTP and you are better doing a monthly subscription. The way I see it I don't wont to spend more than a monthly subscription for a FTP game. Mind with a cash shop I would say its not really a free to play game, it is play subscription free, but pay for stuff if you want. I like that better than pure subscription due to sometime just not having time to play every evening /weekend etc, which as subscription tends to make you want/need to.
This said I think what would be nice is a hybrid systems, where if you spend what would be a monthly fee (9.99-14.99) then you get that month like a subscriber plus the stuff you bought. this would assume though that prices on the shop are not 25.00 for a single item, nothing on the shop should cost more than a monthly sub. So i could see someone maybe only wanting a few items/bits from shop per month and spending maybe 2.00. Then another wanting slightly more but still under normal monthly of 5.00, but if you get to the 9.99 or so then you get the game as a subscriber for that month (plus what you bought for life). Possible this would be not if you buy zen, but when you spend it.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] I am not evil, I am just cursed.
FPS games aint usually worth it, APB is only F2P I pay money, if the game is something I really like, easily 20-30 a month. Its kinda odd we got these great games like Rift, TSW or Elder Scroll Online, so cheap but most F2P games even ask more.
Well, I pay as much as is necessairy to have a blast. Granted, I am one of those whose monthly budget for F2P games balances those of several players who do not choose to invest a dime but the F2P model is successful because of people like me.
How much exactly I spend monthly cannot be said - I always buy cash-currency in the biggest possible chunk and then spend that ingame currency as my mood dictates. Sometimes such a chunk suffices for months, sometimes I have to buy another in the same month. But it can be said that the first days / weeks after release are always the most expensive for me.
At the end of the day how much I spend is irrelevant to me - as long as I have fun playing the game (and the bank does not send some people with big, blunt instruments to "talk" to me at the end of the month).

Like you, I'd just rather pay a subscription fee, but we will see how things work out. I don't spend a lot of money in cash shops, so it will really just depend on what is offered and if I need/want it.

I like the idea of purchasing content packs, but not costumes and funny hats, those should be free. I suppose an extremely funny hat could be charged for but I would really have to think about the consequences of the my purchase.
One issue that might occur is if UGC is better than DGC, All of my monies will go to users instead of devs...

With a name like Trollolollol, I'm not even sure I should respond to this. But F2P games don't ask for anything. They give you the option to spend money. As you said Rift, TSW, and ESO are/could be great, but they demand you give them money every month. This isn't a choice. NWO gives you a choice, "Hey spend money on pointless vanity items!" and if you REALLY want those items, you can take em.
Personally, I wouldn't bother. Ideally the devs keep with the free classes/races that they said earlier, but who knows? Low costs for them could be okay, but otherwise 10-30 every few months should be a good amount for anyone to manage. Of course, you don't have to spend either. That's why it's F2P! :-D
And as a side note, can you put money into UGC? I don't really understand that comment, but if it's good, HEY, here's 5 bucks.
That would really give good incentive to create the best freaking dungeons/quests you can as a user. Just use the donations to pay for any cash shop purchases, including races/classes/vanity (whichever might be applicable).

There is no point putting a specific budget for a f2p game, and compairing it with subscriptions. That's not how f2p works.
You have money available, you see something you feel is worth buying for the price it's up for, you buy it. Simple as that. There's no point compairing how pricey a f2p is with how pricey a p2p is, because you're not paying for the same thing. In p2p games, you're paying for the game. In f2p, the game itself is free, and you're paying for items or services within it. You can't compaire the price of 2 months of gameplay with the price of 3 virtual costumes, a 10% exp boost and 5 upgrade charms - they're completely different concepts.
I have spent about 700 euros total on FW and 500 total on LoL. On average, I spend 50 euros/month on f2p games. And they're always money well spent.

I play DDO and EQ2 and Im in between P2P and F2P. I throw down $ when I have it to spare. I prefer buying the content over renting it. I spend the same amount but I dont have to budget a subscription. I'm hoping there will be something of this nature in NwN as well.
