It's Halloween, and what better way to celebrate than to show off the haunted Blackdagger Ruins at the Paris Games Week convention?
Perfect World Europe is at Paris Games Week to demo Neverwinter, and they'll be showing European players the Blackdagger Ruins adventure zone. If you're at the event, drop by and take the fight to the minions of Blackdagger.
Giving us closed beta access would be a better way to spend Halloween.
Giggidy.
I'm glad they didn't ON Halloween. I"d be mad if they did and had no Halloween content (I know, ridiculous). That'd be like opening on Christmas and not giving anything for free even if it's temporary.

If the game holds true to Forgotten Realm's based festivals, there won't be a Halloween-type celebration anyway. The Feast of the Moon, the closest holiday in the Realms to Halloween/Samhain, doesn't happen until Uktar (November) 30th and ends on Nightal (December) 1st.
Personally, I hope to never see any "Real World" holidays celebrated in Neverwinter. Please keep them all true to Realms' lore.
Just to be clear however, there was a time back after before the Cataclysms when the veil between worlds was considered thin and was celebrated as a type of "Pagan Samhain." This was Uktar 7th. Because the planes have been destroyed, reformed, or otherwise modified due to the alignments of Abeir and Toril and the Spellplague that ensued from Mystra's assassination however, the Gods now reside in the Astral Sea.
Since, there has not been another mention of Uktar 7th having any significance anymore as that "thin veil" would be no more, since the plane it once was relevant to no longer exists as it once did.
I just posted this, which should help people get familar with the Harptos Calendar and Festivals in the Realms.
Don't care what holiday it is, I just want it to be festive and fun. I love parties!

i'm french so i had the occasion to play the game tuesday and i love the dynamic battle and the design of this game (not the graphics but the general design. It bring me back to the good old rpg with the forgotten realms license) . I probably play this game when he will come out (soon i hope) and i have high hope on the forge system
I will be there in 3 weeks! Unfortunately not in time for the game convention. Any recommendations on places to visit in Paris other than the typical touristy things? The E-Tower, the Arch, the Lourve...

3 weeks is a long time. One week is usually enough to go almost everywhere - but it depends what kind of places you want to go and with whom.
There are guided tours of paris where they tell you about its history and current events. Its a nice walk and all to familiarize yourself - the guides are usually students studying culture or literature so it is very informative.
Louvre is good but if you are seeing its famous Mona Lisa for first time, you will be dissappointed - its too overhyped. But rest of the things there are all cool - also many other places nearby and the arc.
Tower should be climbed at evening so you start in daylight and reach at top in night. Then you can see the city just lighting up.
Being of divine class, I would recommend you to see the place where crusaders were hanged and they cursed the king. And also about macabre story of the one who assassinated the loved king (he was made jedi knight two years or so before).
But whatever you do, don't miss those gardens in third circle and the streets of paris. Most loving things there are those ordinary things.
EDIT: If you don't know french, dont ever foget your gps or let your battery be drained. Nobody speaks english there
EDIT: Forgot chateau for party and stuff at night. And notre dame cathedral.

well i'm french so i don't visit the touristic site of my own country very often (i have so much more important stuff to do like play video games) but if i can make a suggestion (at least a morbid one ) it's to visit the catacombs of paris (but don't bring your child unless you hate him) it's cool (sort of ^^) place
and yes be carefull we french are **** if you can't speak our language (barbarian ><)
We will be with a tour group most of the time there, but will have 1 extra day to explore by ourselves. Thanks for the tips!

... for reference, to set expectations for the future: I would be surprised if there weren't Halloween or Christmas types of events. Maybe not anything huge, but this is a business, and you'll get more new players by being able to publicize a Halloween event on Oct 31 than a Forgotten Realms feast no one's heard of that's nowhere near a major holiday.
That being said, normal disclaimer, I don't know what the devs' thoughts are, this is just my perspective as a marketing guy.

There! The marketing man said it! If he is right, we are going to be hunting giant monster turkeys in a few weeks or giant frosted snowmen in a few weeks after that!

If the beta is delayed beyond December, can we have delayed holiday monsters then?

I really hope not. :-(
I personally think it would be a better marketing decision if NWO were to set the precedence here and be one of the first Fantasy MMOs based off an IP to not follow this suit and stick to Canon. I'd bet you gain a lot of favor from the die-hard fans of D&D for not letting this type of Real World Marketing define content.
I know I'd much rather love to see Realms festivals celebrated and publicized as marketing tactics than continue down the same thing that all other MMOs do. Let's have NWO stand apart and be the better MMO! It will horribly break immersion for me to see real world holidays celebrated in a world that isn't supposed to have them.
Hopefully WotC won't let such a deviation. I can hope!
I guess my deep dedication and fan-boyism of the Realms is shining through here. I want the Realms to stay Forgotten Realms and not be Abeir-Earth-Toril.
I'll name by first second-born male child Cryptic or Turtle for ya if you can make this happen! ;-) (First born male is already going to be Elminster and first born girl will be Mystryl, sorry!)
It is blashphemy for us Selunites to follow solar calendar. As long as christmas and halloween are decided by lunar calendar it may be ok.
Also we have our "clandestine" rituals to attend to every shieldsmeet and one a year every fullmoon. How do you expect a Selunite to have any energy for celebrities like christmas or hello-ween if it falls on new moon? We would be too busy running away from Sharite monks sent to assassinate us...

just from my experience with their other games, yes there will be special event for Xmas, Halloween or 1 year anniversary etc but they are only going to be on the real world side...as far as i know they don t change anything in the game to make it more xmas or haloween like when they are running special events. it s just marketing... they haven t thrown any spacial events for the federation birthdate , or the khitmorer accords in STO for example.

yep sorry for the mistake i did earlier . It was of course the foundry system (i think forge is the french word that most of the site use for the creation system)
Well for the events in-game it's not too bad too coordinate the real time events with events from the D&D system (like i don't know but the celebration of the dead or of cyric god of death & murder (less cute than hallowen, right.) and with the FOUNDRY *touss* system it will be easy to make events that are not totally out of the lore (make a contest with a map on a specific theme, let the devellopers make special map etc...) .
but i agree i will be a bit sad to see christmas trees in the tavern
(sorry for my grammatical mistake in advance, but i'm french and lazy )

You corrected them here, therefore ruining the lazy French stereotype. Now your French brethren are confused whether to be angry at you for being stereotypical or angry at you breaking with tradition. If only the conflict was a beautiful person, they we could all just go Oooh la la and be done with it

Forge system? Where did that old phrase...
Ahh, the translation of it saying its meaning from French to English...lexical similarity (similarite' lexicale) I think. You mean the Foundry system? (syste'me de Fonderie?)
