Over a few year played DDO off n on n then finally got fed up with the game, played on Ghalla.
Sadly there have been absolutely no good D&D game for a decade or 2 now. Last was NWN and depending on who you ask NWN2. I have high hopes for Neverwinter and hope for the best.
I played on Mabar then merged to Argo now I just up and switched servers a year back to gallanda to give myself a challenge. Still play ddo but looking forward to seeing cryptics take on dnd mmo style. Not sure I like what I see so far. At least with DDO you had the ability to multiclass and a wide selection of classes and races. I do not really see that here. What I consider a major part of classic D&D, flexibility and player customization, is lost in Neverwinter. Still crossing my fingers that it will be good.
I played on Gallanda for more than four years. Love the game, but I got tired of all the politics involved in the guilds I was a member of. Too much bickering made me dread logging on so I am f2p on ddo now and do not plan to go back.
I am interested in seeing what might become of this game. Might even join a casual guild. If it ever gets released.
I am on sarlona my self have been playing sense launch in 06 i am now a f2p myself and ddo is becoming such a grind feast they still have yet to add druids or anything else I think they are much less of D&D then when they launch if neverwinter is D&D im here say bye bye ddo
i would have to say i agree with the lack of classes. no druids is sad, especially when they came out with the artificer. i think that they were trying to either gather more "steam punk" loyalty with that one, or going in a more "ebberon" direction. i will check out Neverwinter for sure and more than likely move over. i am on the Thelanis server with a solid group of people who i may talk into moving over as a lot of them stemmed from table top gaming.
I was on Ghallanda for nearly four years as well. What toons did you play? I had Scrimp, Pyroclasm, Hellbilly, Xplosive, Xyloid... many many others. Was hoping to see some of my old guildies around from Ghallanda Rerolled or Ka-Tet
Good to see the DDO peeps emerging from the woodwork...
I'm curious how much Neverwinter has permeated into
the DDO community.
There are alot of us that are willing to give Neverwinter a shot, not because we are tired of DDO (I'm still a very active player on Ghallanda) but because Turbines handling of the game is, at best, a cluster ****.
That being said, Neverwinter will be a side project until I see what it turns out to be. I am excpetionally skeptical of anything that Atari has its hands in and havent been impressed with any of Cryptics MMO's so we aill see.
I'm a former Thelanis server player who tried to role play (let's just say I was a warforged that was a very specific shade of blue among other characters,) before drama made me leave when it was no longer fun. While I considered returning, I realized that:
1) I wanted 4th edition rules now after playing tabletop and convention/game day 4th edition for years.
2) The overhead time needed for the DDO crafting and the (individual reset or) D&D Reincarnation was too much an investment.
(And last but not least: )
3) No druids. I was patient with the monks but I just about had it when they shoved in favored souls and artificers and no freakin' druids! Look, forget the animal companions, just add some nature spells and a summon wolf and I would have accepted it as allowable temporarily...three years ago. Now, it's just too late.

Now that Atari is gone and Perfect World is running the show, i think this will be god for Neverwinter, but unfortunately the wait is very long and i´m getting anxious for the release.:(
Toon's on every sever TOD toons on 4 been playing 5.5 yrs full time no breaks still love the game, with that said im getting tierd now lol, looking forward too neverwinter!!
Just curious if any ex-DDO players have taken an interest in Neverwinter.
Let me know.

i used to play DDO but then i started the board game and lost touch with it, plus after reading ra slavatores gautlygrym and the rest of the drizzt series im really excited for neverwinter.:D

Ex-Argonessen and Ex-Orien here. Played Orien for a few months when it first launched, but still mostly played on Argonessen. I quit back in the beginning of 2011 since I had no real desire to play DDO anymore as it had lost its appeal. Having eight plat-capped characters and several TR's can make anyone get bored with it. Major lack of content that was challenging and no real penalty for dying. Sure, you could play a PD guild, but that's just boring and a waste of time in the long run. Not really achieving much beyond passing the time.
If you wanna make an ex-DDO'er guild let me know I'll join.
Sure thing. I have a few buddies who I've mentioned NWOnline to, and everything I've heard has been positive feedback so eventually we'll want to have a "go-to" guild where we can meetup, and it would be fun to have some other D&D fans to be able to group with.
Although if this game has shards, I'm guessing most people will follow the rule of "A" for server population. It really depends on how the game plays, but if we do make an ExDDO guild we'd probably want to pick PVP or PVE and Red/White axis if PVP, or establish meeting/raid times if PVE.
Hi, I'm new to this forum, just joined in december and this is actually my first post. I' ma DDO player, been in the Khyber server for 2 years now and still like the game (although sometimes I feel like the game itself hates me making me run a chain so many times to get the item that I want so badly...).:) So if there ex-ddo guild will be made, I'd sign up for it.
This is DnD. A very easy fact
for some to overlook.
This sets it apart from any other
MMO or RPG or fantasy game in
existence.
It's not just another MMO trying
to be original or unique.
I have made an assumption,
based upon my own bias. And I
will use my DDO exposure as my
backbone.
Here it is: I have to assume that
there are DDO players that want
more of the deep DnD experience.
And Neverwinter is the most recent
solution.
It gives hope to us, the DnD adherents.
I quit DDO for my own reasons, and my bias
leads me to believe that there are other DDO
players out there that feel the same way.
For those coming over from DDO NOT looking
for the deep DnD experience... I'd have to ask why they
would even bother.
Gary Gygax used the imagination for the template of DnD. The level
of success for a company
(such as Cryptic) to use a computer game
to tap into the imagination of the DnD experience
will REQUIRE qualitative data from ex players from
games such as DDO (especially since it uses the
term DnD).
The combination of community (Neverwinter and overall
DnD) and developers of Neverwinter
may actually have the capacity to pull off
a successful DnD experience through the computer-game
medium.
Those of us from DDO, that are deep DnD followers,
are aware of past mistakes
from past generations of computer games
using the DnD brand.
We are qualified to make recommendations
and criticisms that will compare and contrast
the DnD experience to our previous DnD engagements
as it is delivered through the Nevewinter medium computer game.
Note:
I refer to DDO only because it uses
the brand 'Dungeons and Dragons'. This is why
I have not said a word about other MMO's.
Well, I think that the deep DnD experience concept may vary for each player , everyone has different needs and desires. As for me, my deep DnD experience would consist on acutally playing PnP or something similar to it. I've been into Dungeons and dragons for 4 and half years now (probably many of you have starting playing it even before I was born, but I may be wrong::D ) and never had the chance to play PnP, except for once where it was just me and my brother playing, but let's say that in a situation which there's a DM who has only one player, it isn' t much fun, since there's no chance of roleplaying your character while interacting with companions and many options that are better fit for a larger party. I turned to DDO to see if I could get a taste of real or somewhat real-ish DnD, but since I started playing I had to realize I wasn't going to, although I enjoy playing it like I would with every other game. So yes, I do hope that Neverwinter will finally give me the chance get to feel DnD. Writing this cuz wasn't sure if your last post was meant to reply to me or to be a general thought on the subject, but since I don' t always understand the purpose of something from the start, I just wanted to be clear
Howdy guys Foxom/Hoarforged/Hoarhouse/Eyetunes/Focksom from Thelanis. I'm still very active in ddo and a member of Legion. I'm looking forward to a new dnd game with a touch of different rules. Not sure if I'll ever quit ddo but If this turns out to be as awesome as I've heard I just might.

Well the guild startup I was repling to stopped at my post for over a week now, so gues it couldn't hurt to say hi here also. I played mainly on Thelanis and sometimes Sarlona. I left amid drama on about mid 2009. While I'm holding off on character specifics, let's just say I was a very specific type of blue warforged wizard, among other characters.

So far it's a starting platform for
peeps from the DDO community
looking for something more...

If a guild grows out of this... cool.
I popped in to take a peek as a Premium or ex P2P non VIP. Found the content for me as a L16/17 borderline character nonexistant without purchase and spent my TP to get my WF back which was my main. Unless I see options, there aren't any modules I can play to advance without buying which is kinda non "unlimited playing" options for high-levels anyway. I asked for advice on their forums to be fair, but looks like I'll not be sticking around if I have to pay to just play anyway (which equals either my paying now about $15 for now or a month's P2P/VIP the other way, (since I spent $8 already just to get the balance of TP to unlock the WF race to play my main before seeing what wasn't availabvle afterwards.)
So be it. Microtransactions become more like monthly.
