This character bio made a few romantics mad :)

After losing both her parents to a devastating plague as a child, Mai drew close to her older brother as the two struggled to find a way to survive. Life was harsh, and it became an unbearable nightmare when she awoke one day to find her own brother had betrayed her, selling her into slavery while she slept.

As she grew, she patiently waited for the opportunity to free herself. When it came, she wasted no time in making her escape, only to find herself alone and helpless, on the run from her would-be captors. The day they caught up to her, her heart sunk. She was trapped between continued slavery and what was certain to be a ghastly punishment, or the freedom and peace of the certain death that lie just beneath the surface of the raging river at her back.

Before she could hurl herself into the torrent, a figure stepped between her and her pursuers.

She never saw it happen, it was all over so quickly...silently. But when the attacker turned and looked at her, her fear abated with the kindness she saw in the eyes of the monk standing before her. Though she never saw him again, she never forgot his name...

Fargo...

From that day forward, she vowed she would never again be helpless fodder for evil, She would become like her savior...she would become justice...she would avenge the weak and helpless. And she promised herself that the first to feel the sting of her vengeance would be her own brother. Then...perhaps then her heart could find some peace. Perhaps then she could find the one who had saved her so long ago and, somehow...someday...repay his kindness.

*** Explanation ***

It's a bit embarassing to post such a corny bio, but the results are a little funny. I kinda threw that back story together when I made the character. She and the Monk character referenced in it were on the same account. As a result they could NEVER meet in-game. A few of the more romantic players on the server at the time got a little mad at me because these two would never be able to meet in-game. :o Somehow...pointing out that this was an action server and not an RP server did not satisfy their wish to see these two have a romantic resolution to their shared history.

Now I am going to go hide for a few weeks until this post is forgotten...or at least so buried that I can deny ever writing it with some degree of believability. >.>

Do not ever be ashamed or embarrassed of your creativity! Always be proud of your work for it is a part of you! If a person does not appreciate your art, that is THEIR problem. Never douse your flame based on other peoples insecurities ;)

I agree with the prince of France of America. Ensuring that these two should never meet is a great idea. It's like when a tv show maintains romantic tension for years; everyone watches to see if it ever happens, knowing all the while that if it does, the show's over. It would be just as satisfying to see her obtain a lifedraining +5 weapon of wounding and watch her whup the brother with it.

I didn't intend for so many w's to occur in that last sentence.

    Hail and well met,

I think that is an beautiful backstory. I may even steal bits and pieces of it if you don't mind.

    Safe travels,

Ladyhawke! I didn't realize it at the time, but this is totally Ladyhawke!

Two months. Two months, and Tsundere's comment, it took me to make that link.

    Sort of...

Ladyhawke was a great story because the curse kept them seperated. In this back story though it is only time and the distance they have each traveled in the world that kept them apart...

Well, that and the technical limitation of not being able to play 2 characters at the same time from the same account ;)

Just making a note here, not knocking it.

You've scored a 14 on the Mary Sue meter. That's on the high side of acceptable/borderline Mary Sue. You should probably consider cutting back on the cliches/tone down the melodrama.

On the positive side, you have made a typical background for a fantasy novel/setting. Good job!

Not really looking for feedback from Mary Sue. She's overrated.

PEGI Sue on the other hand is awesome! :D

Whether or not an evil bio is a thing of beauty depends on how evil the reader is. ;)

Yes. Caring person. We're ALL just lovely, caring persons . . .

WHAT acidic battleaxe of wounding? I know not of what you speak.

Heheh. We're all aware that you're just playing to the role. There's no need to point it out to us. If you weren't, you wouldn't be RPing in the forum of a Dungeons & Dragon product now, would you? No, you'd be RPing over in a Myspace D&D group then or something.

Also, I have never gotten 100,000 kills and the "of the Alliance" title in World of Warcraft. I have no screenshots to that effect. I am not alarmingly proud of the accomplishment, for an RPer.

Heh, you're in the same age category I am. We had this discussion on Star Trek Online, where I firmly established that my first game system is older than most of the players there.

    . . . Ahem.

Only for over 30 you two?

    Kids ;)

Most of the 70's I'd rather forget but not the red box and other D&D!

Hey, hey now, gramps! The 70's were a horrible, frightening time for almost everyone!

I've seen the dancing videos on Youtube, and you can't tell me those people weren't stoned half to death.

I'm only counting the video gaming years. ;)

But yeah, when it comes to board or PnP games, those were awesome too. They are the original 'get your friends and family together' catalyst behind so many fond memories. :)

As for first game systems, we had whatever it was that played the original PONG on your TV in black & white. Couple Commodore 64's too.

AND I actually have my 3rd hand-built PC behind me right now. (1=66/75MHz, 2=233MHz)

This thing is a 500MHz dual VooDoo2 in REAL SLI config...you know...the one with the connector cable you can make from a spare floppy drive cable?

Got a bunch of old Glide stuff on it too like the original Unreal, Descent 1 and 2 with a 3dfx/OpenGL patch, and Mechwarrior 2 3dfx...all on windows 98...which was always surprisingly stable for me. That old dinosaur still works without a hitch. Aw man it really takes me back to fire it up now and then. :)

To see modern game engines/systems/servers/worlds is also pretty impressive. But There was something more immessive about gaming when you had to use some of your imagination, like reading a good novel you just can't put down.

Maybe that's why we like a good back-story so much?

    Well said.

*Raises Mountain Dew* To Zork, Sierra's King's Quest, and many of the older text Games with limited graphics at best, which still inspired the imagination, not spending $400 for a faster framerate for death-match frag rate! May we be inspired by vocabulary before resolution!"

Had Pong. Had Atari 2600. Hit troll with sword a few times.

Athlon 1.6 Ghz, Athlon 2.8 Ghz, Core2duo 2.33 Ghz. All personally customized.

Man, I miss Mech 2: Mercenaries. I'm very interested in seeing what they do with the new online game.

Not to sound too young an all, but QFT. I wish I could pick you up and throw you at an acquaintance or two who think graphics more than a year old makes a game automatically bad. Guess it's their loss, missing out on classics whose sequels will forever be beyond them.
