NEW LOCKBOX System Who Likes it?

themoorethemoore Member Posts: 69 Arc User
I have many members complaining on the single drop and useless drop a bunch of companion and mounts that have now near to zero value in the auction house. Seems that is only thing these lockboxes are good for.

The fact that the upgrade tokens now are not in bags and go straight to your inventory, they are not tradable or sellable AND IS A HUGE LOSS.
We normalkly organiza Alliance events with prizes and give these tokens away but it will not be possible moving forward if this system remains in place.
For those that do not need them because they have both bolsters to 100% and are gathering over 2.000 tokens of both type it is USELESS.

The Fasct that it shows at milestone 50 and 100 a Mythical item, when it is only a chance of, is very missleading.

Many of us that used to spend money and buy zen for the bulk of key HAVE NO MORE INTENTION of doing so, because USELESS AND WORTHLESS.
It is a way higher chance of getting something of low value 100-1000AD then of getting something good.

I don't like lockbox in general. I did not open old lockbox much although I have every lockbox (except Astral) since mod 3. I did not like old lockbox content because it did not have what I want, no guarantee (lead to frustration) + other reasons. I also do not open lockbox for selling stuff purpose which gives me more work and headache.

However, I do open the Dragonslayer's lockbox recently because it has what I want and there is a guarantee when you open 250.

For mile stone 50, 100, the text is pretty clear. I personally don't see it misleading. I also happened to sell stronghold vouchers with the price much higher than I expected. May be because it happened to be 2xguild mark.

So, do I like the new lockbox system? Hard to say I 'like' it because I already said I don't like lockbox but I prefer it over the old one.

Mount upgrade token is kind of useless to me because I already have 10 account wide mythic mount.
Companion upgrade token is still useful until there are 10 account wide mythic companion available in game.

I prefer the new system over previous ones, but I'm also just sitting on tons of trade bars that I just don't have a use for. In a general sense, I am completely against lockboxes in games that allow minors access to them. I only open with keys attached to VIP, BPs, etc.

It is nice that there is a lockbox with a guaranteed pack for those who absolutely have to open them till the mythic mount drops... but personally I considered tradebars as the most lucrative drop, so for me the new system is kinda worse. Nevertheless, you can still open any type of lockox that suits your tastes, so no biggie.

What I do not like is that the new system seems to be designed to tank the economy. There used to be some rarity and seasonal demand to pretty much all companions and mounts, but with such surplus of them the market inevitably crumbled. There needs to be set some buyout value for them to alleviate this disaster.

It;s all about RNG, some are lucky and get valuable stuffs, some gains less than valuable stuffs..

The new system at least have compensation system. That is after certain key usage you are assured to get certain item.

Now about stuffs values, more they are available = value/price decline. Less available = price/value increase. Thats normal thing.

So if items from lockbox seems have low value, that's mean there are too many of them available in AH.

Before mounts become account wide, you where lucky if manage to find Legendary mount with 1 mil price tag.
Now legendary ones you can buy for ~300k AD.

These new lock boxes are really tiresome. Honestly people, fellow players, the randomness of actually getting anything of value is so tiny it is not worth buying keys. I have tried about 30 of the new Dragon Slayer Lockboxes, and the vote on my part is open the older ones, get your trade bars, buy the epic insignia, convert it to dust and upgrade your collars and insignia, or for those, like myself, who pug ancient dragon hunts, buy several health stones because to stay alive during the run.
No, I think the new lockbox system is ridiculous and to put it bluntly, the junk offered is not as good as older content. Reducing the typical drops, tokens, bars, is also not fair. I have purchased my VIP, and save a few keys at a time, then use them to open boxes, but lately I open the last type of Lockbox of Ill Omen rather than these new tracking boxes.
Give the people something of value, whether we buy VIP for keys or buy key bundles, we are using our real world cash to get this and getting kicked in the *&$#*@ for our foolish decisions to open useless boxes.

For me, I am upgrading 8 legendary insignia still, lock boxes with more trade bars are better than the new ones.
The trade bars are a good way to get the insignia I need. Yes there are insignia in chests/prof boxes and I get those as well. Collars need the powder too, but I have 3 epic and 2 legendary collars and I am fine with that.

The freebies after x number of openings is nice, but I don't open may just keys that come with VIP and any given for in game activities so... meh on the freebies. Different people will get different results with any lock box system, give the new boxes a chance I would say.

I like it, saves me the time of even bothering with it until I have X# of keys to get what I want. Not a real fan of RNG and I just presume I already know the outcome and will need all 250 keys to get what I want and since there is really nothing else I want from the new lock box I can just wait until I can get the item that offers it.

Since I am a fan of VIP I know will get there eventually with the keys.

With the other lock boxes you were guaranteed X# of trade bars so I would open every time I got 20-30 keys or so and as I still have about 6K trade bars with nothing to spend it on there really is no need for me to do anymore there.

Well, the new lockbox system would be at least acceptable, if the "used keys counter" progress from the last lockbox would carry over to a new one, but that's not the case here...

I'll stick to the lockboxes with the old system and make some AD from selling their loot, and then just buy what i might want from the new lockboxes directly from the Auction House without having to pray to RNGesus.

New boxes seem to be very good for absolutely brand new players and the ah is flooded of the common prizes so little resale value is a joke. Biggest draw back of the new boxes are the lack of guaranteed trade bars, its a huge hit to thier value. I got far more value out of 30 keys in the old boxes then 200 in the new. Depends on what you need I guess I'm going to hesitate to open any the new boxes going forward because of the massive trade bar deficit between them alone.

The rewards on the bonus track are based on the box you open. Not just how many boxes you open in general.

Personally like the latest 3 legendary lockboxes and the system that they have.

Guaranteed pulls/milestones are what players have been asking for right? There’s this thing called balance, and with guaranteed drops added in, something has to be reduced somewhere. If the system of a particular lockbox is undesired, don’t use keys and save them for another.

With pretty much any of the lockboxes it is essentially cheaper to let someone else dance with RNG and buy the item(s) you want from the trade house vs buying keys (especially since trade house prices overall have dropped significantly). Personally would just save VIP keys over a period of time and open lockboxes 2-4 times a year. Arguably there is essentially no “loss” when using VIP keys because the cost of the keys is significantly reduced in the first place. Also personally wouldn’t base Guild/Alliance rewards on something that isn’t effectively sustainable/depends on personal RNG. May look kind of shaky if all of a sudden contests, etc. are reduced/ended simply because leadership isn’t getting the residual/collateral items from opening lockboxes to pass off as rewards that they used to.

VIP keys are in addition to the various other VIP perks and 30 VIP keys are 237.5% cheaper than buying three sets of 10 enchanted keys, it just takes 30 days to get them which is the trade off.

In regard to buying keys, 2.5kk AD (not discounted) for 30 keys is a pretty steep price to try and make back with lockboxes, especially a number of the older lockboxes though it can be done with favorable RNG... Personally pulled Kravatos (2nd key), Bigby’s hand (100th key) with the Dragonslayer lockbox and x2 Rumpadumps, x3 Bags of Holding and a Mythic Insignia with around 60 keys with the Myconid lockbox. Even though not everyone has favorable RNG a lot of the time, the “value” of drops with those 160 keys alone is reasonably comparable to the hundreds of keys personally used over the years with the previous lockboxes that didn’t have milestones…

The value yielded by the new lockboxes is way way lower than the old ones.

I am opening the old lockboxes that got a separate tradebar drop while supply lasts - I should have enough for a few years.

With old lockboxes you could actually buy keys and expect to have a net AD gain from it. With new system, very unlikely.

Well, as mentioned above, with the old lockbox system you're always getting a good amount of Tradebars, and you can use them during a sale to really push your character(s) forward, with the new lockbox system, unless you actually pull some major reward from it or spend a ton of keys for the "guaranteed rewards" you'll always lose.

And i don't get the praise for those "guaranteed rewards", because they still involve praying to RNGesus and hoping for something good, and while you pulled some mythic mount from it, most other players probably just got an uncommon one...

I've sunken 100 keys each into the Dragon Cult and the Dragonslayer's lockbox, and what i've gotten from the Companion/Mount "reward" isn't worth mentioning - but hey, i can still waste another 50 keys on one of them for 1k Tradebars, right?
    Forget it!
When i use 150 lockbox keys on a lockbox with the old system, i'll probably end up with close to 10k Tradebars - been there, done that - then used those Tradebars for buying thousands of Companion Upgrade Tokens during a sale.

Anyway, i gave the new system a chance, it's not worth it, i also stopped buying lockbox keys packs, because i have no use for them anymore, i get the keys i want through ViP instead.

What a person expects from lockboxes and what a person gets from lockboxes is often enough not the same with Neverwinter RNG lol.

RNG is RNG whether it is older or newer lockboxes although the newer ones have a guaranteed high tier pull at 250 keys (if not before) w/o RNG. While the older lockboxes essentially have the capacity to grant more trade bars, high tier pulls are not guaranteed/highly likely at ANY point, even after hundreds of keys... Also those boxes are limited in number and there will come a time when they are all gone, hoarded away and or ridiculously priced to where their feasibility is essentially gone…

As far as trade bars, if they are the “saving grace” and or the basis of “value” for older lockboxes then that argument is pretty mundane depending on the wants of the player. In the current market, what does the trade bar merchant substantially offer other than cosmetics/consumables that can’t be obtained fairly priced and or via game play?

The further you get away from the default 2 character cap and the closer you get to both 100% account wide bolsters, the less productive trade bars can be for a player. The introduction of Legacy Quests (companion upgrade tokens), account wide Mythic companions/mounts (100% bolsters) as well as insignias from nodes/drops for insignia dust all lessen the “value”/“necessity” of trade bars. For someone with only a few characters, yay trade bars, though those with a considerable number of characters/100% bolsters, not so much.

    P.S.

For those thinking that simply stating that you aren't going to buy keys anymore will somehow entice changes to the game, you may want to think again. As long as the Zen backlog exists (currently around 3 months on PS4) players will be considerably inclined to buy Zen at least for VIP.

Well, i'm set for years regarding old lockboxes and ViP time for keys, they changed the lockbox system before, at some point they're probably going to change it again, and i can wait...

And i doubt i'm the only one that stopped buying Lockbox Key Packs, most players might not bother with reading this forum let alone commenting here, but word gets around in game, and the "Yxz has aquired 123 from the Lockbox of Blabla." messages are not showing up as frequent as they have in the past during this time of the year.

When I use a key I want more than 1 thing. The dark omen always has tradebars, an opal or ruby or something, a cube of augmentation or a voucher. Getting 1 thing is dead in comparison. I am so lucky to have a guild mate who saved all the old ones that I like.
  • greywyndgreywynd Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 7,152 Arc User
I just let them pile up, then toss them in the vault when the box changes.

The new lockbox seems pretty sweet since they combine the good parts of the newer(ish) lockboxes (guaranteed rewards after certain amount of openings) with what people liked about the old lockboxes (tradebars). It looks like folks are using their keys on them based upon the amount of reward notifications I'm seeing in-game. Good job devs on listening to the player base.

Not sure what you mean. Are you talking about the lockbox that came out yesterday? Or the new lockbox mechanism?
Regardless, what people like for the old lockbox is every open has tradebar. This is not the case for the new lockbox although the new lockbox has more tradebar than previous one (if you open enough).

I have no idea, have not opened a lockbox since they changed it.

Now, instead of using 20 or 30 keys every month because of VIP I wait to have enough keys to guarantee what I want and because they always put what I want at the end I eventually have enough AD to purchase what I really wanted from the lockbox by using the AH. So basically, at this point I have 150+ enchanted keys and when I reach 250 of them there probably will still not be a new lockbox for me to use them on as I most probably will have already gotten what I want from this new lockbox via the AH.

In terms of the other stuff guaranteed at various intervals, well I still get that stuff by doing events and what not. Also, what I want now is not even found in any of the lockboxes so for the time being I just consider them useless items I collect for later sale in the AH.

In terms of the tradebars, I have almost 7K of that right now and am just waiting for something to spend it on. What is there is stuff I either already have or stuff I do not really want.
  • stark760stark760 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 654 Arc User
The newest lockbox has 9 milestones, and 3250 bars total for 3 of the milestones. The 3 pervious lockboxes, with same style, where it kept track of how many opened, only had 7 milestones, and 1000 bars total on the milestones. If opened the previous 3 lockboxes, probably not too happy. The newest lockbox has more trade bars as reward, unlike the previous 3, where you got 25 if you got trade bars as the reward. So newest one isn't "that bad". Previous 3 were not great rewards unless you got lucky and got mythic rewards, and less milestones, 7 compared to 9.

One tradebar is worth 500-1000 AD. Wait for tradebar sales, buy the most expensive purple insignia and sell it on AH. Insignias sell well.

They did make 1 minor Revision to the New Lockbox of Lost Knowledge which was a nice improvement; this was as they added a reward on 5 opens to obtain 250 Trade-bars. You can still obtain 125 (1/15 chance), 500 (1/50 chance) or 1,000 (1/100 chance) so this is a better start, at least for this version of lockbox. :+1:

Still you might likely do better with older Lockboxes, that gave 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, or 1000; yet at least it's not such a wide-gap. The biggest thing most like about older lockbox is they still award 3 different Tier's of reward's, in addition to the larger Trade-bar awards.

Anyways at least they added the 5 reward, so that's a positive development!
