The Watcher Set ME Mechanics - Impassable Barrier Never Goes Away

deaddregerdeaddreger Member Posts: 49 Arc User
We were doing an ME last night when we got the opportunity to spawn the extra boss for the chance at the The Watcher Set gear and legendary vanity pets. Well, we failed.. The boss was too much for us to handle and eventually we all ended up dying. That's not really the problem though..

When we went back to the end of the dungeon to retry the boss or to try to sneak around it so we can at least complete the dungeon, there was a barrier. This barrier never went away. The entire party sat outside where the boss was looking at the boss and the dungeon exit waiting for the barrier to disappear, but it never did. We waited for 30 minutes before we decided to all try /killme thinking maybe if we were all dead at the same time the barrier might disapear. Nope.. There were a few mobs left elsewhere in the dungeon, we killed those and cleaned the dungeon of mobs, but nope...

We probably spent 50-60 minutes in that dungeon after being defeated by the boss trying to figure out how to get past that impassable force field to no avail. Eventually we just had to abandon the ME and not get any credit for having completed it and not getting any more chances at that boss.

So for now, if I'm not in an end-game group that has a good chance at defeating that extra boss, I wont be attempting it if the party doesn't force us into it anyway. I would much rather get credit for completing the ME than end up failing and forsaking that run's rewards.

I've searched for other's who've had this problem, and I don't see any posts concerning it. I don't even see any posts about that barrier. We had one person in the party who has experienced this barrier but he said it disappears after 10 minutes or so. Well, he was eventually the first member of the party to abandon the ME when it didn't disappear.

I can't imagine that this is WAI (Working As Intended). But, maybe that's why there's an exit to the surface near the entrance and Cryptic really is that harsh. Anyway, I'd suggest not bothering with that wraith at the end of MEs at all if you're not prepared for the potential consequences. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to the rest of the team for any additional insights/investigation!

That barrier is actually meant to be. Or at least, it is here from the very start Watcher were implemented.
I did farm dozens and dozens of them with my team and every time we failed to kill one, the barrier appeared and it basically means "you've failed, get out".
What i do understand there is, if you fail to kill a watcher boss, then you fail the entier expedition and have to sit on your ME reward, exit and start a new one.

So Nitocris, is the barrier supposed to disappear or not after a certain amount of time?

Thats inaccurate. Most times I've failed a watcher run, if you wait a certain amount of time the barrier goes down and a message appears saying "you're not worthy" basically. Then you can complete the ME.

It seems to happen whenever it feels like it. It's highly annoying because it takes awhile to "fail" and drop the barrier and there's no way to know if it's actually going to work without waiting 15-20 minutes after you lose to the boss.

Thanks for the info. Me and my guild-mates currently avoid doing Watcher set runs unless we know we stand a good chance at succeeding. Sitting around for 15-20 minutes doing nothing in the hopes that we'll get by, or giving up our ME rewards, is not something anyone wants to do. If this is WAI (working as intended) it's pretty a horrible way to get people to avoid doing things and kills enjoyment.

Spawning a new boss (Watcher set one) is likely sending a message to the dungeon that a new criteria for advancement/completion is now up. Since this is an optional boss, the barrier should disappear. The team is investigating but I have no additional updates at this time.
