Developer Spotlight FAQ

Meet the person behind the username! Developer Spotlights offer the community a chance to get to know Developers better, find common ground, and offer insight into what different Devs do. Throughout the year we will be spotlighting different individuals on the Neverwinter team across the various disciplines. Because this is a community engagement opportunity we want you, the players, to come up with questions!

How does this work?
When a Dev Spotlight is announced, the individual’s name and job title will be announced towards the beginning of the month in a forum post. In that forum post, players can begin posting questions they would like to ask that Developer. The question thread will be open for several days and a max of 10 questions will be selected by the Developer to answer. The current plan is to have Developers write-up the answers which will in turn be posted as a blog.

What type of questions can be asked?
Dev Spotlights are to get to know the person behind the name so players are encouraged to ask about hobbies, how they got into the industry, D&D/gaming questions, etc. Questions can also be about what that person does within the team (“What’s the biggest tech challenge you’ve had to work on as a programmer for NW?”, “Do you get to choose the environment you want to work on or are they assigned?”) but should not center on specific game issues, game plans, etc (“Why hasn’t X issue been fixed?”, “Are you working on a new class?”).

Note: Questions of an inappropriate personal nature will not be tolerated.

Why are you using Developer time for this/Why is this an event?
Developer spotlights have been suggested by both the community and internally in the NW team as a way to get to know people better. Not only does this allow Devs to engage in a more relaxed fashion, it also provides community members who may be interested in game development a chance to learn more from personal experiences.
