I'm new to NW and have a question about additional slots. Can you get more slots without buying them? Thank you in advance for any answers/comments.
You can only get more character slot from the same account through "buying" in Zen store.
However, 1. buying from Zen store does not mean you actually have to pay real money. You need Zen which can be obtained through paying real money or from Zen exchange. 2. Certain packs from Zen store (that you buy) comes with one extra character slot.

The only way to gain character slots is to either buy the Zen item for 2 slots or by the packs that give them. The packs that give character slots are as follows:
• Dragonborn Legend Pack (+1 slot) • Menzoberranzan Renegade Pack (+3 slots) • Guardian of Neverwinter Pack (+1 slot) • Knight of the Feywild Pack (+1 slot)
While the game says the hard cap on characters is 50, these packs and the initial two you start with didn't count towards that limit, allowing you to have a maximum of 58 character slots. However, there may be a bug with maximum character slots at the moment as I just bought as many slots as I could and have all of those packs from when each were first released. I am capped at 52 character slots, not the 58 that it used to be. I contacted PWE and Cryptic for clarification on Friday but as most of the devs are off during the weekend, and I don't think support will know without consulting a developer, I don't expect Julia to hear back until at least Monday.

Also, keep in mind that character slots are currently 80% off until the 7th, making them 100 Zen for a pack of 2 slots. Super cheap, so right now is the time to buy them if you're wanting more slots!
