Previously, I had it set so all I had to do was click on the NW icon on my desktop and the game would open up through Steam. But Steam has screwed things up and now it won't connect to NW. I can click on the ARC icon and select NW but I would rather just have to click on the NW icon on my desktop and go through ARC. I know this can be done - but I don't know how to set this up. Please advise. Thank you

Load ARC. Click the icon on the left that looks like 9 square boxes. In that tile list of games, right-click Neverwinter and then choose "Create Desktop Shortcut." This will place a shortcut on your desktop. You can then move or pin it wherever you like. Clicking that will load ARC and then once ARC is loaded, the Neverwinter launcher will automatically load as well.
If you don't want ARC or Steam to be running when you play Neverwinter, do the following:
Find the installation directory for Neverwinter, or search for "Neverwinter.exe" - this is the launcher for the game itself and does not need ARC or Steam to be running to launch. Make a shortcut to it wherever you like or Pin it to your Taskbar or Start Menu (if on Win8/10) and you can launch the game regardless of how you installed it, whether through ARC or Steam.
Keep in mind, ARC and Steam are merely content delivery platforms. For all three Cryptic Games (Neverwinter, Star Trek Online, and Champions Online), one does not need to run ARC or Steam in order to run Cryptic's game launchers, nor subsequently their three games. Just shortcuts or pins to the games' launchers are all that is needed once installed.
