What is the point of XP rewards for crafting at max level?

I just reached maximum level (25) in weaponsmithing and I see that many of these level 35 crafts have XP as a reward. Since you are at max level anyway, what is the point?

Yes, I was thinking this the other day too... at level 25 all the tasks that reward just XP should be hidden... would make the list a bit cleaner by removing tasks you aren't ever going to do again.

Profession XP is for when they up the maximum level like they did from 20-25

Sure, but until that happens those tasks could be hidden when you are at max level for that profession.

Or just add another filter option "Hide tasks that only award Crafting Experience" or something along those lines.

There are no repeatable tasks that *only* award crafting experience except in Leadership, none of which are at the max level.

Most profession tasks have some experience as a reward in addition to whatever you make. The OP is asking whyyyyyy do the tasks at the maximum rank also award XP, and the answer is so that those values don't have to be added if they increase the max crafting ranks again.

Ahh, well that makes more sense then. I've been working on getting my Leadership to 25 on all my characters for the Enchanted Coffers so didn't realise other professions didn't have XP only tasks at max level.

Thanks for the info @beckylunatic :)

I suspect beckylunatic has the right answer.

The next question is where does the excess XP go when you craft. Is it lost or is it saved for when crafting is extended?

It isn't tracked. If the cap is raised, everyone starts from where they had levelled to.
