Fishing Hole Locations

archangelzorak01archangelzorak01 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 324 Arc User
So any of you who have done a little fishing and/or checked out the collections page for fishes have probably realized there are certain locations for many types of the fishes. I've spent a pretty good amount of time attempting to locate all of these special fishing locations.

On the first day I was able to locate 4 fishing spots, Northern Current, Eastern Current, Southern Current and Western Current. On my second day I found more, Seagrass Flat, Shoal, Estuary, Shipwreck, Deep Sea and Ocean Trench along with the southern, western and eastern current, yet the Northern Current was missing on day 2. I have not found all the fishing spots and I feel that there may be some sort of cycle to which ones appear on any given day that may or may not be tied into fishing spots that you have already fished at. Still not entirely sure how the system works, but here is a map of all the fishing spots I've found so far. I also found the super secret fishing spot located inside the weekly quest zone. If you happen to stumble upon any other fishing spots that I don't have in my map feel free to post here with a screen shot of your location as well as the name of the spot.

*Day 3: Found Dragonbone Island and added Oyster Reef, which is also the 'Fishing Frenzy!' Heroic Encounter. Located Brackish Water as well as Shallows.

Missing Locations: none

Thanks to @fester69troll for missing locations!

I've managed to reel in every quality of fish multiple times with ease. (I'm working off memory here so I may be wrong)

*There are 5 tiers of fish. Tier 1: common; Tier 2: uncommon, Tier 3: uncommon, Tier 4: rare, and Tier 5: epic.

When reeling in any tier other than the top tier (epic) you can visually see your progress bar, but the progress bar is absent when reeling in the epic fishes, which I'm sure is intended and I feel its appropriate, I liked the idea of the best fishes having a tiny bit more of a challenge. My only suggestion here is I feel the delay between casting your line and getting a bite may be a little long. (also, when fishing with Krill it appears to be a 1 cast per bait situation, not sure about Lugworms as I can't buy them yet)

I also really hope there is a faster boat I'll be able to buy in the Zen store or earn in the game as this map really is enormous, it takes almost 5 minutes to traverse from east to west with the uncommon quality boat (the one with outriggers).

Also I have found numerous 'Maps in a bottle' and obtained the 'treasure map' from within, however at this time it appears that the treasure map system has yet to be implemented. Each time I use a map it opens a small map of icewind dale with the only opting being 1. Continue and nothing on the map itself is interactive. So either its broken/bugged or simply not implemented yet.

You'll actually be able to earn two tiers of faster boat in-game through playing in the Sea of Moving Ice. I'd also like to add that in both cases you will not need to run Svardborg, they're obtainable just through play in the zone.

Also, you are correct in your assumption that the treasure map system is not finished in the current build on preview. In a future build that screen will show an image of where a hidden treasure is. Technically, you could go and find that treasure right now, but there's no indication of where it is, so it would be quite arduous to find.

Thanks for the response asterdahl. I'm looking forward to getting my speedboat, it will make uncovering the entire map much much easier. I'm really having a blast with the fishing, even when I'm doing my usual stuff on the Live server I find myself wishing I could jump back over to Preview just to catch more fishes. Kudos to the dev team for that.

    It wasn't that hard ^^

This is co cool, I can't wait to see finished version :)

I'll check out the locations for the ones I had missing, thanks so much.

When I fished at the HE the fish I got was an 'Oyster Reef' fish so I assumed that was Oyster Reef since I hadnt found it yet.

*yep, found Oyster Reef at the location you provided, I'll update my map. Neither Thermal Vent nor Ice Cave were available for me just now when I checked so I'll have to come back tomorrow and see if they are there. Thanks again for the help.

Checked again today. No luck at either Ice Cave or Thermal Vent (either location). Will check again tomorrow.

OP updated with map and Runestead Location, and gods help me but I cannot get the thermal vent to pop up for me, so I'm still marking it as unconfirmed until I can verify its location. I was able to get Ice Cave to show up for a little while though, but 3 days trying without ice cave makes me think some fishing spots will be more rare than others.

If spots "randomly" appear and disappear, then it may be significantly more difficult to catch 'em all if you're not able to check multiple times per day as well. I wonder if available spots will vary by instance or not.

    A similar problem with Shoal.
    I never saw.

We're super excited to see you all mapping out the fishing holes and exploring the zone! I won't spoil too much, but I believe it has already been mentioned in a blog so I'll repeat it here. Fishing spots will be depleted more quickly depending on the number fishing. This also means that the active spots will change more often with more fishers.

Ahhh, that seems appropriate. Dare I say, 'balanced'. Good job and thanks for the info @asterdahl

Number 17 says unconfirmed, but I've checked and it's definitely there. You can't see it from a distance like you can the others though. You have to be pretty close to it.
