Since we are at 1:500 ZAX ratio I would not be surprised if this one goes away.
Inserting more AD into the economy when it already has too much AD does not seem like a smart move.

Except that it falls on the black friday dates, and I really really hope it's not instead of the usual 50% zen discount. I would rather have the 50% zen...

That is the weekend of Black Friday. The ZAX is currently maxed out due to a lack of Zen being put into the system, not so much because there is too much AD floating around. If Cryptic repeat the 50% off Zen Store sale from last year, then there could well be a brief influx of extra Zen which then doesn't get spent when players realise there is virtually nothing worth buying in the store. The brief double AD event would then help soak up that excess.
I'm surprised they put it on the calendar and not bring it out as a surprise event. I for one will not salvage anything starting today just in case the event actually goes down. And I sure hope this isn't being done in lieu of the 50% Zen store sale.

Correction, the fat whales have too much AD. Normal players have barely enough to meet the ends. Changing anything changes nothing, they still have too much in the end.

There is nothing on which to spend AD or Zen. The people with millions and millions of AD have probably already left the game.

I disagree There is a backlog because people want Zen store items, not because they do not. This demand outmatches the supply of people wanting AH items/in-game bought items. A double AD event may help as people do impulse buys but may backfire as they just change it to Zen.
Cryptic will never reliably confirm or deny this, but I think the backlog is related to a slowdown in zen purchases, not zen hoarding - or it's a combination of the two. The real test will be Black Friday. If it's hoarding, the backlog will begin to clear fairly rapidly as normal market behavior returns. If it's a slump in zen sales, it won't and will likely continue.
Q3 just closed, some info may be gleaned from PWI's quarterly earnings report when it comes out, and more when they publish the annual report in January.... when cryptic went through layoffs a while back, it was predictable from the abysmal earnings report...
