There is supposed to be SOME amount of feeling that you don't have enough Voninblod
And, as the entire community told you when you introduced Black Ice, is a horrible way of forcing players to grind. And as with BI in the past, players just won't do it.
Except players did do it. A lot. What some people say and what we see players do are not always the same. Again, though I'm not saying its tuned right, but its probably not grossly off from my feelings of personal gameplay.
I'm sorry @panderus but you seem to be obstinately refusing to see the point that is being made here over and over again. Players may well be 'doing it' in significant quantities but they are almost universally hating doing it. The point being: mining/farming Voninblod is in no way, shape or form an enjoyable or fun way to spend time in the game. Clearly, the data you keep looking at is only telling you part of the story, but are you honestly going to try and convince people that 'they really were/are enjoying' mining Black Ice or farming for relics and Voninblod to empower their almost completely useless new pieces of gear when they keep telling you they aren't ?
Come at the issue from the developers side and think about these questions:
How do you know it is universally hated? If so many people hate it, why would they keep doing it (admittedly, some subset of players will do whatever is hated if it gains them power)? How do you measure how many people are doing it despite hating it?
Is there a clear answer to any of those?
I hate it, also please anyone can tell that it is a boring needless unrewarding grindy mechanic that is not an enjoyable task. I guess looking at it from a developer viewpoint means ignoring what is commonly said about it in and around the game and just decide it's an awesome mechanic apart from what the players actually think? Sounds like an awesome way to make a game... just not one anyone would want to play.
Also the reason why people do it:
1) They are connected to communities in the game and so because of the social interactions they get in game they will do whatever tasks are placed in front of them in order to facilitate the social connections even if those task are unenjoyable in of themselves.
2) They are hoplessly addicted to the progression system and are chasing the idea of something they will do when they get more powerful that will be more fun, they will put up with terrible grindy systems because of the idea that fun exists somewhere over the horizon.
3) They find other parts of the game and the mechanics there in enjoyable and in order do those effectively they will put up with grindy boring mechanics in other areas.

@panderus, can you let us trade supplies for voninblood? it should help a bit
btw. Legendary ring of combat regeneration is still in the game /and my inventory.......
Please get off yet keesters and fix this abomination BEFORE October 18th!! You are hemorrhaging players on Xbox, just with the reports of how this mod is going for the PC players.
No one that I've spoken to wants this kind of carp in the game, and many will leave if this silly design is not removed very soon.
Are you guys listening?!? Please listen...
As bad as it is... it is still better than it never was!
If this is supposed to be a joke, then I don't get it. Actually I don't even get the meaning out of this, even if its not a joke.
i dont like repeating the runs in Coldrun for reps/boons, i rather go back to lonelywood because it is easier for dailies. landscape is nice, but too hard, and Byrn Shander is almost unplayable due to vision issue and few quests still too hard. i had to put up with lags in lonelywood zone. all the giants use same tactic with rock throwings and each time it became more critical after each hit if not run away fast enough. i find after unlocking Cold Run, i play less, didnt like most of missions due to low item bases not meeting those requirements.
that female yeti need to tone down, it just took my health by 90% and those wolves shouldnt keep spawning after the male are down, too much stun effects and no skills availeable or potions get used, that is deadly.
since Mod 10, it is worst ever "potion guzzling" like beer drinker who got like there is no tommorrow, i had 200 potions of 70 lvl health potions, now i had to take some from my alts because it not replacing fast and it get expensive and massive cash sink. it is reason why i quit playing DDO because i was going broke so fast that i cant repair my armors.
This is very reminiscent of all the feedback regarding ambush rings.
@panderus I completely understand where you are coming from with forum posts not being a reliable way to collect data. However where I disagree with you is that this "new" empowerment system is a success because people are doing it.
You guys need to find a better way to poll the player base and find out what is liked and what is disliked. Perhaps a survey tied to a reward from the claims vendor that offers 1 free bound blood Ruby per account upon completion would help with this.
Either way I understand never winter is a free to play, and there needs to be ways to make money. This way is definately not one of them (by frustrating your player base into buying keys and purple tools). I think perhaps adding new items to the Zen market that enhance the player experience are a better way to accomplish this (for example an account bound legendary mount or a storm Kings thunder themed pack ala dragonborn legend pack). I'm sure I will be largely ignored in my suggestions but I guess it still helps to vent.

You clearly don't understand the mindset of an Addict or person in an Abusive Relationship... just because Slaves worked the cotton fields during Slavery and the Jews walked into the showers doesn't mean they were loving the experience. There's 4 different examples there of people countinuing to do something just because it was the only thing (and kinda the best option) they thought they have.
Pigeon holing people into one corse of action and then sayin.. SEE.. they like it!!1 That's a ridiculous argument.
Now... aside from that clarification.. I'd like to say.. I LOVE the function of the Relic Gear... it's FARMING gear.. not everyday grinding gear.. and TY that you didn't invalidate Dragonflight gear with Relic Gear.
I intend to use Relic and Frostborn ONLY for CN, FBI, and other content that gives a chance at decent rewards.... atm, that's really only FBI and CN.. and maybe Tiamat. but it seem obvious to me that there will be another SKT related instance where Relic gear will be useful.. if not.. you guys really aren't too bright. . We still have to get teh Ring of Winter, after all. .
Please don't take my support of the Relic Gear as stamp of approval of all the trashy other things you guys have done and are doing to increase the cost (in the currency of time) of playing this game.
It's true there has been a huge imbalance in Time vs Cash to advance in game... but with the death of Gateway, addition of SKT grind and Empowerment grind... and several other negative QoL changes you have made... the balance has shifted to one that is more like.. spend 40 hours a week for a month to get a viable level 70 toon to be CARRIED by friends... or spend a couple hundred dollars...
This is shameful...

Here's a novel idea: ask them!
Most of the people that speak the most, think the least... look at PE Zone and the Forums... why would the Devs rely mainly on the opinions of Intellectually Lazy people that seek Instant Gratification to get Imaginary Items to inflate their false sense of Self-Esteem?
Most of the people that don't mind the Relic gear or the way the game is are actually PLAYING the game and progressing.. while the other people are rage quitting or sitting around ranting and waiting for the Devs to finally make things easier to get... like they always do with older content.
When that happens. you'll finally hear less complaining.. because those fools that were complaining this whole time and not taking advantage of being one of the few on the front line getting the best rewards from the new content will think their complaining actually changed something. And by then... most of the REAL benefit from the new content and gear will be gone.. because... the simpler you make something.. the more people that can do it.. and the less people that can actually profit from it.

Your right about one thing, people will quit. Those "lazy" players are not really lazy they just either don't want to invest, or don't have the time to invest in a grindfest mechanic like empowerment. So without these "lazy" players you will have no one to play with. Congratulations for being the dedicated hardworking king of a dead game. Just because you personally don't see it from the non-vocal crowd, doesn't mean this grumbling isn't going on behind closed doors. While attrition is natural in every mmo, it's seems the current development trend is pushing away old players and becoming less friendly for new players, both of which are bad things. Complainers and those giving constructive feedback exist in droves on these forums. The problem exists in sorting through all this noise to discover what is relevant, which is not an easy task I would imagine. Whatever metric that is currently being used apparently isn't working. That is ultimately what needs to be worked on or these problems will continue.
devs, get your minds out of sandbox, empowerment isnt successful, i HATE it! way too much to invest the "V-bloods" to collect. it is 10x worst than collecting Linu's Favors.

I said Intellectually Lazy.. those who refuse to try or test something.. or think about best routes to get what they want or use what they have. The Empowerment system IS moronic IF it was meant to be used 24/7 or with no skill/gear groups where doing a run can take an hour..... it's not.

Hey friends when Ironzerg is spearheading the criticism how about putting some more weight to it? Keep in mind that the opinion of people like him who actually play the game should carry more weight!
50 v-units per task on daily, and that one weekly only gives 18 v-blood? that pretty weak.
i counted, we need 55k for boons, several more for rest of champgain. i dont like Cold Runs, rewards isnt worth my time due to little too tough and only small selective tasks i dont mind doing them, but the rest is nightmare. Lonelywood seem okay, some are easier but few are tough for solo, with 2 fell ice trolls are too much, they shut down combat skills, same with wolves, they are easier but too much shutdown skills like trolls did, wolves always outflanking, not possible to outrun and hit, too many cross-fire angles. Bryn Sharder is environmental vision nightmare, hated to do Totems and saving the merchants at wagon nodes, and that weekly Yeti task, that female yeti was overpower. potions dont help much, cooldowns are too long.
i know folks want more challenges, these are little too fast or hit too hard.
rewards are junk, other older zones are balanced for loots and amount of cash drops seem help, but SKT's zones just takes away lot of investments and drain so much that some players get outspend than making investments. some class cant survive solo, others can.
took me 4 weeks to unlock Cold Run, and only to find it disgusted, i am working on 3rd boon, and i am broke on V-blood vails.
either reduce the cost or increase the drops, otherwise, i felt burnout again since Icewind dale released, and i have 4 other alts, huh? i am tired and upset by looking at prospect of dragging 4 other alts to repeat same torturing grinds. do i have choice by making them as packmules and on backburner? it would take me 2 years to get them from 1.8k/2.2k to reach 3.1k on my alts to do some SKT's questlines. i guess i rather wait for next Mod for "alt-friendly".
because they are so busy nerfing next and the next, and the next next, and we wont see some character improvements. that nail will seal the fate.
Maybe need to drink a protein shake before you venture forth. I find these areas of very little challenge. Also the voninblod is quite easy to obtain to just get you through the time gate and boons. Where it is a pain is on empowerment.

@ niadan Disagree.. the whole system requests too much SILLY hours of riding around doing nothing and its really boring.
WE ARE really late in the stage of this game to introduce something so flawed and heavily gated, we already have many other silly little tasks to do.
No reason at all for them to drop this on us in this manner.
This is the flaw, this isnt year 1 of a mmo, its year 3+, with tons of other grind introduced since year 1, unless they physically change their whole system and dump ALL old content as useless, no reason to tie up all of our time riding around in circles looking for stupid relics.
I would accept this level of grind (and have many a time) in other mmos, as ALL old content, is basically re-aligned EVERY new release , making it worthless to do.
They seem to quite enjoy making OLD content usable forever here, so if that is going to continue to be the case, then they clearly need to balance this way better then it is.
Its just a matter of time consumption, its too much, too harsh and boring and UN-FUN. They like to ask us that, then promptly ignore the majority feedback on it.
@silverkelt I agree with you. So just one quick word of warning, you might want to avoid visiting the patch available on the Preview Server. The new boats used to travel around the large expanses of water that dominate the new zones are effectively 50% mounts with nothing faster currently on show (though I'm thinking blue boats from Tradebar Store and epic and legendary falling from a new lockbox as a possible/likely scenario). The new version of fishing that operates while you are in a boat is going to add a whole new, though optional, level of grinding to the game. Enter and test it at your peril >:)
@asterdahl I just remembered this scene and realized how it parallels the cluelessness that the Devs sometimes have in regards to the state of the community. Check it out. .
Well, I did not count those boring vigilance quests but the specific nerf that was introduced at launch only reduced mobs hp by, I guess it was 50% and increased the exp gain a little. They also decreased the amount of vigilance quests that had to be completed to get to the next area. THOUGH, even with azures in our utility slots, we finished the last quest in spinward rise, only being lvl 67. So that patch did not help.
Edit: I still dont see why we are discussing this. This is completely off-topic and does not help this thread at all.
I'm curious about FBI, but a little curiosity doesn't entice me to grind another armor set that needs constant maintenance. I really like pve in this game, but FBI is just one dungeon and we have lots to choose from. Even the difference in stats is so small, and at least the old lvl 70 gear doesn't fall apart from the seams two hours in. Any armor that requires daily babying needs to be much, much better than the alternatives to justify the costs... and if relic gear was that good, it would be near game-breaking.

thefabricantMember, NW M9 PlaytestPosts: 5,248Arc User
The problem with the set is, those of us who have all 4 pieces, don't need the set and aren't willing to empower it. The voninblood grind does not justify it.

There are many things they could do, but it boils down to the most common complaints, there simply is not enough vlbood for doing daily items like quests (amp it up to 150 per) weeklies (amp it up to 500 per week).
Double the value of the relics you give now.. and decrease the timer on the armor by like 75% )
Lanolins should drop at least 50% tool table chance.
These fixes will at least make this playable.
You guys are HAMSTER crazy.. looking at the new mod .. LOL LOL LOL ... 50k vblood again for weapons.. HAMSTER you guys just HAMSTER you.

I feel at this point they just are allowing this thread as a venting purposes, they will not change anything, which just frustrates me further.
MAKING super boring content, for the purpose of making money IS NEVER going to win you fans, nor will it increase your profits in the long run.
THIS is a unacceptable practice.
I saw your requirements for the new weapons.. LOL. just lol.
FIX this garbage this week.

@panderus, can you let us trade supplies for voninblood? it should help a bit. i have no use for more supplies ....
MAKING super boring content, for the purpose of making money IS NEVER going to win you fans, nor will it increase your profits in the long run.
THIS is a unacceptable practice.
