[PC]The dreaded best solo PVE class question, but with good reason honest!

eqmesmeeqmesme Member Posts: 7 Arc User
Hi there

I'm looking for a good solo PVE class. Doesn't have to be amazingly great, but that wouldn't hurt

I'm unfortunately disabled in my main arm (my mouse-use arm) it's a fairly recent thing that pee's me off and I struggle to get used to . It also leaves me in 24hr chronic pain and this varies throughout the day, so sometimes it reaches a peak and I just have to log with very little notice and strangely that often annoys people if I'm grouped heh, so I tend to solo alot.

My gaming history (in case this helps) is really really long, been online gaming over 20 years, started on an itty bitty 2800k modem playing MUDs, then UO, EQ, DAOC etc etc, hardcore raided, played healers, tanks, ranged and melee dps, cc, all both raid and casual until about 6 years ago, and then everything became very casual heh.

Character-wise I can no longer play the dashy-in-and-out type classes (I really am going to miss my detect traps :disappointed: ) and found range usually works best for me, or stand there and take the hits as long as I don't have to turn around a lot (ie as long as there is auto-face target - close up requires a wider range of movement with the mouse, when they come at me from behind, it's freaking painful to turn)

Thanks alot in advance for understanding and any advice you guys (and gals) can give.

Devoted cleric or control wizard gameplay is more keyboard and less mouse. Devoted cleric is a little easier to build tankier so that you can sustain a few hits when you can't move out of the way, and Righteous does perfectly respectable damage for solo play. Control wizards shouldn't need to worry about getting too swarmed with mobs because that is where the control comes in. Both have decent capabilities for debuffs and single-target damage for boss fights.

Guardian fighter and paladins both need to move the camera view around a lot, so I can't recommend, even though survivability is good. Paladin would be a little better because their block is 360 degrees of protection, meaning it's not urgent to be facing everything currently trying to hit you. Great weapon fighter also does best when you're comfortable making a lot of micro-movements.

Hunter ranger archer might be ok if you have a really solid tanky pet. HR trapper would probably hurt you. Scourge warlock again does a fair bit of micro-movement in short sprints to avoid damage. I can see why you feel the need to shelve a rogue.

I know you said for solo play but i just thought i would mention, the SW i play when in groups i find im standing still using at wills alot. Then spam a few encounters. If my group has a good tank i rarely have to move at all.

HR trapper is actually quite light on your mouse arm as you may forego at-wills entirely for solo as soon as you get above level 55-60, so basically no clicking. It's very demanding on your other arm though (keyboard).

Sorry to hear about the arm, that's a definite bummer. Is it 100% disabled, or do you have minor range of motion in it?

If 100% disabled - that's going to be tricky for *any* video game, let alone this one. Best I can suggest is perhaps OP or GF - most movement and stuff would be keyboard, although you'd still use your other hand for moving the mouse to spin the camera around. Most other classes will be even more intensive as they have to dodge out of red areas often, and are on the move quite a bit.

If you have *some* range of motion, then your options will widen considerably.

Is it still painful to click w/ the mouse, or only when trying to move it around? Cause ur never gonna be able to get past the pain issue if ur main problem lies in moving the mouse, as all classes and content require you to move the camera facing to see where ur going fully.

It'd help you if the game had a keybind to snap the camera to the direction ur toon is facing, as then ya could just use the directional keys to move then re-orient the camera w/o using the mouse, but NW doesn't have that option afaik.

Otherwise, only other thing I can think of, aside maybe from making ur at-wills keybinds instead of mouse-binds, is to get a class that relies heavily on non-targeted pbAoEs.

Since ur on PC, maybe try a Stormwarden Combat HR, now that they've been buffed. You can use Clear the Ground for a good filler AoE at-will, and ya got good-to-decent pbAoEs in Plant Growth, Steel Breeze, Fox Shift, and Rain of Swords to pick from, and/or buffing powers like Hawkeye or Oak Skin that don't take any targeting and buff you and allies. For Passives, I'd just slot both Aspects (pack and lone wolf) so ur more sturdy passively and are also a walking Combat Advantage buff to anyone nearby (for solo ya can rely on an active companion to help- or just replace one of the passives w/ Blade Storm). Maybe take Forrest Ghost and Meditation for dailies cause they don't take a target or specific aiming to use.

I would say roll a Pally for their ease of use, but they have more targeted abilities, and in groups people will expect you to tank or heal w/ them, which you may not want to be beholden to. For pure solo play, though, a Prot/Justice OP is still a good and easy choice- even if its dps isn't stellar. I'd slot it w/ Templar's Wrath, Burning Light, Radiant Strike, Aura of Courage and Wisdom, and w/e else ya want in the remaining free ability slots.

    Hi man! Hope you'll recover.
I had similiar issue (nerve injury in my mouse-arm) and I did good as SW in PvE - I just couldn't play PvP.
SW has nice survivability now and decent AoE attacks and you simply can not use encounters (or bind them to other keys). I was playing on laptop so I use thumb on touchpad to move around :D
