I'm not saying it's a problem that people use proven build. Use them, they are an example of a quality character. The problem is people follow them blindly, only looking to be at top. They don't understand the mechanics or why a power is used in a particular order.
There is difference in learning to play a class through a build and being a carbon copy. The character in that build has three brutal enchants, so I must have three brutals no more no less. That character is running these artifacts, so I MUST run these artifacts. It's the brain dead approach to building a character.
The problem most people have is they are lazy and look for someone else to build a character and explain how things work for them. Amagine the state of the GWF of Lazalia or Lia Knowles didn't pave the way and lay it out in black and white. Same thing for the SW, Vell Crowe and Kala.
Point is no one wants to figure it out for themselves, they all just wait on the newest update for the build they follow. Too many carbon copies of other player for the sake of topping the paingiver. @mahburg COD analogy is spot on.
Yet people still won't know how to play the class half the time even when it says it... lol

This is exactly why for the most part in my CW guide, I try to explain things and only briefly mention gear near the end.

The funny thing about your guide @thefabricant is I bet 95% of the people that come across your "almost everything" cw guide don't bother to look at it because they aren't CW's, which is a shame. There is a wealth of general game knowledge in your guide, I used and reviewed it when I started building my ranger up again. Amazing work! We could never duplicate it on Xbox.
