angel of protection companion - I can't place items on the right column (item) slots

I got Angel of Protection recently
I leveled it with "greater companion experience treatise" only - he is 35 lvl
all runestone slots are full with runestones
all item slots, i can't place items there
In other companions I can place items normally
all other companions leveled without treatise (does it matter?)
one other companion was boosted with 1 piece of treatise and I kept leveling him normally. I could place items on him

Just to confirm, you have started the Training task? Until you have completed the upgrade task, you wont have the additional slots unlocked.

Make the companion idle and active again.

If your companion slots are full, you will not be able to equip the most recent comp... u have to either buy more companion slots, or discard a companion to have 1 open slot.
