There are over 150 companions in the game. Make use of them.

After seeing so many different kinds of mounts it got me thinking on how many there were in the game, and with companions. It's one of neverwinter's unique characteristics, yet they do not make use of it at all.

Either balance bonding runestones so their effectiveness is equal on all active companions, or make some change to their abilities to make them all useful (the former idea is the easiest to be done.

Don't just make defenders immune to red, make other types atleast durable or smart enough to avoid it them too. Range companions will still be desired for their quicker engagement.

Soon half of NW population are going to be warlocks.

Strikers have 100% lifesteal chance, and I'm sure the other types have something too, it's just too bad the descriptions of the passive companion powers don't tell anything.

and ofc every player has the endhame goal of lightfoot thief + bonding making every other companion irrelevant.
Please fix Zhentarim Warlock companion's skill "Arcane Warping" to the originally intended "Arcane Boost"

Pure -> Transcendent Plague Fire weapon enchantment giving 80damge/20 seconds for 500k+ AD is a joke.

Pity those who use warlocks or thieves. They just go with the flow and don't care about anything but bigger numbers. Would you rather party with a surfer, or an accountant...?

I try out other junk. Slapped bonding on my repentant cultist I upgraded to 35 on my GF. It works, it's good enough, I'm enjoying it, end of story. I'm not going to slap a companion on for big numbers if it doesn't fit the theme.

I think the reason so many people opt for the Zhentarim Warlock of the Lightfoot Thief is due to the lack of testing other companions. Repentant Cultist is one of them: 1-sec CD on main attack and a debuff. Certainly a good tanking companion IMO. The Dwarven Battlerager is another one that looks interesting: 3 offensive slots and a 2-sec CD on main attack that hits twice and gets a speed buff the longer he fights. Also the Pseudodragon hits twice with it's main attack on a 2-sec CD and has 3 offensive slots as well plus a DoT.

I'd love to use the Dwarven Battlerager on my GF for solo content, but I haven't got the AD to upgrade him to epic atm. I've already spent millions upgrading Young Yeti, Wild Hunt Rider, Blink Dog, Shadow Demon, Lightfoot Thief, Air Archon and a few others I am forgetting. Also the price for upgrading companions (the reduction was welcome and nice but not enough) is another hindrance to thorough testing.

my suggestion on the companion upgrade was 50% more of a reduction then they did.

Its still way over the top honestly.

The cultist biggest drawback is that the buff actually doesnt apply.. so it has no active for you if you slot it.

Well that and the fact he is almost impossible to get hold off thanks to the near mythical key drop required in one of the WoD lairs. Slightly rarer than you getting an insignia from a skill node I believe >:) ....sorry, couldn't resist that one :)

They could do something like they did for the elemental archons, if you have a certain grouping of companions you get extra bonuses. To prevent everyone then running around with warlock and the same buddies, they could make it that bonuses are applied only specific classes.

    its a easy fix imo..

make the bonding stones cap at 3 total .. and make them like twice as long of a buff.

Why? because sure, those who use QUICK hitting pets would still be better off.. but NOT so much better off that it is the only way to go, as people could choose any pet in the end and only be marginally less effective. Frankly unless someone shows me a better nearly as cheap, I will just use my blink dog.

I think this would fix everything in one total fell swoop. There would be no reason to do anything else.

On the topic of not going with the flow, I agree that not everything should done for BIS, immersion is important. For my cleric I don't want an evil looking companion, and for my ranger the best fit is the owl or the hawk.

To me the Mercenary is better than the zent warlock

This is a great suggestion. And maybe nerf the % a little to adjust for 100% uptime. But pets with 3 second cooldown on their attacks still suffer.

I bring this topic up because i look through all those unique and awesome looking pets, some with really nifty debuffs or buffs for all types of builds.

Despite the new mount system's rocky start, it's much better at separating fashion from function than the companion system. I'd love to see the companion system rewritten to separate your companion's appearance from your companion's effects. It won't happen though, because the return-on-investment for the developer time isn't obvious.

Many companions were designed so that their fastest ability is on a 3-second cooldown (or longer), because they predate bonding stones and it simply didn't matter. If more of the old-school strikers were made just a little quicker on the draw, players would be less inclined to limit themselves to the 3-4 companions with the absolute fastest attack.

I use an ambush drake on my DevOP, which also has a pretty fast attack and applies a debuff with its bite, and I love the thing, but they'd be terribly difficult to get because I think that event only ran once and the drake scrolls were never added to Simril gifts.

I use the Vicious Dire Wolf a lot because the interrupts and prones provide a lot of utility even though it's not as fast an attacker.

Sprites in theory should be good, and their daze would be an interesting addition but that's on a gawdawful long cooldown and therefore of no practical use.
