If you upgraded a mount, you will still get proper credit for the fastest speed you had available to each character. No compensation if you did that multiple times or in addition to owning an account-unlocked 110% speed mount. That is the old pricetag for vanity (not unlike how nobody got compensated for items they transmuted prior to the price reduction).
This is why they pulled the mount training when they did, to prevent others from going down that road.

I upgraded my shadow wolf with mount trainers manuals because I wanted it to be 110% and still be the shadow wolf mount. Guess all the zen converted to Astral was wasted...

I hate paying taxes! Why must I pay thousands of dollars in taxes when everything I buy is taxed anyways!
The new mount system requires a combo of 5 epic and legendary mounts to get the best insignia bonuses. Most players are lucky to have one epic mount that is account-wide. I see people riding green and blue event mounts because they can't afford an epic mount. I think all of the event mounts should be epic since we can no longer upgrade them. New players will suffer the most, they usually try to save up for one account-wide mount, now they need 5. We need legendaries in the TB store and Zen Market, and epic ones from events ASAP.
Pretty much all the good bonuses from insignias on are blue mounts too. I'd rather see them drop the price on the blue mounts. Shouldn't be 2500 zen for a blue mount regardless as to how good it will be with the new mod.
dummies the best insignia bonus's are also available on blue mounts ... just limited to one option on blues
The Water Horse is the only event blue mount. Insignias are not the only issue, speed and stat bonuses matter as well. As far as I know, the Ardent Coin blues just have a movement bonus.
No one said that they had to make them available for free. This is just another grind they're adding that you don't really even need. At ~1.5m an account wide unlock for an epic mount is still going to be one of the best values for an upgrade.

When Epic was the standard, greens and a blue from events was okay. Now that the standard is Legendary, having green and blue mounts from events seems out of whack. The event ones need to be blue and epic, removing the greens. The greens were able to be upgraded before, but are now stuck at green.
Legendary is far from standard. For 90% of the people in the game it's something they'll never bother with.
Even if one dropped from a lockbox for me I'd sell it in a heartbeat.
Event mounts are pretty much transmutes at this point too. That's why you see pigs going for 120k.
