HR is class of pros and cons, really. However devs like to mess up with the mechanics of the class, so it might end up risky and expensive to main it. Tho, this class brings some fun. If you like living on the edge, it's your best choice .

Its a really fun class, totally viable in pve if trapper.. A joke in pvp. If that is where you are aiming to play it, the answer is not. You better move the gear you can move on alt you like and play it.
Right now gf/gwfs are the most broken, paladin is not a class, tr can be really cheesy but no more than a 1 trick pony. Still annoying and viable. Sw seems is a good spot with healing 3x times stronger than pre nerf wild medicine (i will never get it).
depends how you want to play a class. in terms of damage yes is a joke i agree. IF another player say this : i will make a trapper to play a support role trap-lock my enemies so that way i will help my team finish them easier then is top to do that. THE same is for all classes paragon and trees.

Hi! I've been playing HR as my main ... forever. I've taken breaks from the game (most recently for about a year). I play pathfinder archer tree, and focus mainly on taking advantage of necrosis and lifesteal; Maybe I'm doing it totally wrong, IDK, but it's super fun for me to play. I've never liked trapper. I'm sure it's the new great meta, but I really don't care. Look at all the feats trees and figure out what works /for you/. It's a _stupid_ fun class. I'm at 1.6k, and by no means running BiS anything. I haven't gotten to the L70 dominions yet, but after coming back and having _ZERO_ clue about what I was doing, I managed to snag the top spot on my first match back. :]
I can't kill OP - just go and do something else if you run into them. I can kill GWF if I maintain distance, but it's a very tricky balance. You have to have MR/ME, and preferably set it up so that another enemy is distanced for you to MR to. GF are hard and take forever, but are doable. CW melt me, but are squishy if you can avoid their CC locks. TR's will break your face, but they're not as bad as I remembered them being. SW's are free kills. Other HR's seem to be rocking trapper builds a lot, and I walk all over them by tabflipping.
People get caught up in whatever's meta. My best advice is to play around with what works and what's fun _for you_. Some matches you'll clean up and feel like God's gift to 5v5, other matches you'll watch your K/D ratio plummet like the '08 housing market. Be flexible. The class is /very/ flexible, if you build it right. My main job (as I see it) is to be support DPS; with ME/MR, you're gonna pop into combat on a cap, hit the eject button and do your best to draw people off of it. If they ignore you (because you're a 'trash class'), then it's time to unload.
What's most fun for me is that it is the absolute most twitchy class I've ever played on any MMO. You are all over the place in combat, and every misstep you make will cost you. It's not an easy class to play. It is the absolute most fun, though, once you figure out the mechanics. I love being able to waltz across a cap with 4-5 people on it and go on doing my business (MR to the furthest person, rotate cam and ME away, pop ghost and run to your nearest health pot) while they chase me down. Know that when you get into 1v1s, you're going to be reeeeeeally short on burst damage. The only time you should be standing still as an HR is the odd moment when you're chaining to max crit and fire a snipe shot, or when all those melee nerds are standing on a cap and you're picking them off because they aren't paying attention to you. Also remember that you can hit single shot+encounters at the same time. Grab you a soulforged and stick it in your chest; I've come back from the dead and rocked people so many times (soulforge pops, hit your ME eject button and drop a stun, then rack up lifesteal/necrotic).
Are you gonna be a PvP rockstar? No. Are you going to have a metric ton of fun, win or lose? Yes.

From my perspective... They root and vanish... pair that with Smoke bomb and you have dead folks everytime
