Hehe, I was wondering the same when I saw that post :-)

The poster provided the actual proof to contradict what he was saying.

It's events such as this that I think make us think twice about logging back into the game. Quite disappointing. Those items were the only ones worth spending Bars on. They might as well remove the Tarmalune stuff altogether. I now have a few thousand bars with nothing to spend it on. I'm very puzzled at such an anti-customer action.

Ahh actually that shows a steady linear drop from the beginning to present. Thats with new content and mods coming online. You realize that new content is supposed to increase demand for a game right?

Ther eason they did the low price was they were trying to hide the fact that Underdark was a complete and utter failure.

Who says it was a failure? I rather enjoyed the mod for a while (though it's not enough content to last until the next module). Steam charts shows a pretty steady user base over the last 3 months (and more-or-less over the last 9 months).

Easy to make wild generalizations. Where are the facts?

Since no one else will say it I guess I will.

The 800 lb Gorilla in the room is The Cryptic Response to low ZEN Sales is always "Take this away from the player base" instead of "Hey Guys! Lets produce new Zen Store Items people want to pay for!" The reason given is always "balancing the economy" even when its not applicable and laughable. Why is that ?

Personally this really doesn't affect most of the power gamers. Who it hurts is the casual gamer person who now will find those top tier armor and weapon enchants even more out of reach of the little guy.

Im going to get so rich after this patch, got so lucky i managed to buy 10 million worth of this before price raised, im not doing anymore crappy missions in this game, from now on, i do just what i want, ty cryptic, you just made me a ingame millionaire <3</p>

of course you have to have fellow players to actually buy stuff from you though =P
dont worry, im a impacient person, when you see a coalescent ward selling for 10k less than the next, it's probably mine, so im not being that mean right?
I would appreciate you to not read my signature, now that you did, dont do it again.

Someone important in cryptic MUST think this game is the only one out there. They must think that compulsion and necessity draw gamers from all over the globe to spend $170 in coalescent wards to build a single weapon/armor enhancement to transcendent ($10/coalescent ward in the zen market). They must wake up in their 5000+ square ft. houses, get in their porches to go to work, and inbetween lines of whatever luxury that travels up their noses think how dreadfully cheap and whiny their customers are.

I don't really think I'm adding much to the already 12 to 13 pages of outrage this change has already inspired. But let this be my drop in the bucket. I came here because I loved the combat style. It was a change of pace from some of the other MMO's. And I put in a fair amount of money..., more so that I have or have needed to in ANY OTHER GAME for the priveledge of getting 2 characters to an item level of 2800. The reason I spent the money and time (but mostly MONEY) to do this was because your pve content (especially the new demon content) requires I be AT LEAST at a 2500 Item Level. This item level isn't arbitrary either. In order for me to be even remotely viable to join almost any dungeon, 2500 Item level truly is the minimum necessary to be a contributing member in ANY of your epic content. Elsewise no pickup group would have me. The point being is that to play the content, I somehow have to magically obtain the gear I require from the dungeons that contain the gear I need to play them.

Ah but here's where you caviat: "Not true, if you build up your enchantments, companions, weapon/armor enhancements to a superior level you can enter those dungeons and be perfectly and legitimately useful to a party."

To which I say, HAMSTER you, I don't have the near $1000 it will now cost to build a single character into a useful and contributing member of a party.

So, it seems you are no longer interested in obtaining revenue from the middle class. Here's MY counter. I know a great deal of games (some with similar combat engines) that will not only have my business, but currently charge less for their privilege to have it. So tell Perfect World, or whichever paymaster owns your short and curlies that the working man has left the server. In fact, I'll go one further.

    I AM CALLING A BOYCOTT.

    You are WRONG
    Yes, 2500 Is preferable
But I am doing excellent on dc with ap gain who is 2200 TIL.
And I did all dungeons with OP at 2000 til
Support classes can have lower then 2500 and stil do well.
    THE SKILL is that matters

How was this a good idea? Now people who were struggling to play before you did this are gonna quit. If you are so worried about losing money your doing a HAMSTER poor job of keeping it. To keep money flowing in you kind of need players for that to happen and you are most likely going to lose a lot of players after this.

  • Others have already said what is wrong with this change so I won't repeat it. I have played this game daily over the past several months and have spent more money on it than should have-- months of VIP plus a few other moments of weakness when I bought some extra keys. I was just starting to feel like my investment in this game was paying off-- my toons were advancing at a slow and steady pace, and the trade bar coal wards gave me a reasonable system for upgrading my gear. Removing the coal wards from the trade bar store removes a significant incentive for VIP, especially as my toons no longer need anything else in the store or the other enchanted key loot. I have 7 days of VIP remaining. I will not renew VIP again.

I am not screaming "BOYCOTT." This is what I am going to do. I will log on over the next week just to get the keys I am owed, but will not play the game. I will give this game a rest. Maybe I will return to it at some point, maybe not. I'm disappointed with this change, and so are a lot of players, and being annoyed and playing with a pissed off community is not my idea of a good time.

I paid 50 dollars for Guild Wars II awhile back and my account is active in that game. I'm going to back to GW, might even pay the additional 50 for their expansion. See, here's the thing: with GW, you pay for the game up front and you get all of the game content. It costs more up front, but the cost is honest. With NW, it's the opposite. It costs nothing up front, but the game is designed to entice players to pay and continue to pay down the line. It's starting to feel like it's just not worth it.

I agree with what you said however were talking cryptic, now i play NWO and STO and on both games the dev teams have shown total disregard and utter contempt for its players.

So they dont care if players leave or not, they only look at the metrics of how many people log on during the day, were not people to them , were numbers.

The game would have done better if there wasn't all the BS on the zen store. Part of the old team should have focused on new shiny things to add to it to make you look shiny, not progress. Even the forums could have helped them cook up ideas. There are a ton of games generating revenue just off of cosmetic micro transactions. It's not some illusion, people buy these things when they're priced modestly.

And this is DnD. Your character is the most important aspect in the DnD universe. The game just turned more and more into being about upgrading gear and had to start depending on it because that's the only thing there is to the game now.

Good lord people, no one forces you to spend a single penny on this game. Get over yourselves.

For those of you who have been playing "this game daily over the past several months [with characters] advancing at a slow and steady pace..." I just have to laugh. You could invoke from level 20 to level 60 in a couple of weeks and never leave Protector's Enclave.

This is a free to play game. The people who provide this game need to be paid. Stop whining, go play something else, or just don't spend the money.

You want to talk about really caustic disregard for paying customers, go look at SWTOR or any game by SONY. Cryptic/PWI have done well by me for over ten years and while I do not like most of the changes they've made it is THEIR product, they own it. We just rent it.

    It is a game people.

Right. And changing the TOS on the people who just, guess what, PAID, Cryptic and had this pulled on them have every right to be pissed, and if there were any other market, would be entitled to demand a refund for material breach of contract.

So you killed a potential source of revenue before it gets started.

    1) people need wards but needed Trade Bars to buy them
    2) people needed keys to open boxes to get trade bars
    3) the best source of keys is the VIP program
    4) people buy the VIP to get keys but they become accustom to the extras.
    5) steady income

You just killed this! You should have removed these items from the Zen market. This would have increased sales in keys and the VIP program where you probably would have made more money. I have never bought wards for the Zen market.

You also have totally blew your work on AD balance.
  • sasagerusasageru Member Posts: 269 Arc User
So this is my view of this.

You pay for keys to open lockboxes, if you get HAMSTER which 99% of the time is the case, you at least get a handfull of the tradebars which you know over time, you can use for something reasonable - like a coal ward which we all need. Or a ruby for some RP which again we all need, or some preservation wards which again, we all really need.

So, say people who didn't need wards/rp, who then bought these items sold them. The general demand is and always will be bigger than their supply, prices are higher than they should seemingly be valued at - so a few people by this method make some decent money. Thats not instability, thats called supply and demand. Removing them, forced their prices up, which forces the value of AD down in comparison.

Now, lets take the real cause of the markets instability - botters. They bot for enchantments, or RP items or just gold sometimes. They sell it (or items they trade it for)at severely lowered prices because the demand is lower than the supply as a result of the bots - but is still reasonable enough that people will buy it up quick. The botters profit, those profits more often than not go to third party websites who we see spammed left right and center in chat. Meanwhile, they're destabilising the in game market and on the outside, people see the ads think 'oh easy money at better value', buy into it and essentially take away money from neverwinter.

What this change is doing, is aiding botters who are totally unaffected by this change, whilst penalising your paying members. Removing them completely is a big warning flag to me - you have other options, make them bound, limit their quanitity per person, whatever. Instead you remove them altogether, so the only place you can now get them are from people who hoarded them previously, or from the zen store. Sounds like a good plan to get people spending right?

So, in relation taking just coal wards as the exmple, this will actually further destablise the market and is equally pissing off your player base.

This is, as everything has been lately with neverwinter, entirely fuelled by greed - neverwinter isn't making enough money, so hey, lets remove things that people need and make them pay cash instead. Meanwhile lets deliver sub-par teaser content to keep the masses interested and to attract new paying members (whom are argueably alongside PVP'ers the money spinners for most games).

Y'know, now i'm just ranting, but seriously, this change just cumulates many other bad decisions Neverwinter has made recently. I've stopped spending, have no further plan to spend and I'm spending more time on other games with better development and understanding of their player base who will also get the money I might've normally spent on NW.

And BTW, strumslinger, I know you're just the sacrificial messenger for these posts and this isnt being aimed at you in anyway, I'm just totally frustrated and at this point actually angry at how the game is changing lately.

I wonder how many wards you would have to do for a 1%, This is the only real user for a CW, so this change means new characters don't get armor/weapon enhancements until they GRIND for ad forever.

The problem with your statement is that they could have making money hand over fist if they had the common sense to put character appearance change options (weapons, armor, and physical appearance), mount customization options, similar options for Strongholds, and etc into the Zen store with price points beginning at $1.00 for a single item upwards to $50+ for large packs of changes. They would have been better served by seeking a higher volume of small transactions instead of a moderate volume of moderate to higher priced transactions for items that are basically part of the "pay to win" problem that you see in too many F2P games. There are are near limitless options that can be created and will be eagerly purchased by the many MMO players who crave as much customization of characters as possible.

I do not know if this is because Game Managers/Developers do not have the common sense to see where the easy money can be made, due to the lack of coding ability of the people hired for that job, or a combination of the 2.

Sad to see this happen as I had been considering re-downloading the game. C' est la Vie!

I don't understand the logic of this decision at all. You move coal wards to Zen store so people will pay money for them. We're ALREADY paying money for them via tarmalune bars earned through PAID VIP!!!

This is ridiculous. Just ridiculous. Tarmalune bars to earn coal wards so I could upgrade to Legendary and Mythic was the most attractive and useful benefit of VIP and the ONLY thing REALLY worth purchasing from the Tarmalune Bar!!! How many people are going to stop paying VIP because of this? Talk about burning a dollar to earn a nickel!!!
