Why armor is upgraded in black ice profession instead of armor crafting ones, imho its wrong that some failed profession from 4 mods ago is still needed to upgrade gear when you have armor specific professions, just let that black ice bs die like it should.

I see what you're saying though. I leveled weapon and plate-smithing to 20 but they're both useless and have been.
But bottom line, the craft system never scaled, lost it's relevance when artifact gear came on the scene, and jewelry will be useless when artifact rings come out. Dragon egg prices are killing tailoring with that 60% max success rate with 4 ultra expensive purple assets. I assume everything will be an artifact at this rate. It's too lucrative a RL cash sink to not add more.
Alchemy is semi-relevant but unified elements are tanking, potions that cost an aggregate per pot are just LOL useless at lv25 crafting.
Having to develop BI crafting to get best armor is one more step in a characters development.
Ultimately characters staying in game longer gives more income opportunities for Cryptic. But let me remind you: Operating this game takes a lot of money. Cryptic is a business and not a charity. That they want to make money is legit, and certainly a number of the design decisions are made in order to increase revenue. There is nothing wrong about that.
Just be happy the game after all is so good even if you play completely free-to-play.
If it added an extra enchantment slot, even extra utility slots, that would be something.
If you want completely maxed out eq, then ok, go for it, but really, I don't think this is something necessary to focus on.
I don't see the issues with keeping IWD relevant. IMO, IWD was much nicer then anything that came after it. Like banaanc said though, it's mostly a ghost town now, so doing really fun group-stuff like BI Beholders is a lost cause. IWD can also be a bit painful for newer players that are running solo.
I agree with the OP. IWD is a terrible zone. It's not worth farming the boons on new characters. From what I've seen, it's not even worth it to empower the new gear.
You gain something like a few hundred hp and a 10 or something points in a few stats per piece of gear for a huge cost. The elemental alliance set drops directly from T2 as well, who bothers with those? They're not even BoE.
