Possible for a moderator to describe bug fix steps

bmeanbmean Member Posts: 114 Arc User
Just curious if a moderator would list (at least sum up) the process needed to fix a bug. Maybe this would help people understand the process and why things are the way they are. If not then go ahead and close this thread (I know there are policys you have to follow)
my aim is for less junk on the fourms with people complaining. It's a shot in the dark though.

    Hey bmean!
Luckily, I was once a QA Lead for Neverwinter for a bit. Things may have changed - and probably have - but here's the gist of it. I won't go into specifics for obvious reasons.

    1) Players, CMs, Moderators and Devs themselves get wind of bugs through a variety of ways. In this case, we'll say the bug is submitted in the forums and it's been getting a lot of attention from players.
    2) Either my moderators or I see this and bring this up to the developers with as much information as possible. The "as much information as possible" is important as it significantly increases our ability to reproduce it. Many a time, we see that something is broken, but nothing else.
    3) Once the devs see the bug, they prioritize them and send them off to QA to reproduce.
    4) Once, and if, QA is able to reproduce, they let the devs know.
    5) Code is fixed, implemented, etc.
    6) QA needs to confirm the fix.
    7) Pushed to Preview.

There are a lot of mini-steps in between, but as you can see, it's not as simple as just developers seeing a bug and fixing it in the blink of an eye.

    I hope this helps!

Thank you! This was honestly maybe a way to help the moderators as well. Hopefully the neverwinter community sees this and gains some understanding that's bugs take time. I know bugs can be annoying, but I'm okay with the wait because I do, thinkfully, have some knowledge of programming.
It was a great question for sure. We were chatting about this internally and felt it best to see if Andy would reply since he has a specific skill-set.. oh wait that's a movie... in any-case, he was more than happy to reply! Thanks, Andy!

I'd like to add that these steps were mainly for PC. Xbox is slightly different, but I'll get back to you on this.
