Do you think it's right for them to be closing all the threads discussing the upcoming changes?

Legitimate moderation? Censorship? Discuss.

So I decided to do this right... and PM'd a moderator about my improperly closed thread. In the meanwhile, let's discuss them closing all the threads about the new Vote-to-Kick changes. Do you think they are just trying to be organized, or are the trying to censor the outrage? Do you think it's right for them to close these threads, or should everyone have a platform for their specific ideas? Discuss!

I personally think they are just trying to discourage the negative feedback and are not closing the threads for any constructive reason. What do you think?

Moving all posts into one thread is what they should have done. Not close them.

From a quality perspective it does make sense There are 100's of posts made daily to the forum and no one or two people could keep up with it unless that was their sole job. If the company doesn't have a dedicated team keeping tabs on the forum then the only way to know what is being talked about is to ensure everything is addressed in one easy to locate and easy to read location. I don't think closing them is necessary per say but I do agree that they should be moved to the current VTK main thread in the event that a new thread is started. People have a hard time believing that they do read the forums and even if they did it wouldn't matter if there were 50 new threads a day to try and find.

That would have been better. You're probably right @strictlyevil - I'm just pissed they closed my thread as I put a lot of thought into it and the one they elected as the "official" thread for this topic was just a single sentence saying they dislike the changes. :-P

If everyone created a separate thread for the same problem, there we would end up having 1000 threads with "I hate new fix" so they are doing the right thing. However, moving posts to new one would have been a better solution.

Or MAYBE take notice of those thousands of threads complaining and do something about the complaint not just delete it as if theres nothing to see here!

But if they close and delete all the duplicate threads there isnt an actual issue right. Right? I agree that forums used to be a place to speak freely about your thoughts but the times we live in now, everything is political and everyone wants you to voice your opinions as long as they are the same as theirs. And heaven forbid if you say anything negative about thee company. Freedom of speech is not free any longer and it will only get worse as time goes on.

Freedom of speech doesn't pertain to a scenario where you are under an agreement with someone. This property is owned by Perfect world and in order to speak on here you had to agree to their terms and conditions. It's always been like this so it isn't like freedom of speech has been taken away from anyone. It's not like you can walk into a bank with a gun in the air screaming give me all your money and then say you're just expressing your 2nd amendment rights. The bank is allowed to ban you from their property all they want even if you're found innocent.

At present, we do not have the ability to merge threads or posts. Regardless, it has never been acceptable to create multiple topics on the same thing.

Furthermore, discussing moderation on the forums is not allowed. Please do read the Rules of Conduct folks. If one would notice in each of those threads I closed on VTK Issue, I provided a link to the active thread for discussing them.

Lastly, freedom of speech has no bearing on private property. By using this service, you agree and become bound to the Terms of Service, Rules of Conduct, and EULA of said service. In any case, it has nothing to do with negative comments. If one would just take a couple minutes to look at the forums, there are negative comments everywhere. What some people don't seem to understand is that while you can post negative feedback, you may not be a jerk, rude, or insolent about it. That's the key.

Everytime I hear someone say anything along like lines of us deleting negative feedback... I ask myself each time, "Are these people actually reading the forums? There's negative comments everywhere."

Just noticed your messages - You sent them as Comments, not PMs. Please use the Private Message system to discuss such in the future. Also, you should contact us all at once instead. If you sent it to only one of us, you should add the rest of the team to the conversation: strumslinger, ambisinisterr, lewstelamon01, yetweallfalldown, and zebular. This way you're not having to wait for a single one of us to be available. We all share PMs anyway when we get to them individually.
