"I think we're kind of passed the point of forced teaming" - Jackalope, February 2008 // Five page of Gameinformer Game was meant to be solo-able. So, in fact I say get rid of "On Alert!" stuff altogether. Best QoL is to remove the cancerous content.
Defender's National Training Program, which is the event that is this: Create a new character after _____, and get that character to level 40 before _______.
Just for a thought experiment... can you look at Neverwinter's Warlock? Warlock Lv1 - Lv10 --> Foundational Water Projector Hellbringer Lv11 - Lv20 --> The Surge Soulweaver Lv11 - Lv20 --> The Spout Low-detail explanation for Neverwinter ideally being the base. Given the below Neverwinter is more accurate to the Champions…
Radiation Powers happens to be one of the powers in Until Superpowers Database 5th from April 2003 and Champions Powers 6th from March 2010. Infernal Blast => Radiation Blast, rather than Gamma Blast Epidemic => Radioactive Zone, rather than Radioactive Pulse Defile => Deadly Radiation, rather than Nuclear Overload…
If we are increasing the scope of patches covered, there are a lot worse patches. Where most of the bad patches have largely outweighed any good patches. Personally, all the big change patches beyond Sept 1st patch/Daeke and Launch Day Special(Sept. 1st full text)/Chronomancer. Have been somewhat against the trend of…
It's part of the charm of Cryptic Studios. The definition of "Cryptic"; Merriam-Webster: "having or seeming to have a hidden or ambiguous meaning" Cambridge: "mysterious and difficult to understand" Dictionary: "mysterious in meaning; puzzling; ambiguous" Cryptic patch notes, cryptic game design decisions, cryptic etc. The…
City of Heroes is technically the only true Superhero MMORPG. DCUO/CO is part of the Superhero Micro-MMORPGs which has phases/instances. The general basis categories of MMOs based on Social/Combat Zones: True MMORPG = More than or at least 200 player capacity in social zones. Similar or lower player cap in open world…
+1, also add "Al the Alligator Man" from Vibora Bay's San Sebastien Swamp from Champions Universe(First printing May 2010, DOJHERO1102): "Another unusual resident of the Swamp is Al, the Alligator Man, the victim of an unscrupulous ARGENT experiment to create superhuman soldiers by mingling the DNA of humans and animals…
Isn't the Arc Games Terms of Service basically temporary? With this being Arc Games as Publisher ToS: https://www.arcgames.com/en/about/terms While we are actually going to be under DECA Games as Publisher ToS sooner than later: "DECA Games has divested a few minor games, to free up resources to power live service…
Questionite is not a casual currency. It is a hardcore currency. Casual players want the monetization of least resistance. As well as not to be compulsed into a tedious/monotonous work habit. Sims 3 = $19.99 Base => $379.81 of DLC Sims 4 = Free Base => $1,244.20 of DLC Imagine Sims 5 having a play-2-earn currency. Where…
In a perfect world, we wouldn't be discussing Questionite or Zen. Instead, we would only have the Cryptic Store and Cryptic Points. In this case, the only problematic purchase was the Full Retcon. It went downhill with the Atari Tokens. Then, further downhill with Zen. Which exploded with lockbox and questionite doomed…
DECA Games MTX+Studio heads do seem to be looking/leaning towards healthy GaaS systems. Questionite / Zen markets need to be erased not saved. - Legal reasons => eventual based health/ethical/moral bans - Ethical/moral reasons => it is a blemish to have these monetization schemes targeting easily manipulated, compulsive…
This is actually the Event Tokens and Drifter Salvage in regards to Gacha. Questionite is only exclusive to MMO Play-2-Earn games (ex: Entropia Universe, eqv. PED=Questionite and Zen=USD). By using Zen, PWE/Arc Games can avoid the real money gambling aka the NBA 2k loophole. With this change of publisher HQs: Redwood City,…
Official start of Water requests August 2009: October 2009: https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/championsonline#/discussion/comment/1095829 so on till the crashing waves of other games happened. Which just increased the water suggestions. Added Water powers in other Superhero games: Water Blast was added in an update (July…
You can but we'll probably wait till the grave for its implementation. However, Water&Steam/Acid&Chemical - Energy Projector powers, are unlikely to have time for Cryptic Studios to implement it. As Champions Online/Star Trek Online/Neverwinter is going to DECA Games by end of 2024 to sometime 2025. Neverwinter #1 Cryptic…
Do not conform to Cryptic Studios arbitrary vision. Especially when they state: "Be the Hero You Want To Be" -> "The flexible character creation system gives you total control over your hero’s abilities." "Your Powers, Your Terms: There is a multitude of astonishing powers to choose from and the flexible character creation…
I would actually wait and see what DECA's roadmap is for Champions Online. Their listed positions to hire for PC/Console seems to diverse for maintaining Champions as is. I see them reducing available action power slots not increasing them. As they shift the game towards more Action RPG. Animator/VFX/Concept Artist/etc…
Perfect World Entertainment and Gearbox Publishing largely operated the same. With a focus on newer IP and letting Cryptic run Champions Online independently. In turn, it was unlikely that PWE/GBP would fund an overhaul. DECA Games however is operating completely differently. Where Champions Online will be a focused…
Well, only partially leaning on how Champions RPG works on the surface. The RPG is a point-progression system and Champions Online is a level-progression system. So, there were going to be changes. It was never going to be 1:1: "We are using systems that are essentially the same, but fit the MMORPG genre somewhat better.…
I am still of the opinion that the frameworks shouldn't have a theme. It would be really convenient to be able to take a basic mechanic power and flavor it myself. Frenzy/Shred -> Replace the Slashing+Bleed => With Fire+Clinging Flames, Ice+Chilled, Electric+Negative Ions, Dimensional+Fear, Magic+Mystified/Hexed/Jinxed,…
Freeform is bad because it is paired with archetypes. If the archetypes didn't exist it wouldn't be bad. However, the archetypes do exist and have controlled the powers we got. As well as the optimal usage of those powers. The opposite is also true, because Freefrom exists, archetypes can't be as good as they can be. The…
This is actually pretty common across games with instants, alerts, random dungeons, etc Time chatting/socializing is time wasted from getting to the next easy event. Even, if there is a mob-gate it doesn't really stop a peak threat META tank from gathering all mobs. Then, solo'ing the whole alert by themselves only needing…
This is par the course for Fantasy MMOs. The QoL aspect is generally showcasing "Difficulty" for expected skill needed to negate design. As far as I can find the low Difficulty meta is: The Behemoth The Soldier The Mind Melee DPS lowest diff is premium'd. Anything else has a higher difficulty. "Fit into only one of these…
Ultimately, the game is built for archetypes do to its world of warcraft(Early)/perfect world(Current) clone nature. ATs gets rid of the trial and error waste of time from constantly correcting a build. Especially, when most of the easy-to-do META cosmic/lair builds are just F2P ATs. ~~~~ The freeform slot is hot garbage…
However, this can easily be explained off in a multiple of ways: Using these and some other stuff in regards to cybernetics and fantasy stuff: "Mystic Gadgeteer: This character functions similarly to a Techie Gadgeteer, but his devices are magical in nature, and he’s usually an Occultist rather than some kind of…
I've been on and off since 2009, the game has yet to get good in gameplay. Whereas the way powers are implemented are boring, lackluster, uninspired. Which is why, I don't think anything of that will ever be actively targeted. We never got anything of true major significance post-F2P. Most of that content was already being…
The game has to lean heavy into PvP. If it doesn't fulfill that, then I don't ever play its PvP content. As well as if I am going for PvP. It needs to be close to the games I played as a wee-lad for a long time. My first PvP-focused games with big play times were Battlefield 1942, Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, Call of…
The whole game probably needs to go through rebalancing/reworking not just the end game component. 1. Realize that the Superheroic setting implies some level of hybrid-ness. The RPG can have "the Impulse" have no-END-cost-to-maintain toggles aka passives of Kinetic Manipulation(Offensive), Personal Force Field(Defensive),…
With the Champions RPG, they aren't subsets, just closely related powers: "Force powers are closely associated with Energy Manipulation Powers, Kinetic Energy Powers, and Telekinetic Powers in many cases." - Champions Powers "Gravity powers are often closely related to Density Alteration, Force, and Telekinetic powers." -…
I also technically survived. I have been playing on and off since for sure August 2009, and been a member since: 09/10/2008. Champions Online is still my most played game. At some level, I enjoy it, but it has a bunch of quit moments. However, I am not going to defend a game that faltered at launch and thus regressed from…
My main point proven. That no one here will care about a major in-depth retrospective/review/analysis. Even if lets say Josh went through every Nemesis, every Cosmic, every Lair, every Adventure, every Comic, every Serial, every Alert, every Event, etc. The sheer grating force of the toxic game design/flow, would probably…
Freeform is the main feature?! Here is some old freeform reviews: This doesn't seem to be a main feature, but more of a main limitation... For Example in MATTERS review at 7:08+: "My favorite thing in the game honestly is just building a character not even playing the game." Back on Josh Strife Hayes, he talked about…
I doubt the JSH will do a complete playthrough like he did with Otherland or even a retrospective. That is expecting a lot for this game. Of that, only NerdSlayer is close to being in-depth on publishers side. MitchManix goes further in gameplay. imho, Gameplay-wise it has only gotten worse from:…
I feel the freeform as the heart of the game is sort of wrong. Someone could probably do a deep-dive that Champions RPG thus Champions Online is actually hoisted up by Templates/Package Deals/Archetypes. Thus not throwing new players into an inferno with BUILD from SCRATCH YOU NEWB SCRUB! Ask Cryptic - May 2, 2008:…
I stopped playing actively after the retail/day one nerf patch. I come in every three to six months to play. Only, to realize the game has gotten less fun every time. Closed Beta, best time. Early Start, okay time. Retail onwards failtopia. *Devs actually played Villains. <-- loved these events but they died off pretty…
The game was fun then it de-escalated quite quickly to tedious, boring, and unrefundable. (I'm pretty sure if Bill Roper didn't lock his Wells Fargo account, I would have refunded.) I should have known when Mythos and Hellgate went down, that every other game he touched would be seeded with his evil. That is a console game…
It doesn't have freeform nor anything resembling the customization from Neverwinter Nights 1 or Neverwinter Nights 2. I really expected Cryptic of all developers to be able to follow Bioware's and Obsidian's foot steps in making a Neverwinter game. What Neverwinter has over Champions Online: Graphics- *Effects looks…
I want a Neverwinter level of overhauling on Champion's Online. I want that Action RPG gameplay in this Fake Action RPG gameplay. http://co.perfectworld.com/about/main Once, you play Neverwinter, you will know this is false advertisement.
It doesn't show the damage increase. I think this has been an issue ever since the beginning of CO. Intelligence is suppose to also increase pet damage but it doesn't show it. It does increase damage the rock familiar for me currently shows 35 damage with the normal attacks but it does 50-80 damage with 100-120 critical.
