Defence will be an interesting one, with warden/vindicator you can get resistance fairly high while also increasing offence. I have no idea if they are adding these offence changes now or later, they didn't mention it'.
I can totally understand you, and it's why I sometimes say the freeform system is just an illusion, but it's honestly because theres no crowd control/solid buff other powers/debuff mob powers. The nerf, I do disagree with it, and I certainly feel for you. I'd already had adjustments to my builds, some I may not implement, since i'm not even relying on some aspects atm, but I always have a "backup plan" for every toon in CO.
The real problem I have, is the lack of playstyles supported. Which I think is the real imbalance in this game. I wouldn't be put off by the vocal minority, though I feel they did win a "victory" here, annoys me extremely. Because I feel they'll push for more nerfs to "depower" people doing well, these scrubs, they get jealous of those who do well, or we have a stop having fun guy who wants others not using the same strategy as them to be nerfed further.
Understand, to me, it appears a majority here didn't support the nerf to dodge and it was still implemented, many of us even offered alternatives, I even offered a compromise that actually encouraged variety and increased flexibility while still toning down dodge so it wasn't so overpowered like it was(I did agree it was op, but no where near as much as people said it was, cause my experience, it wasn't.)
But I asked multiple times, for the devs to implement newer buffs/debuffs/crowd control. Perhaps the gear change will allow them to implement dodge/avoidance buffs that help teammates like I asked? And other changes to make support a real force to be reckoned with, rather than a passive, worthless heal-bot that is entirely skippable in teams for freeforms(which is a good thing, the holy trinity needs to die, this is 2013, and gamers know mmo's with the holy trinity are unoriginal wow clones). Let support do more than just healing.
We need variety of playstyles, not just all mage-tanks. Even a damage role pretty much plays the same as a tank role, nearly, the only difference tends to be advantages used; a tank may use a cripple challenge and challenge strikes, a damage won't use those, thats really all there is. Damage players still use self heals, and still turtle while pounding the mobs, tanks do it to, only intending to hold agro besides just doing damage.
But the holy trinity, is also not variety. Make no illusion of thinking someone sitting back doing NOTHING BUT HEALING being forced on everyone would increase "variety" in teams. Holy trinity teams tend to be identical. If the devs would add buffs to increase players dodge ratings, so we had more damage mitigating buffs that were scalable like aura of radiant protection that protected. If we had better crowd control and had better debuffs, we'd see far, far more variety in teams, at least 10-50 fold over a holy trinity or a bunch of mage-tanks. 2 viable configurations in teams doesn't come close to every team being different. Which is what city of heroes excelled at, no one team was alike, like they tend to be in this game .
Edit: I will note, 90% of my portovers from CoX have NOT been able to be built in my image in this game. Because the powersets are either not good reflections, underpowered to severely(they are weaker in this game than in CoX by far imo), or theres nothing in theme at all. My main, even, is a TIME MANIPULATOR. She manipulates and controls time and physics. Nothing in this game really reflects it correctly nore reflects how she actually operated in actual combat. CO's version of her is a tank, but CoX's version was a corruptor that made entire teams far, far more powerful.
You know what I agree with this guy 100% >_> And the trinity comments are spot on as a long time WoW player I can tell you that trinity play is slowly killing it.

CO isn't CoH. It never was.
It is an online game. Such games get changes, updates, nerfs, fixes, and so on.
The big change in this patch affects your toons greatly, since they heavy relied on the mechanic being changed. It happens, and has happened before, and will happen again.
If you can't handle a game in flux, like this, then online gaming probably isn't for you.

The question is: who was dumb enough to overrely to dodging. Only a fool trusts his character's life to a game mechanic that works on a gamble.
I was sleeping when that one post was made towards me about PVP, I've been in it before, I don't care for it, not my cup of tea. For those that enjoy that mess (I've played pvp in other games before, Champs needs a re-vamp, and while I have a idea of one way it could, no one would enjoy it, so I won't list it.) Anyway, my thoughts on the various changes coming up proper.
Vet Rewards: Well I don't have a LTS yet and maybe oned ay this'll mean something to me, otherwise, for those just now becoming LTS or will in the future, enjoy those little perks.
Retcon Token Giveaway: I only have one toon that this would apply towards I believe, but since I'm going to be getting gold status this friday, this will be nice for some experimenting.
Dodge/Avoid: I've been reading the posts, I've been talking to my friends who can make builds and who have been on the PTS... this really isn't that groundbreaking as many thought. Yeah ATs need some fixing, but only like... maybe 2 or 3. Otherwise, I am confident you guys will find new builds to break the game, you always do.
Drifter Store will have new vehicle from Store and Armadillo pieces: As a costume maker in this game... I will get those pieces!
Drifter salvage being able to be put into the account bank: Not bad, might start saving up G's and buying keys from the AH more often now than once in a blue moon.
Change Character Button: Wooooooooooooooooooooo *passes out*
It Boggles my Mind that I'm Unable to go Lifetimer right now
Avian Warrior Pack... why they don't want us to be Together? Noel needs you...
How Will I stand seeing more and more players with the Costume Set I want the most now... I'm gonna overflow with Jealously
So no chance of Creating a Different version of Avian pack for Z/Drifter/Questionite/Regognition Store for the players without Deep Pockets...?

Marvel Comics inspired the Champions PnP . Champions PnP inspired CoH. The "sequel" to CoH was going to be Marvel Universe Online. When Microsoft pulled out the game became Champions Online.
Of course CO is going to be compared to CoH. It always will be and any future Cryptic MMO will be too ( both STO and NW have been compared to CoH as well ).
Trying to stop this is like going to the beach and shouting at the tides to halt their nonsense. Comparing CO to CoH might be a dumb **** thing to do but there is reasons why people do, same company made them both being one.

Pretty much, but that goes for more people than just him. There are a whole lot of labels, namecalling, inaccuracies, assumptions, hyperbole, theorycrafting and stuff that's just been outright made up being thrown around here. Very very little putting the nose to the grindstone so to speak. Really wish people would stop attacking each other and those that feel the need to would just move on to things they enjoy. There aren't that many of us here at this point that any of the toxicity is needed.
I stopped playing CO like 2 years ago. It was a great game, but to me the total lack of interesting updates made me quit. I felt like cryptic completely forgot about it. The only new additions would be some short alerts that can be completed in 5-10 mins, and lockboxes and costumes (and vehicles) but nothing new that actually gave us something to do, new dungeons, new areas, new cap levels, NO FOUNDRY, etc.
Everyonce in a while I come back to the forums to see how are things doing around here and to check for interesting updates, and everytime I get disappointed again when seeing that things haven't changed at all. There's still basically no endgame but random pvp duels...
I get reay sad because I think CO had (and still has) amazing potential, but it looks lik teh devs don't care anymore about it.
I wish they would realize how much better they could make it, making new systems, new things to do, new areas, etc. Hell, if they would just add the foundry I would come back in no time, but they've already said that won't happen too.
So sad
Sure, use it as an example, I could have been more careful with typos though XD
But still what worse for me is to see the huge distance between what the game is and what the game could be.
Sometimes I wish they would just pull the plug on the game, and redoing it again, with cryptic0s new engine (which allows for the foundry) no ats/freeforms, a revamped graphical engine, and some other things that bug me a lot. But I doubt it will happen.
The one thing I am really not looking forward to is that my 40+ characters ALL have Heroic Avoidance gear with the dodge mod. Not looking forward to replacing all those defensive primaries that's for sure.
I felt CO could have been the better game, until the kitchen sink patch and making crafting useless with the catalyst nerf(long before on alert and the dreaded mod crafting system). After a year of CO from month one to month twelve of this game, I moved back, potential squandered as many have said. Thats why I will not go lifetimer, ever.
There was more than that.
CO's writing is god-awful. It's some of the worst crap I've ever seen passed off as a 'story'. Yes, I realize 'some people don't pay attention to it'. Fine, but some do. Just because people don't go dig in my couch cushions doesn't mean I can flip them up and drop a deuce under there. CoX actually had missions that flowed from one to the next, and then to the next contact.
Not to mention, having a Villain side made a lot of difference, as it gave a completely different half of the game to play with and different stuff to do.
CO doesn't let you be the hero you want to be, that is a lie. It allows you to look like the hero you want to be and be the hero Cryptic's Lazy writers think are in comic books.
CO's Freeform system is not a good thing. In the military, we say 'it briefs well'. In other words, it sounds good on paper. But it's one of the things with WAY too many imbalances once people figure it out.
CoX had a system that was simple. Your 'main' power tree and your 'other' power tree. I remembered playing a few different combinations, and for the most part the only drawback was the weapons switching, so that was what you avoided. While this seems 'restrictive', in retrospect and studying over it, it did a few things.
1- It kept things from being ridiculous. You didn't see the mishmash clown builds. You had an A and a B combo. If you couldn't get enough diversity out of that, you were wanting too much out of an MMORPG.
2- It kept roleplaying a bit more sane as well. Now, I didn't RP on there- but there was a bigger 'put up or shut up' culture because people either had a good working combo or they didn't- and it wasn't really hard to do. If you were claiming to be a 'god' or 'demon lord' and trying to RP one, some random martial artist/gadget combo guy could stomp your butt into the dirt (just an example, I don't remember how well it played. I liked the tomahawk axe thing and I forgot what else I used). CO's RP is blighted by 'RP PVPers' who log in to pick fights and 'settle it outside'.
3- It encouraged teaming. You couldn't fly through and solo everything because 'you had a good build'. Because of this, playing something other than CO's 'Tank' or 'DPS' roles (It's more duality here) was common. I remember seeing someone with a bunch of soldiers and a whip, I think- and I remember thinking that was kinda cool.
Other than that, I don't remember much. Someone else could probably expand more on it.
But to sit here and say that 'CO is a better game' is a matter of perspective. CO 'looks better', but people only lash out against CoX's archetypes and powers system because they can't make their unkillable uber god-toon and crush everything. Usually these types of players show why they have to make these types because of their elitist attitudes.
I basically agree with everything that cybersoldier said.
I think that complete FF is very unbalanced, unless it had mroe restrictions and/or skills were more balanced themselves.
From a logic point it doesn't make much sense to have random skills on our chars, most superheroes have some kind of theme to their powers, not one fire, one ice, one electric, one ninja, one demon, one magical, one with guns, etc.
I know many people love their FFs so I'm probably alone on this though.
CoX system looked pretty good to me, it was somewhat free but not completely free, but much more balanced. Too bad I couldn't stand the graphics in that game enough to play it more than 10 mins.
About the story and quests in CO, even though I know it was aimed more to be like those old suoperhero cartoons I still would have prefered something more serious (like DCUO) but I guess that's rather personal.
Seems the new update. made 5th inventory bags unavailable it shows now like I need to repurchase. when it already had it via veteran reward.
Anyone with an LTS able to log in and see if your vet rewards are functioning properly? Getting some reports of odd behavior including rewards vanishing for LTSes who had them already.
I have to wonder about the timing of the release. Part of me feels this was pushed out now in order to give more breathing room to the Fire and Ice alert since it was getting far less feedback while people discussed dodge.

Same here. Just got that 4th slot this last month. What worries me is the bag is gone and not in my inventory, which is likewise for everything I had in the bag, which in some cases were devices I had collected during the recent Bloodmoon. All my various characters were storing Bloodmoon items in that 4th bag that has gone poof.

I haven't seen any funny behavior with vet rewards I had already....
5th Bag slot now missing if you had it already including all its items.
Players reporting that bird heads are unlocked for them and they aren't even subbed.
I see the server is now closed for maintenance when I try logging back in, but I think you should boot everyone from the game for a rewind and to PROPERLY check IN GAME to see if everything is working properly.
New bug.
The last bag slot is suddenly not available anymore.
I really hope that can be fixed and that it didn't drop all the gear I had there. The last bag is where I keep all the devices, vehicles and other stuff I want to be able to swap in and out.

All characters created before October 24th 2013 have been given a Free Retcon: That's a lot of RetCons...
Items: Recognition tokens change: Yay for high-speed laziness!
The Drifter Store: The Drifter store now has Armadillo & Akema VTOL: meh.
You can now store Drifter Salvage in your Account Bank: Mid-level /shrug but appreciated.
UI: Added a Change Character button to the game menu that goes to the Character Select screen: Great if remembers the right account name.
Added a Sort button to the inventory and bank windows: Useful. Thanks.
