Well, it could be worse. They could have given something to nearly every MMO they operate except CO.

Judging from the replies, our "absolutely no reason to buy the pack" might be better than "I paid $200 and THAT was the best bonus you could think up?"

They probably had something planed for CO but then decided to release it later in game as new and exciting content.

I only really play STO and the items we get there from this pack will be useless after a couple of hours, as some have put it on the STO forums, this offer seems more aimed at getting NW players to look at other PWI/Cryptic games to try and bait them to spending in the other games.

    1. CO hasn't been forgotten, we just got Smackwell back apparently and I'm going out into deep water here and speculate that we'll start getting more love the more into final-phase they get NWO

    2. NWO is truly awesome.. I bought all 3 packs, it's a great game. Period. But that has no correlation to CO. beyond the fact that they share the same chat server which is really awesome to be able to talk to your friends in CO and STO while playing NWO.

    3. Don't lose faith yet.. they just came out with new FREE content. Generally a game that's foundering doesn't release FREE content.. Not that I've seen anyway.

    4. Fearmongering IS, however, a great way to kill a game.

I always wonder why people so often have this idea. Especially when a new game gets life they need all the devs for all the bugs that the new masses of player find after release. Then also there a soo many things that haven't been finished before release. And then there are of cause also players that have rushed through the game and cry for new content.

And also .. Smackwell ist just a normal player who got mod-status in the forums, thats all.

    1) Smackwell has always been here. As far as more love for CO, I can only hope.

    2) Your opinion of NW. Mine is: I'll never play the game after watching my brother play it when last he visited.

    3) I lost faith in anything productive for this game when vehicles were introduced and constantly "worked" on. Even with the addition of two missions where vehicles are "optional". Where's the story arcs? Where's the power balancing?

    4) I'm not fear mongering anything. I merely stated that it looks like CO is getting less and less love.

Not sure if others are getting the same advertisements I'm getting when I come to the forums, but the ad splashes "BECOME A HERO" across the screen.... then I realize it's for Neverwinter. If only there was another game where you could be a hero... a super hero. Maybe PW should make a super hero game?!?!?!

Now, now. For shame. Morbidly curious as to what TT can say about this.

At one point in time I used to be all like "we have to let our voices be heard so our game gets attention and development." Then I've seen it turn to "let our voices be heard so they don't shut down Champs."

My advice to folks is: purchasing currency for CO is not a sound investment at this juncture.

Well, on the other hand, looking at the relatively trivial reward given in STO (seriously, a LT ship and gear you're probably going to improve on in like your third or fourth mission?), I'd be hard-pressed to think of anything they could give you here that would be equivalently worthless. Even costume sets remain potentially useful far into the future! I suppose they could give you, say, a 1-hour XP boost and the four-shot Revive thing from the lvl-10 reward box, but is that going to really sweeten the pot for spending 200 bucks on a different F2P game?

Hell, no need to be morbid. We built an item out for this, but tech issues have prevented it from being included. We're working to get it added after the fact, but that may not be possible -- if not, we'll have a new item in reserve that we can make available in other means.

Sorry to say it but the explanation given sounds more like:

Never seen an MMO without tech issues. Tech really needs to see a therapist about his issues with implementation.

I disagree. I think it would be more likely that they wouldn't respond at all to us if they forgot.

Here's how the correspondence would have gone:

TT emails PWE about not having a CO award: "Hey, we forgot to add a gift for the Champions Online MMO."

PWE "We don't have a game called Champions Online, how did you get this email address? Please contact customer support for further assistance."

    Yup, pretty much.

Looking at the quality of the modelling there on that spider-mount and again on the panther companion pet - its pretty clear where the majority of the modelling-talent at Cryptic are working. Sadly, not surprised and bored to the point of apathy at their continued antics and disproportionate allocation of talent to projects.

Still... could be worse. Neverwinter's demands could be pulling even more staff off of Champions-Online to favor Neverwinter and it's promotion (albeit temporarily). Have fun at PAX Trailturtle!.

I have been a recent become a frequent whiner on these forums. I'm starting to recognize some of you vets. Respect.

I'm a vet from CoH who came here out of necessity, but fell in love. I actually have come to LIKE the slightly consoley block mechanic and have bought the Champions PnP sourcebooks and have been amazed by a POTENTIAL content source AT LEAST as rich as CoH.

But, having come from a game that was unapologetically and unceremoniously murdered before it's time, I seem to have landed in a game that is being slowly and gently suffocated with a pillow because it's parents have too many children.

It's like Perfect World is saying, "Shhhh... just go to sleep, all your troubles will be over soon. We need the food for your brother's and sisters. Just sleep."

I'm just not sure I'm ready to "go towards the light" politely for a second time. This game is PERFECTLY VIABLE WITH JUST MODERATE INVESTMENT.

--Removed by TrailTurtle... not really comfortable with it.--

Too much? I can never tell.

Wow.. so, here's what I see.

People that love the game but that are dead-set on killing it by being pessimistic, incurably negative (call that redudant if you want) and feeding off each other's depressive thoughts.

Want this game to fail? Keep up the fearmongering...

Yes, it's fearmongering because you have no proof, you're just spreading your doubts as though they are a crisis or dire news.

You have NOTHING to go on.

But one thing you WILL accomplish is pushing away people that might want to start playing the game and.. oh, I don't know, SPEND MONEY HERE.

So how about we all put on our little smiley faces and go buy some zen.

And, just for the record, maybe none of you were here back when PWE adopted CO officially.... know why? Because it never happened. They only just added CO to the PWE lineup of websites about 4 months ago and even then you could only get there direct on the URL for a long time. So, SLOWLY, they are being integrated into the PWE family.

ANd just like TT said, the API isn't set up to have the same reference tables as the other PWE games. Granted, Cryptic make NWO, STO and CO, but their reference tables (correct me if I'm wrong, TT) were never imported into the main database with PWE which is why when you click your character profile it comes up with a profile based on ANY OTHER PWE GAME YOU"VE PLAYED.

That doesn't mean CO is lost, forgotten or won't be changed or given any love. It boils down to code issues.

We can all see it's stagnating, but in case you're not following PWE's other offerings, so are they right now. It's a HUGE undertaking to publish and release a new title.

So.. this is my rant. I'm not directing this at anyone specific, but new people DO READ these boards. Let's give them some positive things to read instead of always being down on the game.

Bottom line: If you keep predicting the end of CO is nigh, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy because nobody wants to invest time in a game they feel is about to go away.

And that's my rant. Maybe we can get Trail Turtle or Biff to delete this thread.

It's worth noting that that's the best approximation of the issue, not necessarily the actual issue itself. I'm around code a lot, but I don't know all the terminology. It's definitely an issue of mismatched processes and tech, but I have no idea if it's actually related to APIs or reference tables.

It's also worth noting that Champs is doing well within its scope. We all know we're not a blockbuster like STO, but with the expectations that we're setting right now, we're looking good on our metrics.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I have seen nothing to make me think Champs will close, and I'm seeing mostly positive trends.

Nah, I try to avoid that. The any money we spend here that is more than 'paying the rent', i.e. making CO stay in the financial black, goes to OTHER Cryptic games, primarily NW and what ever the next thing is.

There's literally no point in spending more than the minimum, you will -not- get it back. That's been clear since this time last year, in hindsight it was happening since F2P

Well, I accept Trailtrutle and Mensar's slap on the wrist to people when they are being negative Nancy's like I was, but I do want to point out one thing.

The issue I'm worried about isn't if the game is going to be shut down (which would suck) but that it will continue to stagnate.

There is this commercial against (can I say this on the boards?) marijuana where the younger brother is talking about his older brother and hes says, "he didn't die in a car accident or rob a liquor store or get arrested, he just... didn't do anything."

That's my fear for Champions. Wasted potential. Honestly, a big new release like Perfect World has done for other games, something like a "Dark Champions" or the the Foundry with the proper marketing push, COULD make it shiny and new enough to be rejuvenated. It did for CoH with CoV. That was HUGE.

Ok, now that I've clarified my negative Nancyism, I'll shut up and go play. I spend tons of money (more than I should) on this game and help new payers whenever I can in game, I'm just, well, honestly worried.

PWE has had Cryptic, CO and STO since August 2011. Last June was the forums merger.

I wasn't naysaying or fear mongering. Simply made a statement from a PWE news page to which TT came in with an explanation and the thread title "Is CO forgotten?" I felt was appropriate due to the stagnation of the game.

    Emphasis mine.

What this means is, sell to us for a gods awful amount.

Cryptic introducing new things for us to (and want to) buy is a good thing IMO.

Hey, I didn't single anyone out.

And I DEFINITELY agree with suggestions to make a game better. If you have them, come up with something constructive and throw it into the suggestions thread.

    That's how games become blockbusters.

I'm just saying, we (all of us, me included) probably want to check the negativity unless we want to have to come true. But that's all I really have to say in this thread.

This message brought to you by the superhero:
    Bacon Overlord

    All available action figures, check.
    Hit the global cap, check.
All lore and event perks done, check.
All 1K mob perks done, check.
All nemesis mob perks done, check.
    Break 20,000 perk points, check.
Complete all 5K perk points, stay tuned!

Come see me on steam (be friends, drink fine wines, clink glasses and KILL STUFF ONLINE!)

They gettin' to you man? Putting the fear under under the skin.
Big bad lethargic hippy gonna come and play your x-box til he's bored and eat your cereal? You paranoid bro?

    Relax.

    You gonna...finish that...?

Oh, I know you weren't singling anyone out, just wanted to clarify my posts here.

As far as suggestions to better the game: meaningful content would be a good start. More costume additions as well. Something worth spending money on instead of this vehicle focus.

I don't think CO was included simply because this game is different than PWE's other games. It isn't built for extreme monetization and it would require too much time and energy to put anything in the game to promote from sources outside of the game itself.

All plans were actually to include it, we had an exclusive item all prepped and everything.

I've been asked not to talk about it until we know how we'll use it. :X It's marketing, we want to be able to make a splash with the announcement.
