Yes alright i'll just pick 13 powers at random from the nearly 300 available.

We need at least some idea of what you want to do.

best is subjective, and if there were such a combination that would completely obsolete everything else it wouldn't last anyway

we dont really know anything about your skill level, interests, type of hero wanted, or anything with such a brief plea .... :o

if you are really in the dark for a PvE hero and are just geting started or arent familiar with the powersets...I suggest using one of the Archetypes to get started.... special made... just for you :):)

or, at least look at the archetype power progression to get an idea of what you will need at a minimum.

otherwise...this thread has a plethera ( sp?) of builds that you can either use, or cannibalize for your needs.

I don't believe the on-next-attack powers like Sonic Device will work on AoE's now, will they?

As of the latest gadgeteering pass, yes they do albeit at reduced effectiveness.

so even the "80% additional dmg boost to AoE's" from deafening dissolution is moot ?

    did I misinterpret it ?

according to Char. Build., deaf/ Dis. a flip-flop of rank 2

rank 2 has: 550 sonic dmg and 367 for sonic AoE

and Deaf.Dis. shows as 367 sonic dmg, and 550 sonic AoE ( albiet with a 0.3 less stun duration, but they rarely ever live that long anyway )

In useage I am seeing quite a big difference in dmg over the normal shockwave and havoc stomp when sonic device is used....so I cant really belive that its moot...

(( clarification is appreciated if this is wrong or my assumptions are wrong ... but seeing is believeing for me :) ))

Hey guys, i got a question!

I just upgraded my account to gold and want to start afreeform now after 2 archetypes (blade and soldier)

I want to make a DPS freeform that is like the blade, means it should be melee and be able to whipe out 2-3 groups of enemies at once without dieing. I cant think of what Melee class i should pick and how to evolve the guy, please tell me what would be the best idea :)

I would appreciate a list like all the others posted with skills etc. and a preferable Gearset i should use would help me, aswell saying what attributes (str, dex etc.) i should focus on and which should be 2ndary!

Thanks for your help guys :D

Go back through the first few pages of this thread before it changed from "people posting freeform builds" to "people asking for builds that have more or less already been posted in the same thread". The build in post number 6 might be what you're looking for.

I searched through this thread a few times, and I was wondering if anyone has any "up to date" build for either a durable electric, force, or gadgeteering(dps/support) character. With the cost of retconning, I'm terrified of actually building one and having it fail. If anyone has a link to an already posted one, or has one stashed away in their arsenal of characters, I would be greatly appreciative! :D

    Super Stats: INT/END w/ PRE

    Powers:
    Level 1: Electric Bolts
Level 1: Sparkstorm -- Rank 2, Electric Personality
    Level 6: Ionic Reverberation
    Level 6: Acrobatics -- Rank 3
    Level 8: Invulnerability -- Rank 3
    Level 11: Laser Sword -- Rank 3
    Level 14: Conviction -- Rank 3
    Level 17: Unbreakable
    Level 20: Energy Shield
    Level 23: Bionic Shielding -- Rank 3
    Level 26: Lightning Storm -- Rank 3
Level 29: Ball Lightning -- Rank 2, Triplicity
Level 32: Inertial Dampening Field -- Rank 2
    Level 35: Immolation
    Level 35: Teleport
Level 38: Orbital Cannon -- Rank 2, Anvil of Dawn

If the idea is to tank, be sure to grab Challenging Strikes on Sparkstorm and Crippling Challenge on Laser Sword. Somewhat weak on the support side, but Bionic Shielding w/ a bit of PRE can go a long way.

If you wanted to go more towards support, swap Invuln with Aura of Radiant Protection (rank 3) and Orbital Cannon for Inertial Dampening Field (rank 3). Slightly less personal survivability, but your team will be greatly enhanced.

EDIT: Celestial Cleansing was replaced with Inertial Dampening Field since in practice Celestial Cleansing doesn't always remove the debuff you want (Bionic Tampering).

i dont play pvp with this toon tho, not too sure how it would perform against other melee fighters.

lunge + inex tides + dragon kicks seems to be a pretty annoyin combo for most ppl i faced tho.

I've been trying a toon with this, level 32.

Two more powers to go, I'll probably get another Active Offense. I may also add Ego Blade Breach, though two single target melee attacks would be a bit much. With two active defenses, two active offenses (once I have the second) and Nanobot Swarm, the toon is very heavily buffed for about 30s.

Because it has Ego Surge, I could actually switch the passive to one of Quarry/AoPM/Shadow Form/Seraphim.

There's probably a good Muni Power Replacer/Lock and Load variant, since four of the best Muni Power Replacers deal paranormal damage.

    Level 35: Iniquity -- Justice, Rank +
    Level 38: Ego Form -- Rank ++
So, here's my most recent build.

I leveled quite easily with it, hope you have fun with it.
    It's a Solo/Support-at-40 theme.
I leveled it on Ego Blades, but found Seraphim to be more efficient at 29, so i swapped.
I had SS EGO until 38, but swapped to SS PRE, and found it much more efficient.
Eldritch Blast is in for theme, ranged, and a early level slot to get a ranged power.
(If it's not needed, slot in an Ego Ranged power.)
Same for Eldritch Shield, swap it out for later, or not at all if you're not into tanking.
If you're not into support at 40, swap out Iniquity for whatever.
EgoForm is there at 38 just because i couldn't bear to give up "Id Blades" upon demand when solo'ing.
(swap it out at yoru leisure)

So, I just recently started playing CO and upgraded to gold and I have to say thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread, I'm thoroughly enjoying it and it's SUPER helpful.

I do have two build questions/requests if possible. They're both thematic/rp builds but if possible, I'd still like them to be effective both teaming and soloing.

The first is an Unarmed MA primary build with darkness secondary (Going for an over the top type martial artist here - think Captain Falcon or Rock Lee). I've actually been going buy the build that KenpoJujitsu posted on page 9, but I was hoping to get some suggestions mostly on where I should be heading buildwise.

The second is a single blade primary build with either gadgets or power armor secondary. The idea here is a cyber swordsman, of sorts. Inspiration here would be a combination (of sorts) between say, Samurai Jack/Afro Samurai/Kenshin/etc etc and someone like Zero or Raiden.

I do apologize in advance if these have been posted in the thread already, but I'm fairly sure I've looked through (this one at least) to find them.

Awesome and more awesome. I'll have to get ahold of the new Champion Builder and get an actual build put together (then posted) later tonight.

Just one question, would you recommend Parry, Energy Shield/Laser Knight, or Ebon Void for a block? If a special one's needed, that is. I haven't seen them in action to compare them against each other as far as gameplay goes, but I would imagine that Ebon Void or Parry would work best.

    Thanks much! :D

my build that i posted is level 34 so far, and i did not need to get a block at all. if i have to pick one i go with force shield, the energy return is nice, and the advantage only cost 1 points, unlike parry AND energy shield.

I scanned through the topic and didn't seen any single blade builds. I've been gone for awhile, I was ego blades leveling to 40 but I was wanting to try changing to a DPS (maybe with some solo ability) single blade build., I'm not too picky on theme, but I'd prefer no other physical weapon powers (ie, I think one of the guns is good with blades, but I'd prefer to not use anything physical except the blade, but an energy, elemental, or bare handed attack is fine by me).

I second this. Although mine will be used to level. But I'm not real worried about having an optimal leveling build. Just a good single blade build would be nice, if anyone has one.

I'm assuming you're using the Kyobu build so....

    1) Superstat DEX/CON instead of DEX/INT and talent accordingly for DEX/CON/EGO and REC or END

    2) Dump thunderbolt lunge for Void shift and its advantage to fear nearby targets.

    3) Grab Burning Chi Fist and its advantage for Dimensional Damage over time and additional dimensional damage with follow up melee hits. FALCON PUUUNNNNNCH!!!

    4) Grab Spirit reverberation for energy return from feared targets struck with dimensional damage

    5) Grab Shadow Shroud and its advantage to further go with the above theme (fear w/ dimens. dmg)

    6) Grab Summon Shadows for when you want help from your "Shadow Ninjas" add advantage for extra healing if you find it useful.

    7) Masterful Dodge is useful as an emergency button

    8) Inexorable tides followed by a burning chi fist looks hella cool and is great as an interrupt.

    9) Howl might be useful to you as well for fearing targets and a damage boost from an enrage stack.

    10) Consider Expulse as a "get away from me" move that does dimensional damage and could serve as a thematic pic for "opening the gates".

I had the same idea awhile back about the Martial Arts/Darkness build.

I was inspired by Pulsewave's Zeus build http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=127457 to try a fire build that does not rely on fire form. Pulsewave's Zeus build combines aura of primal majesty with stacks of enrage to give avenger-like damage with electrical and force from the guardian role. This build uses the fire set and combines defiant and enrage, also from the guardian role. Although I have not compared it to a more standard fire build I expect that damage will be lower. Since Strength is not a superstat the damage bonus from Enrage is currently 5% (per stack) on my level 28 toon. That reduction in damage is small compared to the improvements in defense.

Currently, I am using gear for Con/Pre along with Rec and Int and it works reasonably well. The character can take a lot of damage, healing is not bad, maintaining endurance is okay too. I hope to balance Strength and Recovery a bit more at later levels which should bump the damage bonus from Enrage up a bit. Even so, damage is pretty good and having Defiant with Con as a superstat makes this toon pretty tough compared to most Fire builds.

I'm using an old version of the Champions builder so if you want to try this yourself you might want to get fireball at level 1 and save heat wave for a later level. Firebreath is not needed in this build. I like it as a power because it lets you move and it stays focussed on your target. With all the other fire powers it is a bit redundant... I might go with inertial defense field or another heal instead. Not having a lot of healing powers seems odd on a toon with high Pre.

I doubt this would be effective in PvP. The powers are not good for hitting moving targets that can easily get more than 50 away from you. In PvE everything runs toward you making this a very easy build to level with.

You definately want to DUMP those three Accelerated Metabolism advantages. Get those points back into something better, like Defiance R3!

Accelerated Metabolism is so puny, then has an internal cooldown of somthing like 12 or 15 seconds, it's BAD, BAD, BAD. Avoid at all costs (unless you have 1 point left and nothing else takes 1).

You definately want to DUMP those three Accelerated Metabolism advantages. Get those points back into something better, like Defiance R3!

    Wait...really?

Accelerated Metabolism has a 10% to return some energy...but it also has an internal cooldown of 12 or 15 seconds?

I've actually been thinking about applying this advantage to one of my powers...is the above statement true?

It only really has use on fast-ticking powers (like maintains) where it has a decent chance to proc, and where your build might be juggling stats and can't stack enough Rec.

any1 got a nice free form toxic/ice build for pvp? ive been looking around but couldnt find any >.<

    My build:

    ss STR/INT > rec
infernal eb, lash with adv or chain, ice form, infernal toggle, defile, enrage, any lunge, MSA, conviction, radiant summon, evasive maneuvers, unbreakable with adv, ascension.

Pretty self explanatory. Lack AoE tho, it's a pvp oriented build.

Apparently, his sense of self-preservation is stronger than his sense of community.

My question would be, why go to all that trouble to preserve a position in a community you are shafting so thoroughly with your selfishness? It's like the neighborhood kid who doesn't get his way, throws a tantrum and goes home, saying, "If you all don't come and play over here, you can't play with my stuff."

Believe it or not, there's a compliment in all that. IMHO, the community will suffer from the loss of many of the members who have left the forums for the free boards, especially those who have taken their ideas and creativity from the board with them. But those members should realize that not everyone will want to go play with you in your new playground where the developers and community reps we've known for over three years will remain silent. In boycotting these forums, your selfishness hurts the rest of us far more than it hurts Cryptic. The only way you're hurting Cryptic in all this is if you're turning off potential subs or re-subs with your negativity and antics. And that in turn will hurt the community even more. So to me, it all comes down to this: are you punishing Cryptic, or are you punishing us?

And, before my number one fan (you know who you are ;)) can comment: yes, I'm certain there may be some infraction-worthy material up there, but it had to be said.

I don't think there's anything wrong in removing all posts by oneself. He is not obliged in whatever way whatsoever to any of you. Hence there is nothing wrong in him removing his posts and builds. If you truly want to seek out knowledge, you would want to go over to the new forum. Either that, or you continue supporting this current one. To each his own, if I decide to show support to my friends over some injustice, no matter how alleged they may be, that's my final decision. By removing his post he has done no harm to your gameplay at all, so why bother?

You do realize that he is over there giving the most advice to the silver players that cannot post on these forums...and you're questioning his sense of community?

Yes, he deleted all his posts. No, this can't be considered self-preservation or selfishness because 1) there was nothing questionable in basically all of the posts he deleted, and 2) how does this benefit him?

Then why would he do this given how much time and effort he has spent here? I guess we won't know on this forum.

Perhaps he wanted to make a point. Or perhaps he felt he couldn't support these forums anymore. But I'm sure he had a reason, and it wasn't selfishness.

Ya know, it's really hard to stay off these forums when people point out stuff like this to me while I'm minding my own business. Just to clarify:

    1) There is no "self-preservation". It's a game forum, not my life or even my number one hobby. To date I have received zero infractions on this forum, ever (though I'm unclear if that sentence will earn me one). None of my posts were in violation either. It is a personal matter and how I chose to peacefully "voice" my opinion on it.

    2) My Community involvement:

-Running two Supergroups consisting of over 100 people spanning the globe (that's actual people, not characters of which there are 400 or so)? Check
-Providing a private Vent server for said groups at no cost to them? Check
-Posting game and build advice where the entire playerbase can access it and comment or ask questions? Check
-Keeping the peace as a volunteer mod on a forum where the entire community, not just subbed community, have full access? Check
-Posting videos of the gameplay and actively recruiting players to come check us out on other game forums? Check
-Responding to several mails on a daily basis to help any community members with various aspects of the game? Check
-Sending people builds on the theme they request, upon request? Check
-Sidekicking up and down to help randoms when they are stuck in-game? Check
-Spending hours a week sitting idle to answer questions in zone chat? Check
-Testing things on PTS that I might never use solely to help ensure other players can enjoy it when it hits live? Check

helbjorn is free to use the above form and check where applicable their commitment and contribution to the community as a whole, a community which is and has always been much larger than this forum. I simply request that it be in another thread so as not to derail the good work that Ashen et al have put together here.

    Regards,

    KJ3

I just made a toon with shadow Bolts and Ego Blade.

Thiis my first time trying to make a totally personal character so... I was hoping for some tips on how to build on what I made. Its still lvl 6 so If I did anything wrong to it i can change it out. I know that characters will not be 100% perfect and may fault in power and playability some times but I want to stick with this character as my main.

    Thank you

    Couple of questions.

    1) What is thunderstrike in this build for?
    2) Why did you choose Annihilation instead of Breach?
    3) Why Resurgent Reiki on BCR with no dodge enhancers to use the advantage other than MD 12 levels later?
    4) Why is there a knockback move at level 11 for a mostly melee build with a melee end builder with no lunge to reclose that gap until level 26?
