OK, Now I don't know what you are talking about and am confused if you're talking about tanking at all at this point. You shouldn't be paying attention to their HP at all if you are tanking and holding aggro. Their HP should be just fine and that's the healer's job anyway, not a tank's.
I understand what you're saying. My point is...for me...sometimes I can't get all the agro at once...and I have to work my way around to grab it all. The easiest way for me to find the enemies that are not attacking me is to see if my teammates are being attacked by looking at the HP bar.
It's extremely difficult to show how well a tank can hold aggro. Who's to say whatever team I showed wasn't optimized DPS or whether they held back on their damage so I could keep aggro just for the video? Instead I opted to show the durability of the character which is MUCH harder to fake.
Let's just put it this way...I personally would never claim a build could Tank through use of a solo video. I just expected a video of a 5 man team running through a lair.
That's all I was trying to get at in the first place.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Given the amount of PRE, an AoE taunt and a maintained single target Crip Challenge power I assumed it would be obvious keeping aggro would not be an issue. However, given the lack of CON the durability of the build might be suspect... hence a video showcasing durability.
I'm making a celestial healer and was wondering if someone could make a build up for me?
also I want to make bot class, but no idea where to start, should I try being an Inventor first to get a rough idea or use some power armour abilites too? as I really wanna use wrist bolter =3

He fought against Hard mobs in both videos. I also tested his tank build against Teleiosaurus solo, and had no problem staying alive and dealing good damage. It's an excellent build. I suggest you test it out yourself on the test server.

Yeah you are right...
But as of late I have taken to the mind set that build that use purple gang as test mobs in the PH are trash.
Really? Testing yer hardcore build vs mobs you dont see past lev 20. Test it with Vibora Bay then I might just give yer build some respect... beyond that I still claim trash to builds that test with purple gang. Sorry but they dont have the buffs, debuffs, crowd control that later enemy groups have.
I use to think of Willblack, Pulswave, and Ashen_x as build kings. Now that I know more about the game and builds I find their builds sub standard at best. Sorry they are not gods of the free form build they are just players with opinions and I find most of those opinions to be out of date or flat out trash. In fact most of their builds flat out dont work while leveling and it would seem are ether retcon builds or PTS builds. As such I no longer look to their builds as being valid. With only 3-4weeks of being back to the game I feel my own builds to be best for me rather then following with blind ambition builds that I feel are both out of date, need a retcon at 40, and/or just plain trash.
So to sum it up...
Ashen-X, Willblack, and Pulsewave have some ok builds, but to look to those players as builder gods or think their builds are anything other then opinion makes you as players who use said builds to be misinformed.
I wanted to think o wow these guys know there stuff. As I played these build in test I saw the flaws and the builds are not very good at all. I guess in a game with such a low pop and even lower forum pop people can start to look to flawed builders as king.
Even Willbacks guide to frame works and what not is both out of date and opinions at best...
Pretty much all the info there while not wrong is just his opinion and I find most of it to just be his opinion at best. Yet people who cant figure out how to build their own toon flok to it like moronic repubs to the tea party.

Oh yeah?
Then post a video of said build with yellow PTS server items. Fighting Vibora Bay power house mobs and not VS mobs you don't see past lev 20ish.
Sorry but for me any video posted as a lev 40 with a test Vs Purple gang in just no a real test.
But as of late I have taken to the mind set that build that use purple gang as test mobs in the PH are trash
He tested them against Demon in those videos. The Master Villain, and one of the Villain types, use a Chest Beam like power that knocks you back, which can be quite deadly - especially when you aggro the whole room, meaning you face up to at least six enemies with those knock back beams simultaneously. The Master Villain can also hold you, and there's no pop-up warning over their head when they charge that up.

Once again demons you see in lev 20 MC...
Not the mobs you see in Vibora Bay, if it is not Vs said mobs then the test is null and void IMO.
(and really ... Live action movie where the wild things are avatar?)

deal with it yer builds are not all that good
Post some of yours, then?
The goal isn't to be "uber leet", it's to give people advice on getting started or making things work.

ahh so only way to validate my opinions are to post my builds huh?
That is so cute...
I will post them as soon as I am done with frapsing them in real game situations and in "VIBORA BAY PH" untill then sit back and enjoy following builders who have no real claim to fame.
Until then saying I have no right to post my opionion on how I think said builders build are fail is just you being hung up on them.
Post your builds and vids of said builds perhaps? Real game action on on very hard or elite...
Till then well yeah till then!
Even if it was a matter of posting a build on here with video of it running at lev "40" vs lev 20 con mobs at best. These build pst by said builder flat out do not work for a new person leveling.
Post yer builds...

Almost all of their build dont work without a retcon at some point...
Hell Willblacks beastial build does not have a heal thill late 20s... Really is that build to level with?
Dude sorry but yer heroes are flawed at best.

I make my own builds. Most of them suck, but I use them because I like them. And I'm not trying to be "cute". This is intended to be a resource for people to use who want a starting point that fits with a certain theme, not an e-peen contest.
You could do Con/Int with Str from Gear/Talents with Enrage/Defiance, plug in attacks of your choice and some active defenses, and steamroll far better than most of the builds posted in any of these threads.
Not everyone's going to want to do that, though. If there are glaring holes in these mostly-thematic builds that are making them so cripplingly bad as to be completely unusable, that needs to be pointed out.
But just saying "these are trash because they aren't fighting Vibora Bay stuff" really doesn't add much constructive to the discussion.

You did note how, in this thread, not all of the builds posted have "this is a leveling build" in front of them, right?
And I never said you couldn't post your opinion. I do, however, feel that the only way to contribute to making the builds better is to either post specific suggestions of things to change, or post entirely alternative builds.
That's why I'm not posting full builds in here. I generally offer suggestions in build threads, but I have a hard time decoupling "things I like" from "things that work well".
Look at how rambling the Telepathy overview in Framework Summaries is.
My point is that most of the builds post by said god like builder are not good for people who are new to free form. Hell most of them are just flat out not good at all.
At first I saw them as awesome end all and be all builds. The more I learn about the game I notice how flawed they are and how they just dont work for new players.
I judge a build by what can solo SLVH and farm Viper X.
If these builders with these uber build can handle that I would like to see vids of that rather then power house vids vs Purple Gang.

Which is why I said "post some alternatives".
And where'd you get this "god like builders" thing from? Will's in a couple of people's sigs because he made Munitions work before it had some easily-compatible passives, and he didn't hoard the knowledge like some people tend to when they find things that work.
Pulsewave's the same way. He's made a ton of different variations on things that work pretty well, in a set that's rather tricky to get right. Have I used his builds? Only on PtS or up til about 20 on live, because I hate the way Power Armor (the powers) look. But there are several people in my SG that absolutely murder things using his builds or variants thereof.
I don't see where the attitude comes in. You're acting like every poster in this thread forced you to level using only Particle Mine, stole your icecream and then kicked your dog.
I recently had a conversation with a new player whose only reason for not subscribing essentially boiled down to wanting an easier time with character creation. He liked the idea of cross-set builds, but didnt have the time to spend building characters. Through our conversation a frequently expressed worry was that he might ruin his character.
My thought was that since AT's are an easy introduction for Silver players, why dont we, as the community, put together some effective, "guaranteed to not suck," builds for new Golds (or even veterans who just want quick and easy access to a set theyve not played before).
So post your favorite builds here.
Edit: I'm not sure that we need to focus on the most absolutely optimal choices here. THis is about good, functional builds, not arguments over which choice is ideal at which level.
As someone else posted earlier, this is not the Uber-Elite Build thread, it's a help the newb with builds that do not suck, please stop polluting with your opinion on the worthiness of the builders, you could point out major flaws if you think a build will suck. But stroking your epeen by dissing helpfull builders is rather crass IMHO.
Yeah, like Dr. Sage said, let's keep this as a resourceful and informative thread. If you have to give your opinion on how someone's build performs, you should try that same build out and test it yourself to your own standards first.
I apologize for posting this in the wrong thread, but, it seems like the best place to ask.
Could anyone give me a build for this?
I'm looking for a 'build' that would utilize casters. Something that can stun/freeze(something along the lines), put out good damage and solo level. Build detail isn't required, just the 'power sets'.

Hi, I like Kenpo's Midnight build on page 8 IIRC, it's good Darkness build with Shadow Grasp and the Damage advantage for stun + damage. Also a lot of caster like damage and life drain is also cool
Correct me if I'm wrong Tribeca but the tank build video I posted also showed the first room of elite mode Andrith didn't it? That's a far cry from any powerhouse testing.
Whether you believe me or not, both my support and tank builds posted have the most issues with DEMON due to low STR and the excessive amount of Chestbeam spam that doesn't apply knock resist. Hence, I used them as test subjects.
Both my support and tank builds have bold red letters stating they're not leveling builds.
@WaterDemonz: Check out the Darkness power set. It's got decent damage, crowd control, pets and a bit of healing built in.
Aura of Primal Majesty, alternate support/DPS build
SS: DEX/PRE
Passive: Aura of Primal Majesty
Base: several work, including Telepathy, Force and Gadgeteering
Support Powers: Protection Field (or Mindful Reinforcement), Empathic Healing, Bionic Shielding
DPS Powers: Orbital Cannon, Mini Gun, Concussor Beam, Chest Beam
Active Offense: Electric Sheathe and/or Lock and Load
(Ascension would also work very well functionally, but would look really weird on my toon)
Active Defense: Unbreakable and/or Masterful Dodge
My toon Envy is a variant of this. Level 40, the toon was designed specifically for Stronghold PvP.
Guys, there's no reason to argue with Tribeca76, this person is obviously looking just to cause problems and get people riled up. Continuing to argue isn't going to solve anything, This person will just get more and more out of hand, and I'd hate to see this incredibly informative thread get shut down. This person has some kind of bone to pick, as can be outlined here:
I use to think of Willblack, Pulswave, and Ashen_x as build kings. Now that I know more about the game and builds I find their builds sub standard at best. I've never claimed to be an "ultimate build guru," and neither has Ashen, Pulsewave Kenpo, Skeeterbarnes, or any of the other plethora of those of us that give out information. Statements like these:
Ashen-X, Willblack, and Pulsewave have some ok builds, but to look to those players as builder gods or think their builds are anything other then opinion makes you as players who use said builds to be misinformed.

Are needlessly arrogant and antagonistic. There's nothing you, or I, or anyone can say that's going to change this person's mind. They have made up their mind that they are right, and infallible and you, I and everyone in this thread are incorrect. This person operates under the impression that "Build is King," which is a flawed way of thinking in this game, being how open the system is, and how versatile combat it.
But more importantly, I'd like to see this thread continue to stay open, and not be shut down. These last few pages in particular are a very good reminder of what happens when you begin to understand the concepts of a new subject. This is the point where it is very common for the Dunning-Kruger Effect to take effect, which this person so obviously is suffering from. For more information on the Dunning-Kruger Effect, please look here:
This person has failed to achieve any form of metacognition, giving them an inability to understand or even comprehend their mistakes, therefore applying an illusory superiority - rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is. Only, this person has gone far beyond that, and is rating their ability at a savant level, dwarfing everyone who has ever shown and sort of competence in this game. But that is not enough to sate this person's ego, this person needs to completely denigrate the work of all those that they see as competition for this imaginary title of "Build King."
So please people, do not continue to argue, just let this person burn out. They'll make their builds, they will perform mediocrily or better, and they will believe themselves superior. Continuing to argue will only continue to feed that self image.
Generally there seems to be two types of posts in this thread, Build Posts and Advice posts. Is it feasible to split the thread in two, one for free form leveling builds and another for advice? There are many great builds here but a lot of the other posts make it more of a hunt.
What would be cool is if we could do a partly closed thread. Players would post builds outside of the thread and then after going through the general revision process it could then be added to the Freeform build thread. Alternatively, would it be possible to create like a wiki page with the leveling builds located there. That would leave this thread intact but give us a definitive home for the builds that are approved out of this thread.

Thoughts?
I think all of the above are GREAT ideas. I agree that after like page 6, it begins to be a bit of a hunt to find a good freeform build, as people tend to be talking back and forth giving advice. I think your idea of a wiki article is a good choice, as it allows users of said wiki to add builds on as they can, and maybe use this thread more for people to ask questions about specific builds, or make requests.
1- Why SS Int and not Ego ? Most TK builds I have seen SS Ego.
2- How would you gear this build, especially as you level ?
Thank you again for the great thread.
I used to SS EGO as well.
That ended with the change to passives in the FtP patch. Now Ego Form scales with SS.
Ego contributes to an Ego Blades character's damage in two ways. First by providing up to a 20% damage buff similar to the way Str aids a physical melee character. This buff maxes out at 70 Ego. Second in the same manner that Ego afects the DPS of any Dex SS character, through critical severity. It is very possible to generate a respectable crit severity without Ego SS. Since crit severity is all that you get out of Ego SS the fact that you can get sufficient severity for good DPS without SSing Ego makes Ego a poor SS (IMO of course).
On the other hand Int SS means being able to use Ego Blade Breach more frequently. I have found that to have a greater overall effect on my DPS than Ego SS.

I dont believe that anyone here made any claims to being a god, build designer or not.
Of course any build is an expression of the builder's opinion.
If you saw these builds as end all be all builds I can see where your problem originates. Some of these builds do need retcons to work and others are clearly not levelling builds at all. But the goal here was never to provide the ultimate optimal build.
As to, "claim to fame," If you are looking for fame, or self worth in general, in a video game you have a problem. I certainly am not. My goal for starting the thread is as stated, I met someone who found CO's system of character building to be off-putting.
All of my builds are flawed by the standard that anything less than optimal efficiency is flawed. But they work, and can work very well. Each and everyone of them is a recreation (perhaps not an exact copy) of a character that I have played extensively. In every case this has involved retcons for the simple fact that the characters involved have by necessity been built and rebuilt as power passes have come and gone. It is not possible for me to post how I levelled these characters because the game is different now than when I started playing them.
Every one of these characters has beaten SL elite. Ive only played SL non elite under very few circumstances:
1) Elite didnt exist when I first played SL, so I started with VH.
2) When playing with others who didnt want to play elite.
I dont consider SL VH or Elite to be a good test of a build's optimization because I find it to be fairly easy even on my Mind AT (created for AT only PvP), which is certainly far from an optimized build.
Ive also played each of these builds in Tier 4 PvP (My first PvP experience in CO was T4-prior to CO I had always considered non max level PvP to be, "the kiddie pool.") I prefer BASH but ZA is OK too. Since they are concept builds not designed around CO's PvP meta I dont win much, but I get kills, and I have fun. The builds work.
If I have in any way offended you by starting this thread, and contributing to it, you have my apologies. Such was never my intention.
I wanted to make a Lightning*/Melee Tank/DPS type build fitting a cobbled toon like this but i have no idea how to do it. I need a build that I can level solo with.
Please help. Do it for Scrapyard.
As a robo-hero cobbled together from a pile of scraps and spare parts, he needs all the help he can get.
*lightning or anything i need to that fits the short circuiting beatstick robot profile

Are you looking for something more team-centric or more solo-centric? The only reason I ask is that making a build that can survive the hardest content in the game, hold aggro, and can do good DPS is the most difficult build combination to make. If you're interested in survivability and DPS with little/no care for aggro generation, the build gets much easier to make.
This is a mostly Might Tank with some Fire thrown in for a little CoX Fire Tank flavor. If burn patches make you nostalgic, this should do the trick. Pyre with CS improves the typical Might tank's ability to tank groups. This build can do some decent damage while still being able to tank well.
For a block, if you prefer Energy Shield with Laser Knight, you can leave off Leg Rumbler from Shockwave.
This is a more DPS-oriented Fire/Might build that I posted previously in a separate thread, with some minor tweaks. It does high damage, is hard to kill, and is relatively easy to play.
Secondary stats are STR and END, in that order.
This build could be a decent offtank if you replace Flashfire with Pyre (with CS) and add CC to Mighty Leap.
This build requires a retcon at level 8 to get Dragon Kick in as soon as possible.
Slot a piece of + Dodge/Avoidance gear in your primary defense slot.
Use Evasive maneuvers to boost your dodge chance and Thunderbolt Lunge to get right back into melee.
Use Inexorable Tides and Dragon Kick to keep groups of foes controlled (and to get the Rush advantage from Dragons Kick) to reduce their damage output.
Burning Chi Fist for single target burst damage.
Remember to use Bountiful Chi Resurgence w/Resurgent Reikki whenever necessary (dont use when no t needed since this will reduce your damage output).
The Flippin' advantage on swinging comes into play when the TP is toggled on, you dont actually have to be in the air.
Overall this build will have tons of health, good energy management through Focus stacking and Rush, great control, and decent damage. On top of this your dodge stacking plus fast activating self heals will make you tough as nails.

I understand what you're saying. My point is...for me...sometimes I can't get all the agro at once...and I have to work my way around to grab it all. The easiest way for me to find the enemies that are not attacking me is to see if my teammates are being attacked by looking at the HP bar.
That's a very good point.

How celestial do you want your celestial healer? Are you willing to dip into other power sets?
...and as a shameless plug, check out the Support Guide in my signature.

Sorry but for me any video posted as a lev 40 with a test Vs Purple gang in just no a real test.
Live action movie where the wild things are avatar?)
above is troll portion of my post
Watch me pick them apart like nothing.
Everything else is just needless sniping.
That's why I'm not posting full builds in here. I generally offer suggestions in build threads, but I have a hard time decoupling "things I like" from "things that work well".
Look at how rambling the Telepathy overview in Framework Summaries is.
CO is retardedly easy, Even builds that suck pwn.
Arguing about how powerful it is completely pointless.

As someone else posted earlier, this is not the Uber-Elite Build thread, it's a help the newb with builds that do not suck, please stop polluting with your opinion on the worthiness of the builders, you could point out major flaws if you think a build will suck. But stroking your epeen by dissing helpfull builders is rather crass IMHO.
please dont get this thread shut down over stupid bickering.
it's way too valuable to all of us.
thanks
.(( I sent a report as well..... sorry, but I dont want to see this shut down just becasue somebody decided to be ultra confrontational ))
I've never claimed to be an "ultimate build guru," and neither has Ashen, Pulsewave Kenpo, Skeeterbarnes, or any of the other plethora of those of us that give out information. Statements like these:
For more information on the Dunning-Kruger Effect, please look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect
This person has failed to achieve any form of metacognition, giving them an inability to understand or even comprehend their mistakes, therefore applying an illusory superiority - rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is. Only, this person has gone far beyond that, and is rating their ability at a savant level, dwarfing everyone who has ever shown and sort of competence in this game. But that is not enough to sate this person's ego, this person needs to completely denigrate the work of all those that they see as competition for this imaginary title of "Build King."
Quote from the top of my Guide:
So please people, do not continue to argue, just let this person burn out. They'll make their builds, they will perform mediocrily or better, and they will believe themselves superior. Continuing to argue will only continue to feed that self image.
Good day,
A_X
Was funny.
The character you created looks awesome by the way.
This is what i am looking for. The only groups i do are duos with my GF.
Thank you very much!
Go on... wait sorry wrong board for that...
For a block, if you prefer Energy Shield with Laser Knight, you can leave off Leg Rumbler from Shockwave.
