"BEST" (quick and dirty) descriptions for the following "Defensive" passives:
    • Regeneration: Leveling (Best under 25)
    • Defiance: Boss/Cosmic fights (Best Over 25)
    • Invulnerability: MV< fights (5-40)
    Is this fairly accurate Pulsewave?

    That's a very good guide.

Ah I see, just one more question.

    "Invulnerability: MV< fights (5-40)"

    Whats MV?

And where does unstoppable fit in?

    -THANKS IN ADVANCE

    Actually, that's two questions

As for "unstoppable", it doesn't "fit in" as the above was a "Defensive Passive" statement....
    Not an "Offensive" one

Hey Pulse.....what do you think of this build? Kind of a variation of your build with some fear in it because it is a beast instead of a man.

I'm quite new to the game and the only thing i can say is... BRAVO!!

i started as a typical might str/con... but this is by far, funnier...!! and effective also...

might be a problem indoors sometimes but it's well worth it!!

    thanks again!!

Tough to say since that's pretty far from what I've been using. I can say that I'd try to keep Retaliation at R3, since theres a damage bonus that scales with the rank. I'd think about going with super STR and Invulnerability instead of super REC and Regen. More STR will get you better Enrage bonus, which you can make perma with Howl. I wouldnt think any melee hero should need both INT and REC as superstats. Energy should be pretty easy. All that should be perfectly thematic.

    Hey Pulse,

Love the guide. I've started a new toon and finally got tp 17 last night. Really fun. I want to run PvP with this concept and was wondering if you had a PvP specific build for the perma growth/might concept.

    Thanks!

I've started working on a Giant Growth character based on your suggestions. Your guide is very helpful, but I was wondering how much difference it would make to use Quarry as a passive? With the fair game advantage, every enemy you drop will grant you back some health that scales with your CON, and non-area attacks that hit will grant you stacks of Quarry that bump your INT and reduce the energy costs of your powers. I'm not sure how significant the bump in INT is though, but it seems like it would help you double up the boost from Mini Drive. Obviously, this would only aid survivability in PvE. Is there any chance the INT bump would be enough to allow for not using INT as a superstat and primarily relying on gear?

You dont need the energy reduction from Quarry and the heal isnt a big deal for this build either. Id just go with Unstoppable for this build. You get energy from that, plus way more damage and some damage resistance.

I've found you don't need to have Int as a SS to make this work. But you basically need about 90ish int to get the countdown timer 16 secs, which is enough to pull off the double growth.

I did it by getting around 30 int from talents and the rest from gear and super stated Str and Con. (Level 23 btw)

I'm thinking of taking unstoppable as well as difiance now that I have SS str.

Question for you Pulse: Do you find Invulnerability works better in PvP vs Defiance? Or perhaps it just seems that way at my level because the damage numbers are low?

I'd love to have all 3 for different situations, but then I wouldn't have slots for anything else! lol

Someone pointed this thread out and said I should say something so...

Just wanted to pop in and point out that the "Growth Squad" is always open for growth based toons.

With the current changes to enrage you can stack enrage fairly eazy on almost anytoon. Point in case I got even my healer with enrage ^.^

(For any questions about my sig, That is my main toon "The Goddess". That was Pre-EALI nerf with 8 stacks of enrage and 3 stacked Mini drive. In the backround to the right is Mega-D dead on the ground, looks tiny doesn't he?)

Hi Pulse, great advice as always. I would appreciate some feedback on this build, closely following your ideas:
    Build by championBuilder 0.4.1

    Download this Build here.

    : Level 40 Champion

    Superstats:
    Level 5: Super Strength
    Level 13: Super Intelligence

    Powers:
    Level 1: Clobber
Level 1: Mighty Leap -- Nailed to the Ground
Level 5: Roomsweeper -- Concussive Blow, Rank 2
    Level 5: Teleport -- Rank 2
Level 8: Enrage -- Giant Growth
    Level 11: Unstoppable -- Rank 3, Rank 2
    Level 14: Havoc Stomp -- Rank 3, Rank 2
Level 17: Miniaturization Drive -- Reciprocating Gizmo
    Level 20: Demolish -- Rank 3, Rank 2
Level 23: Resurgence -- Evanescent Emergence, Rank 2
    Level 26: Nanobot Swarm
    Level 29: Aggressor -- Rank 2
    Level 32: Devour Essence -- Rank 2, Rank 3
Level 35: Retaliation -- Rank 2, Punitive Pummeling
    Level 35: Superjump
    Level 38: Masterful Dodge

    Talents:
    Level 1: The Hero
    Level 6: Body And Mind
    Level 9: Healthy Mind
    Level 12: Physical Conditioning
    Level 15: Relentless
    Level 18: Negotiator
    Level 21: Covert Ops Training

My main questions are whether Rank 3 Aggression or R3 Devour essence and the choice of Resurgence over Bionic Shielding, as the latter seems more in keeping, with concept as it heals when you are hit, as if feeding off the attack.

My build is very close to this. I would recommend going ss/con and getting 90 int from items and talents to give you the growth effect. That way you won't be so squishy and you'll get more from resurrgence.

As for the DE ranking i've found it more useful in PVE than PVP but overall its more for effect than function. You'd probably get way more damage milage out of agressor. But using devour and growing at the same time is pretty cool. In PVE i use it on bosses and it just drains them like nothing.

Since it looks like your going total offence, i'd stick with agressor and just use DE as a cool attack but dont waste points on ranking it.

As for bionic shield or resurgance, i'd say if you go SS con get resurgence, if you stay with ss int then get bionic shielding. Be ncie to have both if you could manage it.

    my $0.02

Thanks for your input :) I should have made clear it is indeed for PvE and it's a concept design, which I try and keep as big as possible, for as much of the time as I can. Hence I went with Int. I agree CON is more useful, but INT normally only makes a big difference when SS. What I am not sure is how much difference it would make to the cool down for enrage, mini drive and bionic shielding. I was hoping at high levels than enrage alone would enable me to keep super sized all the time, but I am not sure.

Well since you're going pure PVE then Int might be fine. You wont be taking much damage to speak of because you'll be killing stuff so fast. The only problem with that of course is that your quickly run out of your feedstock to keep you pumped up to supersize :D

Hehe that is an issue, hence I was hoping enrage with INT SS, would be enough for a perma enraged state at higher levels.

How do you take screen shots and video clips of the action?

How much did that punch hurt Grond?

    Awesome pic. Three questions:

How do you take screen shots and video clips of the action?

The Print Screen button takes screen shots. For video most people use a 3rd party program like FRAPS, but I think there is also a /demorecord feature built into the game. I've never actually taken a video of a game.
How much did that punch hurt Grond?

Not very much. I managed to knock him down to about 75% hit points over the span of a minute or so, but by that time he had grown too bored to stay and fight me. Literally. He said something about me punching like a cuddly kitten and jumped away. :D
How do we get 4 arms? ;)

Draw two extra arms on a clear piece of plastic and carefully tape into position on your monitor.

I made my character Purple Pummeler a Giant character. It's tricky but you can get a tripple growth buff if you do it just right. Here is a pic in the training room. Unfortunately her head is cut off :)

I wish there is a way to extend the length of buffs though.

It depnds alot on the gear you have. I personall kept STR/CON as as SS and build up int using items and talents. At level 40ish (2 bubbles away) I have around 200 str and con and 112 int. I found thats enough int to pull off the double growth and keep enraged permanent with rank 2 as well as provide decent energy reduction. I'd certainly get more int if I could but the I keep the str for doing decent damage even in protector mode. I'm quite enjoying the build and find I can tank qute well and do decent damage to breeze through missions as well.

SS Int will give you more ability to self heal. If someone asks you which is better, super STR or super INT, then you have to answer INT.

That screenshot really makes me wish they had created a Growth powerset.

I think just having the environment limit maximum size (Enrage/ Giant Growth size in hallways, Giant Monster size outdoors and in rooms with high ceilings) would have done the trick.

I do ok for self healing with 112 int. I use MD, Nano+rejuventating,BRC+Reinki, Bionic shields and conviction. I can certainly see how if I had 200 int and con how this would be a beautifuil tank, but I think you really don't need as much int as all that to still be effective. I guess it depends on if you just want to purely stick to PVE tanking.

I can certainly see how if I had 200 int and con how this would be a beautifuil tank, but I think you really don't need as much int as all that to still be effective. I guess it depends on if you just want to purely stick to PVE tanking.

I'm glad you are doing well with your build. But I really wish that you'd realize that when I answer a specific question from someone else that it's not a put-down of your build. Your build is also not the topic of this thread, so it's not necessarily relevant to someone else's question. You must realize that you have multiple powers with short recharge times in your build. And you should note that I am not recommending that setup in this thread.

Feel free to post your own build if you want to talk about it. Post the whole build so that players can see the differences. Some of the players looking for advice in this thread have limited experience in CO and I'd like to keep things easy on them. Your last post, while somewhat informative for someone familiar with this game, does little good to someone that's still trying to learn.

I just came back to the game after trying it out some time ago, inspired by this idea, Pulsewave. Thanks! Did a full retcon on my level 12 (casual player, just a few hours a week) and I am realy digging it. I did notice a drop in my survivability though. Seems I get killed more often, though I am certainly having fun getting there. Gone staright with your build except for the travel power; chose flight. Kind of a pain the way flight affects my Mighty Leap. Any advice on toughening myself up, etc.?

Level 12 is really early but you shouldnt have any survivability problems once you get Defiance. You can always add Bionic Shielding or Resurgence for your next power, which should mitigate any further problems.

Pulsewave, I noticed you had two builds posted, one w/ STR and CON SS'd and the other with INT and CON. Which way should I go? STR or INT on my second SS? Thanks!

I've always gone with Super INT and Super CON. I listed Super STR in that 2nd build by mistake. It's not a big difference though. If you want to go with Super STR you should use the first build and take Unstoppable.

I was testing for myself but I felt that this thread might use these numbers since some minor STR is suggested to power Enrage.

13 STR + 8 stacks of Enrage gives 19% damage.

66 STR + 8 stacks of Enrage gives 27% damage.

83 STR + 8 stacks of Enrage gives 31% damage.

109 STR + 8 stacks of Enrage gives 34% damage.

(The % are rounded to their nearest integer and I only wrote down the first and last test, the others I'm drawing from memory and might be a tad off because of it).

It's worth remembering that melee also gets a 20% damage boost with 70 STR so even if not SSing STR pushing it to 70 at the very least will enhance the damage in about 30% (20% from 70 STR + Enrage's extra 10% from STR ).

I was wondering how dependent the giant growth is on timing. Reason I ask is that it seems like to be optimal, you really have to be on top of all the clickies. I tend to be a bit lazy when it comes to my abilities in MMO's, and I was wondering if a keybind would totally screw with what you've got here, Pulsewave. Maybe something along the lines of:

    g "+PowerTrayExec 7$$+PowerTrayExec 8$$+PowerTrayExec 9"

Where you have Howl, Enrage and Mini-Drive in 7, 8 and 9 respectively. I would think (theoretically) that since they're all clickies hitting 'g' would attempt to activate them all, so by spamming just the 'g' key (g for Growth... get it? I'm so sad.) you would be able to keep up all those buffs without having to hit each button individually.

Just wanted to get your thoughts because I think experience comes into play here more than theorycraft.

Enrage on auto would be enough. Mini Drive needs to combine with an attack that hits or its wasted. Howl makes permanent Enrage easy, but is also used as a debuff.
