Note:
I would really like to get the following three pieces of into for each Cryptic Employee in this thread:
  1. Their official title
  2. Their department, as well as their focus in that department (Exactly what the Dev does in game, details)
  3. What their typical day is like.

And of course the forum names for the people listed on Post #4 without forum handles, if they have one.

Meet the CO Team!

Production:

Poz - Male - Shannon Posniewski: Executive Producer and Director of Game Programming for CO
  • I am the (new) Executive Producer for Champions Online. The EP is ultimately responsible for the game as a whole; everything from overall game vision to programming.
  • I'm responsible for the overall health and care of the Champions Online game, including the happiness of our players. This means that I set the vision and direction of the game, schedule out updates and new features, and act as cheerleader both internally and externally.
  • Want to know more about what Poz does in CO? See: Here and Here
  • See Poz attempt to enter the mouth of Kigatilik mountain: Here
  • Has been with Cryptic since the City of Heroes days.
  • Has been the Lead Programmer of CO since launch.
  • Is one righteous dude! ^_^
Jackalope - Male - Jack Emmert: Chief Operating Officer of Cryptic Studios
  • I interact with Atari on all matters of development – schedules, expectations, descriptions. I also manage the EP's of each project (Champions, STO and still to be announced projects). I also oversee audio and animation; these are core departments whose resources are spread out amongst all games. And also our Art Director, who advises each project. I do a lot with our finance staff – making sure they have headcounts, etc. And HR – to make sure we've got good tests for our various positions. Oh, I also try to communicate with the company about the direction of our games and our methodology. I'm trying to formulate where Cryptic is going after looking at our two MMORPG launches. How can we improve. What mistakes did we make, etc.
  • Want to know what else Jack does in his new roll, check out the interview: Here
And the podcast: Here (Over 40 mins of really good and insightful info on Cryptic)

Mikado - Male - John Hopler: Lead Content Implementation Designer for CO
  • I'm the content implementation lead for the Champions Online content team. [Others] come up with the who, what and where of our content; I concentrate more on the HOW. My time is split between implementing cool new mission content and events, answering implementation questions and talking with our programmers and producers about any new technology or tool features the team needs for the areas we are working on.
  • Want to know more about our royal Content Implementation Leader? See: Here

Alivet - Female - Diana Sherman: Community Content Writer for CO and STO
  • I write for the website. I write the character profiles, I write up the Ask Cryptics, I write the interviews, I write the Meet the Teams...
So, for example, [...] I wrote up info about Lemuria, the Bleak Ones, and the Bronze King. Plus the script for a podcast, a section for the game manual, and a press release. I also cleaned up the patch notes and helped come up with villain dialogue for the game. Every week is different.

    Art:

TheGreatCarloski - Male - Carlos Montero: Lead Environment Artist for CO
    • I am become life, creator of worlds! In other words, I am the lead environment artist for Champions Online. I get to do lots of awesome stuff like drive the artistic vision behind our epic environments and guide our team of totally awesome environment artists with rocking out and making sweet environments. When I'm not doing that, I'm figuring out how we're going to push the boundaries even more and really make the environments exciting and captivating.
    • Want to know more about TheGreatCarloski? See: Here

Tumerboy - Male - Environment Artist for CO
    • I use programs made by 3rd party (Max, Photoshop, etc.) and our own proprietary engine/editor to do my work. I don't write any code. I model things (Max), I texture things (PS), and I place things in the world (Cryptic Editor). I fix bugs when my lead sends them to me and tells me to. I will send that tree location to him. Yes, that is exactly the kind of thing we (Env) fix. :P
    • Want to know more about our peachy keen Tumerboy? See Here
    • Is really Satan! Shhh :D
    • Wasted massive amounts of time creating an overly intricate and complex avatar, rather than working on the game... I have proof!!! ^_^ Here

Rbrneck - Male - Environment Artist for CO
    • I find myself doing anything from modeling and texturing simple props and large scale architectural pieces to building room interiors and fixing bugs. I'm also known to randomly and completely break things in our engine. I help out a little with marketing, capturing screenshots etc. I'm also learning our video capturing system and trying to play with that some...
    • Want to know more about Rbrneck? See: Here

Averytingwong - Avery Ting Wong - Male - Environment Artist for CO
    • I'm an environment artist, I've been around since 2004 and worked on CoV and updates for CoH. I did a large chunk of the Arachnos environments, all the sky scrapers in CoV, the updated Rikti ships and assault suits and various other things in CoV like base assets and whatnot. In Champions, I had my hand in doing something for every zone, be it terrain work, models and textures, putting together instances like the Mandragalore, Therakiels Temple and many others along with detailing work in Vibora bay and areas such as West Side. I also created Crisis areas such as Canada and Monster Island.
    • To find out more about what might be Wong :D see: Here and Here
    • Therakiel's Temple apparently contains his soul.

    Programming:

Poz - Male - Shannon Posniewski: The New Executive Producer and Director of Game Programming for CO
    • (See Production).

Lexeme - Male - Associate Programmer
    • "I mostly take care of UI related issues. Some of you who've been around since beta might remember me as aames, but I thought that was kind of a lame name so I had it switched to something spiffier."
    • Want to know more about our local Lexeme? See: Here
    • At one point had the word "underpants" in his signature... oO
    • Currently has a secret message in his signature. Shhhhh!

CrypticJWreschnig - Male - Joe Wreschnig: Programmer for CO
    • "I work on the software side of the user interface. That means a lot of things – aside from writing the code for many of the interfaces like the HUD (head-up display) or the character creator, I also created the library and tools that let our programmers and artists make changes to the interfaces quickly. Most of our UI is based in data files that are similar to HTML or Flash, and we keep adding features to that system to help everyone on the team make better UIs faster."
    • Wrote most of the backend to the UI systems we use in CO.

    • For more info see his Introduction thread: Here
    • Follow StormShade on Twitter: Here

I'm not female and RoBoBO is a producer, not QA!

Edit: Also PatchworkCat is a producer as well. Champions QA is all the people who moderate the PTS boards: AsDesigned, Turtle Surfer, Baby Bear, Iron Swan, BJ Hardbuild, BFG, Atomic Gorilla, and Higher Caliber.

Ah HA! I see where this misinfo came from. All the rescuable people in that map (To the Rescue of Noobs!) are using a civilian costume template. This has the unfortunate side effect of the occasional mixup since the categories for civilians aren't exactly gender specific. Don't use what you see in that map as a guide for what people are IRL.

My suggestion, don't make them civilians. Have them with be unique and have each person design their own civilian/wanna-be hero costume. That way they can return in future missions for more epic adventures.

It takes longer then you'd think to do that for every rescuable person in there. I had something like 2 hours to make that map so... well, I went with what I had available. =P

I don't remember ever referencing my gender... does Lexeme just sound feminine or something?

I just chose it because I wanted something suitably computer-sciencey (a lexeme in formal languages is basically a word; it's what a lexer produces when reading a file before feeding it to a parser to have it parsed)

Basically if the name was ambiguous and I didn't have any strong hints to draw from context clues in posts, or from gender specific avatars, I flagged it as female. If I put female for a male, that person is usually more likely to step in and say that they aren't female, thus I have a clarification and can correct it.

You didn't clarify, so I am going to guess that you actually are a female, further based on Tumerboy not asserting your manhood like he did with Rbrneck and Lucid.

Unless of course you say otherwise, which then I'll change it. :D

    LOL @ Brou.

    Rhyatt wrote:

Ah that's right. No I didn't miss your previous post, I was using my earlier list, so I hadn't removed her yet.

I probably would have caught it, but by the time I was that far through making those posts I had been awake for around 26 hours. I knew this would be a huge project, which is why I tried to get a Dev to do it first. :P

So I knew that if I was going to do it, I just had to jump into it and keep going until I had most of it fleshed out. So as soon as I got home from work I started doing it and didn't stop until I couldn't see the screen clearly any more. @_@

I'm happy with what I got up there, as it's a solid frame to work on. Now I can flesh it out more in smaller chunks and have it still be useful.

    Yayz! Now you're a man!

You should headbutt Tumerboy next time you see him for not asserting your manhood.

    That'll learn em. :D

So anything else you'd like to share that could go up on your profile?

Maybe you could describe what you do during a typical day like they have in the Meet the Team articles?

To me, the most important information for this thread are these three things:
    1. Your official title
    2. Your department, as well as your focus in that department (Exactly what you do in game)
    3. What your typical day is like.

If I could get these three pieces of info for everyone on the list, that would be awesome. ^_^

Maybe that's why you haven't gotten it yet? I smell a conspiracy. Or it could just be burning monkey.

    Nobody wins in a headbutt.

    Also, hai Cryptic doods!

Nobody wins, but anyone that headbutts Tumorboy will definitely lose. He's the art monkey devil after all.

    Your official title
Your department, as well as your focus in that department (Exactly what you do in game)
What your typical day is like.

    -Environment Artist
-I find myself doing anything from modeling and texturing simple props and large scale architectural pieces to building room interiors and fixing bugs. I'm also known to randomly and completely break things in our engine. :) I help outa little with marketing, capturing screenshots etc. I'm also learning our video capturing system and trying to play with that some...

I've been at Cryptic for about a year now. For CO, I built some crafting nodes and did a lot of bug fixing while I learned the tools, but the majority of my work here is seen in Vibora Bay. The train station and the steam boat are pieces that I'm fond of....also did a lot of foundation work around the city.

-My day usually starts out with catching up on email... I'm the most productive in the morning, so usually I try to fire up some tunes and/or Howard Stern and jump right into whatever I was doing last and make that focus last as long as i can. The rest of the day is a mixture of multitasking between different things, talking to / helping out my teammates, and doing whatever my lead tells me to do. Outside of work, I've played hockey for about 20 years so when I'm not here, I'm usually rushing home to get my gear and heading to the rink.

As soon as I'm back to really playing and not just visiting to check out the new content on PTS, I will probably be back to leading Ape hunting parties.

Yea....the rest of its kinda....bla ....I really have no idea what to say. Every day is a little different so saying what a typical day is like could mean a lot of different things depending on how detailed one wanted to get. I'm a litteral person...I figure if someone wants to know something about me, they'd ask.

    Bah, ignore that.

    Your answer was perfect!

Thanks a heap for replying, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Now if I could the same from the 40 others or so. :D

On another subject, if monekyboy isn't bugged with his AF drops and Dar hasn't gotten it by now, that has to be the single rarest AF in the game...
(It's so freaken rare!!! AHHHHHH I CAN'T STAND IT!!!!! @_@!!!!!)

Yah, the folks can be talkative. You just have to leave enough bread crumbs to draw them away from their work!

I listen to Stern every morning on the way to work. It generally stays on 100 unless we are on a roadtrip. Though last couple of em, we got to listen to the history of parts. Those are great!

I think my title is Associate Programmer. Like I mentioned I work on UI. CrypticJWreschnig wrote most of the backend to the UI systems we use here. I mostly concern myself with the stuff that sits on top of that. I wrote a good deal of the UI windows that you see in game, although I occasionally dip into lower level stuff too. It's hard to say what typical day is because UI touches pretty much every other system in some way. I generally just check out my personal bug list for pressing issues, then check the general UI bug list and pull some from there if I need to. If there's nothing game breaking I'll hit the lower priority bugs which can be anything form a button being out of place or some text needing to be clarified, to implementing new features for UI widgets to any number of other things.
