It appears the problem isn't the launcher but the account server. You can bypass the launcher by running C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online\Live\GameClient.exe. The problem with doing this is that you don't get any patches.
Just tried the launcher again and it seems to be working.
Can't get in - yet the website says "SERVER UP". I beginning to think Cryptic is lying to me.
You know there is 2 things you need to consider about the "Servers" first to play the game you have to pass the "Login server" were all your account information is saved and once your accepted there you get redirected to the "Game Server" so the problem i see in this is that cryptic should chance the "game server" status into the login server status as it were for the world of warcraft game at the beginning
i just remember all the problem wow had when they stated, Once you got logged in and started to play you were safe and could keep playing all you wanted until the login server crashed
if it crashed and you get disconnected you get a re-roll until the time were the login-server were still working but if you manage to stay online until it got back up your saved ^^
So if you get logged out and play for example with a friend who is still logged in he could play but not you since the login server is/was down
It could be the same thing here were the login server & the game server is 2 entirely different things ^_^!
so they might not be lying to you since the game server could be running correctly but not the login server
or both is down but the image who says online is just there as an image if so then they should really get some **** spanking!
As they say, to all problems, all trials...but sadly, to the good times too: "This too, shall pass."
Enjoy the good times, people...try not to tarnish them with too much kvetching...try to help your sisters and brothers through the rough times instead of sinking into self-pity.

Hi all Ive been noticing there is a problem with the updater, like all new games on release date theres bound to be some niggles. but for a better solution I had the same problem, now to specify my internet connection I have a wireless router in the house all I did was unplug that router and plug it back in (to reset the connection) and then the launcher update worked so if anyone is still having problems reset your connection to the internet or do as I did and unplug your router and plug it back in. In theory this should make the updater work.
I'm from the U.K the game comes out on the 4th of september officially for us, So if it continues to be a problem then i'll complain. I bought it offa' steam myself.
If the problem persists tomorrow, I'm pretty sure you have the right to bash the developers. But for now.. Calm down, it's brand new out. Theres bound to be SOME issues, when they patch it first time around you'll see it will start to get better and better. I assure you of that
Nope. We can't. But Ayelmar makes a valid point. The Cryptic staff is neither omniscient nor omnipotent. They are based in a time zone where it is currently earlier than most normal, working human being are even awake and conscious. There is every possibility that they are not aware of the issue yet, and will promptly work to resolve it once they are. Give them some time to get up to speed before you hit the rage button, you know?
(also, Ayelmar, I love all of your character designs in that signature, except for the Eagle Eye archer, who feels a little cliche. Otherwise, awesome stuff!)
That is a ridiculous post.
Launching a new MMO Internationally would and should require staff 24/7 for the first week at least.
Anything less and you risk losing customers during this crucial period.
i really dont get why people have to post "same problem" after about the 5th person. chances are if more than 1 person has it, we will all have it. it happened to me, i let it time out then tried again and im in, so i suggest that is what people shud do from now, rather than posting and whining about things. it will be sorted when its sorted, nothing can change that, not even a million people moaning.
Go into your Champions Online install directory and run Champions Online.exe rather than using a shortcut.
I was getting the error with my shortcut, but running it directly got me in. Don't know if it'll work for anyone else, or if it just stopped being an arse out of the blue.

Keeping this thread at the top, it will be one of the first that will be read when someone sits down at thier desk to start work. And hopefully will bring attention to the problem. Hopefully they are starting work now on it. Just waiting for a dev to reply and ally our concerns.
I just started the game using gameclient.exe with that I can get to the login but when I try to log in it tells me the connection to the account server timed out.
i just got this game today, and i had the same problem as all of you. It wouldnt get past the launcher, but now that i've tryed several times, it all of the sudden worked.

I don't think that runs a current version of the game, I think it's a leftover from open beta. Look at its last modified date. On mine, it's september first.
Like I said on the last page if you can get into the part of the launcher where the options are, open options and click force verify. Worked for me and I am in the game now
Is there actually an update?
I mean it was doing this to me yesterday, but my connection isnt great, tried later, no "please be patient" and it loads fine. Now, its at it again.
On a whim, I did something which used to work for CoX.
I went into a windows command prompt then typed "ipconfig /flushdns" then return without the quotes.
Then tried again and it worked.
What this means is that they may have changed the ip for the account server or patcher server but windows still has the old ip for that hostname cached.

I was in the game earlier too but now I can't get in. Same launcher issues as everyone else. I restarted my computer and got to the login screen but scharacters wouldn't appear and it lost connection to login server...
all the same here. I am hoping Cryptic is on top of this or maybe the tech team has fallen asleep at the wheel as it were. I like this game and I certainly hope they get these issues fixed before I start paying for broken luanchers every month.
"Hey billy what is that your playing?"
Billy "Its see how many Champions online luanchers you can open and close in a minute."
"Sounds fun lemme try!!!"
Doesn't work for me either, can we get a answer devs?
I got the following message [and ticket created]

Apparently, there was a patch this morning...and well..it may have screwed with things a bit.
As it was, I lost a brand-new character that I leveled up to like, level 8 this morning that I was working on somehow

You know, like acknowleging we have a problem?
We don't do much around here, we just blithely pay the bills.
Come on, talk to us, before we stop paying the bills,.,
I was in, but now I got dumped out and am back to trying to connect the patcher
