If you're just starting farming the GG orb is definitely the way to go. Try to get the Orb of the Thayan Zealot from dread ring dailies if you just hit 60, but for end game you want to aim for Fomorian Fabled, it has the highest top end weapon damage of any orb. Fallen Dragon is ok if you don't mind sacrificing a little…
2 piece dread legion + 2 piece fabled ilyanbruen is really good personal dps. I run it because their's normally another high viz wiz in my group and I like to scumbag dps :)
@ Stox - Love the guide, very similar to the thaum build I've been using since the game came out. I noticed that in your recent update to your powers, you no longer have Storm Spell. I'm aware that for this setup, Evocation is much better for AOE, because we're not using skills with no mob cap, like Sudden Storm or Icy…
You should drop the two pieces of Magelord and get either High Vizier or Shadow Weaver 4-piece. If you're going to stick with Renegade I would go with Shadow Weaver, and if you plan on switching to Thaum I would go with High Vizier. The power bonus from the Magelord 2-piece isn't really doing much for you if you're at 3k+…
I don't really see the point in running 3 CW's in a group, a more balanced group is much more effective in my experience. I honestly only like to run as a solo CW.
Power is naturally abundant on normal end-game gear-sets, you achieve 3k+ by simply equipping normal gear, without attempting to stack it or anything. Armor Penetration is much tougher to get as it occurs less often on gear, causing you to need to gem for it both on your person and on your pet to achieve the soft-cap,…
Like I said in a few posts previously, this post is not meant to be a guide. Thaumaturge and Renegade specs are both fairly cookie cutter, but at the end of the day you're going to want to play the game and figure out exactly what works for you and your normal group comp. However, I will tell you that I run a very cookie…
Because armor pen is applied before debuffs, and mitigation debuffs (assailing force, ray of enfeeblement, wicked reminder from a TR, etc) can push mobs into the negative. Bosses in t2's have 24% damage resistance, and require 2530 armor pen to bring them to zero, whereas trash mobs have 22%, or 2230 armor pen. 1000 armor…
You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and no one is forcing you to read this thread. Post something constructive or do us all a favor and simply move along.
Your damage at the end of a dungeon is relative to the skill and gear level of those around you, so when you say that you usually top the charts with those stats it literally means nothing to me. Don't use Magelord, Power is the worst stat you can be getting until you have all the other stats at soft-cap. You should be…
Sorry you feel that way, however I assure you, this isn't my intention. I'd appreciate it if we could keep the posts constructive. You say these topics have been discussed to death, but there have already been several people, both in this thread, and in-game, asking me many questions, so I'm not sure the information is as…
Soulforged for Armor, Vorpal for weapon. Plaguefire is a cheaper alternative for your weapon, but only one person in your group really needs to be using it, and a Vorpal will net you higher personal dps. There's been some talk about Lightning being good, but truth-be-told I haven't had the chance to test it yet.
Indeed, I like your chill focused thaumaturge build by the way, some wizards in my guild are using it to great effect. I've tried it and I don't really see a difference in damage from the regular cookie cutter thaum, so it's really just a matter of preference, interesting take though, it was definitely something I hadn't…
People fully understand how diminishing returns work. The question is not whether or not your recharge/ap gain will increase with more recovery, because obviously it does, but rather, what are you sacrificing to get more recovery (usually crit and/or armor pen), and does the extra recovery really let you control mobs that…
http://nw.perfectworld.com/news/?p=913661 "Ray of Enfeeblement: Two Control Wizards can no longer apply two separate stacks of the debuff on a single target if one uses the Spell Mastery version and one does not. The DoT is still applied by each Wizard individually, however." Not saying you're wrong, I'll test it out, but…
It isn't visually, but after you actually calculate the damage you do after it, and look at your character sheet, you will see that it actually is. Another nice bug from PW :) (it also does it when entangling isn't in the tab slot btw) Thank you for sharing as well, When I first started playing I was the same way. Everyone…
If you can't agree that maximizing all aspects of ones class is the correct way to play in PvE, you're probably just fine with doing it wrong, in which case this thread certainly isn't for you. I'm not sure you truly grasp the concepts, being that both DPS and control can both be done simultaneously, at a top tier level,…
This isn't a guide, I'm assuming you already know the basics of the class. Everything I've stated here, things like the 24% damage resistance on bosses, is fully supported many places on the forums, feel free to search it out for yourself as I have in the past. Everything I wrote about is common knowledge by now to…
Ancient Court Magister's Orb Ancient Court Magister's Talisman Ancient Slavemaster's Ring of Control x2 Ancient Fugitive's Belt of Revolt (Piercing Berserker Belt on your pet, which is blue, the reason for using the Ancient Belt on yourself is that you can easily reach the armor pen soft cap without the offensive slot,…
Couldn't disagree more regarding both statements. You will be able to CC the same with 3k recovery as you will with 6k recovery, any excess recovery that you stack will simply be giving you a placebo effect, and it is thus better to stack more damage in PvE. Prior to the patch, Shadow Weaver as the best, but now with the…
There will be virtually no difference in your ability to black hole with 3k recovery versus 4.5k, the number you have selected is completely arbitrary. You'd be much better off getting to the armor pen soft cap of 2200.
