Alright. I am out of option for try to fix this network lag. So I will try to put all information out on this post for internet nerd to help me out what the problem. I did follow the instruction for tracert and pingpath.
The problem start after last server maintenance which is last week which is on 21/22 Tuesday/Wednesday.
I connect from Australia. My home is at Townsville in North Queensland state. I understand that I will have high MS due to long distance. 256 MS average. But before the problem start I able to play STO just fine. Just tiny delay. Barely noticeable. I am suit to it.
Here all the info i can get.
Connection from: Australia, North Queensland, Townsville City.
ISP: Telstra
Average MS: 256 ms due to long distance from Aus to USA.

Nettest is not available as it cant connect to server and timeout. Couldn't able to get information on this.
Can any internet nerd or Cryptic staff can tell me if there any problem here? I am not nerd so i need help

I can get to my characters, but after clicking on one, it just times out.

Rather surprisingly I could connect fine while I was on Maui (before Christmas).
I was able to push through an update using force verify, but now the launcher is stuck on the next step "attempting to connect to controller tracker". I'm currently working with support to resolve the issue. I'll keep you posted if it is resolved before returning to the mainland USA.
I suspect we may be using the same lax pipe

Sometimes I can get on, but it takes so long for the characters to load, and when (or if) they do, the lag is horrendous. And if I'm not rubber banding, I end up with a "Server Not Responding" message, before being kicked out of the game.
This is literally pushing me towards going back to free to play as it seems to get worse and worse every week... 5am CST and bouncing all over the maps and even timing out in middle of STF. Never had a problem like this before... I won't sub if I have to roll the dice to connecting when I play
The ONLY resolutions to this is for Cryptic to have an EU and east Coast node or server like they used to with CoH.. Or get a proxy or virtual node which costs more money.
All I can say is this... you do not have control over the problem once it leaves your router. If you have done everything under the sun to your equipment...you have done all you can do. Speed tests are essentially worthless as they only test your speed to the nearest host IP and back... not all the other hops from there to cryptic and back. The tracert and pathping is the best test because it shows where packet losses are in the path as well as time.
DON'T GO CHANGING ALL YOUR SETTINGS. The only thing I suggest after making sure your gear is fine to your ISP, is a release and renew of your IP (if you are DHCP which you probably are) and a re-boot of your ISP's modem and maybe check your router for firmware changes (most are on auto).
If you are able to play other games online without any problems and browse and do everything else fine....it is obvious the problem lies with cryptic and/or your data's journey to and from.
Keep in mind that since the crash last week (actually the force-off for map problem) and as well as the patching to every single player that logs on and off for the release of anniversary, things have been slow and rough. Cryptic is trying to give small portions of the new content to keep people from a 5gb download on the day of...
I have rarely had a problem until the release of these patches the last 10 days or so... Just know you are not the only ones suffering from this terrible handling of data....and it isn't your setup or your ISP for most of you. It is the problem of having a single location for the entire world to get the primary data from.... as well as several other titles all running through cryptics ISP(s).
Right now the lag and constant knock-offs have been every 2-3 minutes at 2am here....never happened before. Be patient because the only help you will get is from the community....and we all have to wait for this problem to smooth out.

There is my tracert from OKC, OK. I removed my router and switch IP in this bc I am run a static IP and do not want to advertise it. As you can see I bounce from okla to texas to florida and back across to cali. Also, for some reason I am on the xboxpatchserver instead of the normal. Every time I am lagging hard I already know that I have been put onto the xbox server because I am never on it unless something is going on. I guess I get lower priority or something depending on the node I come in through. When I actually run off the patchserver and patchserver2 I have no lag issues. I cannot change this.
I also went back to my Cisco 2960 switch and saw no difference in the game connectivity. I run a remote network for my business so that switch and equipment is setup well. Wait for after the release and I believe things will clear up....

This leads me to have the sneaky suspicion that being hooked up this was isn't standard for PC players and there's something going on on the other end that probably involves rerouting us by means involving chewing gum and hot wiring.
It clearly doesn't cover everyone's issues - OP was connected to patch server 2, not xbox - but there might be a clue in where we end up. And the extra need for data dowload with these prepatches does seem to make an already existing problem, worse

No AAAA records exist for the hostnames in question.
I don't know the IPv6 protocol enough to verify your claim but this is not limited to IPv6. You can always put a frontend between your clients and your servers that do load-balancing for you. The clients would always communicate with the same frontend though.
This is a rather broad generalization. I have no facts to support or dismiss your claim though. This might also be why Cryptic ignores these threads. A relevant claim would provide a mechanism that explains how these problems occur to some users and at the same time explains why they don't occur to people like me.

The trace to Cryptic is a typical example. The non responsive second to last router is not indicative of any error but simply a result from being configured not to reply to ICMP messages when communicated with directly. ICMP is forwarded by this node though or you wouldn't have gotten any reply from the Cryptic server behind it either. People's ignorance of how this and similar tools work is unfortunately basis for many misunderstandings.
From my 30 years as a network technician I would advise people with these kinds of problems to first of all acquire a router which allows them to monitor bandwidth usage and show the source of the network traffic. Low estimates today say that hundreds of thousands of home routers are infected by trojans and are taking part in DDoS attacks or mining crypto currrency. If you have such evil code hi-jacking your router, it will intermittently use all your bandwidth and interfere with your regular network traffic. Add to that cheap and buggy firmware and the trojan can easily overflow state tables or gobble up all available RAM in the router with interesting and unpredictable effects.
Finally, myself and many other players do not experience the problems you describe. My hypothesis that the problem is on the user's side fits the observed pattern better then your hypothesis.

IMO, I think this thread has done its job... informed the affected that there is a very good chance outside of support that there is nothing wrong with their machines or software... From here on out it is simply a bunch of techs playing know-it-all... I spend 3 days a week listening to conference calls with various companies and their admins doing the same thing.... I will leave you to it...and enjoy my break from work...
However, there is much applied to a connection to a server when using the "freeway". You are always at the mercy of everything in between point a and point b... Since ISPs like cable companies monopolized the market and share with each other... You could have a great couple of weeks of playing and then suddenly TRIBBLE out.. You have no control over that. To blame Cryptic is no different than blaming yourself. I miss my old T1 and for sure miss my old SatNet... Sat was so much simpler and the most direct. Data travels a fraction the distance with a fraction of the speedbumps and to dedicated nodes and routers... then off to more "local handlers". It just sucks when you have solar wind get in the way lol. You want to talk about lag....
