phaser build, must haves?

spy8446spy8446 Member Posts: 585 Arc User
im looking for a good mix of phasers for a phaser ship, I also want one of the omni phasers.
what ones should i be looking for?
I have the retro phaser, bio phaser, a random phaser, the phaser from the phaser set and 2 phaser turrets just because.

what would be a/some good phasers to add into this mix?

Agony or pulse phaser omni beam?

thoughts?

Toss the turrets. If you're going with beams, go all in with beams as the turrets don't benefit from beam buffs.

Generally I'd lean more towards the Pulse Phasers as they have the proc for lowering enemy resistance while buffing your own. I would also suggest getting the full Quantum Phase set (beam array, console, torpedo) for a boost to Phaser damage as well as the 3 piece Quantum Phase beam clicky, which is a sustained phaser attack from your deflector. And I would also suggest at least getting 2 pieces of the Counter Command weapon/console set as that also gives a buff to phaser (go with the console and torpedo as I don't think they have a beam array).

Also I would suggest going with all one type of phaser other than the quantum phase array to synergize the procs more. So instead of having 1 beam that has a chance to disable, 1 with a DoT chance, one with the resist debuff/buff chance, have 5 or so that have a resist debuff/buff chance.

Quantum Phase Sets. Both of them. Mission rewards from Sunrise and Stormbound. Highly recommended.

Does the shield/engine/deflector set boost phaser? I thought it was more of a science leaning set...

3 piece has a clicky that boosts all energy damage.

It is science leaning as the shield gives shield heals based on using science boff powers. The whole set is drain heavy though as another poster said, there's a 3 piece set bonus that boosts all energy damage.

Depending on your ship I'd leave out any of the omnis. Would be okay on a front heavy ship like escorts and some battlecruisers but on a 4/4 ship you're better off with regular beams that have decent mods.

As for sets, an old favorite of mine is still the nuakra 2pc which gives +2,5% weapon (bonus) damage. Tended use that one with the Nukara shield & engines + undine deflector (slightly buffs energy weapons, torps and accuracy) & core (core mostly for it's 2pc +5% defense), or any other core with AMP for that matter.
Also it's relatively easy to get since nukara marks are pretty easy to farm and there aren't elite versions.

Another strong contender is the iconian set. Very defensive stats but it's 3 & 4pc bonuses are still pretty good.

Most those items are getting small buffs with the most recent patch on Tribble. Might finally break up the monotony of all-Iconian-all-the-time.

Aside from the Quantum Phase, I'd go with the pulse phasers. The debuff to your target's defense means that you and your team do more damage. This can be a real help as most enemies do not have resistance ratings so a debuff can actually take them into negative resistance. That's why disruptors have been so popular for so long. The pulse phaser has the added bonus of simultaneously improving your resistance. The three piece click attack from the Quantum Phase set can be a real beast if you have a high part gen rating.

Lose the turrets though. If you're going for a beam boat, the turrets will only hinder you. Also, given that your ship is a 4/4 layout cruiser, stay away from the Omni beams and go with beam arrays. Consider going for FAW 1 with BO3.

Thing is, omnis are pretty pointless on broadsiders like the assault cruiser. Worse mods, higher acquisition costs, pointless when you broadside. Better stick with regular beams.

As for FAW 1 and BO3, better don't. Both get nerfed real hard with the upcoming "rebalancing".
BO looses the guaranteed crit and faw..... well....
    B:FAW I -- 80% damage; -50% Accuracy
    B:FAW II -- 85% damage; -40% Accuracy
    B:FAW III -- 90% damage; -30% Accuracy

Beam overload didn't really get nerfed...Just took away the 100% crit, buffed the damage and atted 50% crit sev and bonus damage to beam attacks for the next 10 sec

i dont normally broadside enemy ships, i tend to make head on bombing runs, torp spread in the face, fly over head and drop something bigger on its head with high yield. i also like the idea of being able to directly shoot an enemy with 4-5 beams directly instead of the 3 forward weapons.

    just my taste.

I go for pulse phasers a lot, but also I find I like to use the Phased Biomatter phaser type (the one that has a chance to cause phaser based aoe damage up to four targets around your main target.). I actually find phased the bio-matter phaser type quite good in a cannon build, since they seem to proc the aoe phaser damage quite well.

You may also wish to consider the Alternate Timeline Set - you can pick up the Mining Drill Laser and Proton Charge Launcher fairly cheaply on the Exchange, and slotting those two gives you +25% Phaser Damage and (if applicable) +25% Photon Torpedo Damage as a 2-pc bonus.

The Mining Drill also gives +3 to current and maximum Shield Subsystem Power and a boost to shield hitpoints, while the Proton Charge offers the same but to Engine Subsystem Power and hull hitpoints respectively.

I have one of the bio phasers and set bio torpedo and turret, the retro phaser (upgraded to XV i think with 500 damage) i have the Quantum Phase set, the one random phaser and random phaser turret.

shields and eng etc, mix and match of 2-3 sets.

i know there is/was a way to show my ship, but i cant remember the site or anything.

Still... the turrets will not help you in the long run with a beam build. Also would be a good idea to get your non Quantum Phase arrays to be all the same flavor of Phaser to maximize your proc chance rather than mixing different types. So for example if you picked up the Pulse Phaser Omni, I'd recommend working towards getting the rest of your arrays swapped over to Pulse Phaser so that each array has a chance at the same proc.

    Agony is kinda "meh" imo.

What I'm currently doing is a full Counter-Command build on my Tac's Valiant. The space set gives a lot of good defense, while the weapon set and the weapons you get from the reputation also gives radiation damage. It probably will not wow anybody with top damage, but so far it's been fun to fly.

Edit: Oh, yeah. The space set also buffs your accuracy, which is going to be kind of important when the space revamp finally hits holodeck. Especially if you're running CSV.

For my defiant I run the following.

    front:
Quad phasers(from tier 4 defiant), Quantum phase DHC(yes there is the option of getting DHC instead of beam array), Quantum phase torpedo(from the set), Agony DHC.

    Rear:
    X3 Agony phaser turrets.

    Works decently well.

If you're going for the agony proc, you're probably better off with agony DC instead of DHC.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

If you want to go arrays, get a craftable omni phaser, pick one of the reward omni's for craps and giggles, then get lvl 2 in the borg rep, and get the Kinetic cutting beam. Gives you basically 3 omni beam arrays ontop of your phasers. It helps.

Unfortunately we can't equip more than 1 omni phaser yet. Lockbox omnis & craftable omnis fall into the same category, for some reason. :|
And since cryptic never delivered on episode based omni phaser/disruptor/plasma beams we're still stuck with 1 + KCB. :(

Yeah it is quite annoying that we do not have access to a mission based omni-array for the phaser/disruptor/plasma types that are the primary energy types of the three main factions. It would have been nice if in the two missions we get a beam array for our phaser (sunrise), and even disruptor (blood of ancient, and Echoes of light) that maybe the three piece set bonus also turned the beam array of the set into a 360 degree firing arc via a arc bonus.
