Spent Over $100 on Research Packs - No Sheshar

subzer0d1videsubzer0d1vide Member Posts: 144 Arc User
I know there's no bug and it's all my own fault. I really wanted a Sheshar - but spending over $100, buying all those research packs and no ship???

I started with 3 lobi crystals, now I have 333 - I know I'm the fool and I feel like one - I'm just posting this as a warning. The "promotion" isn't ad s great as it seems.

So if you had purchased KEYS, and sold them on the exchange, you could have a ship now.

I was out of salt, so I thought I'd pour that on the wound instead.

I opened 300 boxes without a ship once. Does that count?

Yeah its a scam is why people build up KDF assemby lines to turn dilithium into zen. Search for contraband spreadsheet so you know what missions to do for doffing and you'll either be able to supplement it or just plain out get it all for free. For me doing it 20 characters = 1.5 hours every other day for around 150k dilithium per day.

I know its a scam but there are avenues where you don't have to spend money and like selling keys is an easy way to get it. Although I will say based on the T6 TRIBBLE where ships are eventually going to be obsolete as they push more ships I really can't justify spending time or money on any more ships so what I have now is what I will have but not going any further.

If it makes you feel better... I have NEVER seen a lockbox ship come out of ANY box I've opened. Got the consolation prize ships before, but none of the actual lockbox ships. Only one I DO have was gifted by a friend.

I once got two Benthan ships in a row when opening only 5 boxes,So I don't expect to ever get as lucky as that for another few years.Might have to do with mindset,at the time I was wanting to get R&D boxes. In the future if you have money to spend for Zen and want one of the promo ships do as another poster said.Buy Keys, then sell them on the exchange.

promotion r&d packs are currently 7.5mili on the ecx. x100 ...

However don't forget the 10. rule Greed is eternal.

you want the ship you want the lobi and you want the material's ... most importantly you want to follow the 62. rule The riskier the road, the greater the profit.

others may think of you a fool but you sir are a true Ferengi. Just keep navigating your ship with skill and grace through the mighty river's of the great material continuum and you will reach The Divine Treasury. Where you will bid for your new live ...

Never consider going to The Vault of Eternal Destitution because as long as you follow the rules in your heart you can still show profit ...:eek::D

Chances for the "grand prize" ships in the lockboxes is 1/250 I would guess these R&D packs are the same so I'm not surprised

Thanks back - I at least thought I'd have a 20-25% chance per 4 pack - but to buy so many and not get a ship is ridiculous. I feel scammed.

I wanna say a BIG THANKS to everyone who posted. I got some laughs and learned more about these promotions too. Overall, while disapointed I do feel better that I'm not alone.

Thanks again guys. See you out there.

I don't like giving this particular advice to the general community, but sometimes my feeling sorry for someone clouds my judgement. Never open a box or pack expecting a ship. If you open one, it's for other reasons such as lobi crystals. That is the only time I open boxes, and doing so when the 2nd Xindi box came out, I hadn't opened more then 20 boxes and had 3 Olaen Insectoid Ships. I wasn't trying to get one, so that's why I got a ridiculous number of them. But seriously, anyone who opens more then 10 boxes hoping to get lucky is a fool.

Cryptic relies on people's impulsive and greedy nature to have that "special" or "cool" ship and that causes people to have impaired judgement. I knew someone on the forums here who opened 267 R&D boxes trying to get the JHSS. With the amount of money he spent on zen, he could have bought master keys and sold them for 2,000,000 credits each and purchased 3 or 4 JHSS. But for some reason, the majority of the population cannot grasp this concept or realize they are being lead around like sheep.

I rely on Cryptic to keep putting out lock boxes because I leach off of Cryptic's money traps. I rely on people to frantically waste money on keys...My keys. During the first few days of a new lockbox, most of the keys you find on the first 2 or 3 pages on the exchange are probably mine. I price some way above what they're worth, then I start pricing them lower and lower so that people believe players are competing against each other to make a quick sell. Not only does this provide me with billions of credits that I have to store on alts, but it also let's that 1% out there that does get lucky and get a ship, to sell it on the exchange so I can buy it.

Point in case: I took no risks at all. At no point did I need to rely on luck or chance. It was my decision to give myself master keys, my decision to sell them, and my decision to use the profit to buy the ship of MY choice. I really need to say "Thank you" to those of you that open the boxes for me then do the favor of putting them on the exchange where they're easy for me to find. While I don't like that people are falling into this trap, I'm in the Master Key business and my goal is to make a profit with minimal loss and expenditure. If I decide to tell every player out there the truth, then I would be out of business, and the market would be flooded with millions of keys that no one buys. But since less then a fifth of the community actually will see this post, I can give this advice if you don't know it already.

Cryptic is all about the math, the metrics, the numbers. They've discovered along time ago that putting a global message across our screens whenever a player get's a ship gives us hope because we see those messages all the time, especially when a new box is out. People seem to think that if so many people are getting ships so fast, then they can too. We see maybe 50 to 100 people win ships an hour if it's a super op ship. that's 100 ships out of probably 10,000 boxes or more an hour. Getting lucky doesn't seem so possible now does it when you stop to think about it?

I see people complain that ships are too expensive for the average player to get or that they wasted a bunch of keys and got nothing. This really annoys me because it is very possible to get the ships or items you want. The issue isn't the wealthy players selling things expensively, the issue is money management. A lot of people don't properly manage their money in real life and they point to all kinds of reasons for their hardship. Some people really are having it bad, but a lot just waste or don't spend money wisely.

When I got back from over seas 7 years ago, I was broke and lived with my parents. I had spent all of my money on gambling, drugs, and alcohol, I was lucky and became an apprentice to a gunsmith who eventually hired me. When I had saved up enough cash, I decided to start my own business of fabrication and custom jobs. Everything from competition shooters to a halo fan with his own body armor wanting a working halo battle rifle. I also do a lot of importing. I had a GED that's like a High School Diploma, no college or tech school, I had my skill set and what I had learned and I built a success story from there. I then could afford to go to college, even though I already had govt aid, and might get my master's in business. I apply everything that I have learned from this experience to this game and treat this game as if its economy is real money. I make objective decisions and aim to make the largest profit I can. Because I managed and procured credits efficiently and properly used them, I could afford to give out over 20 billion credits as gifts over the past year, and more ships then I could count. I actually had to get rid of credits because I didn't want to create another account just for alts to store money on.

You can use real cash to get rich in game quick if you want, but you can also get rich while paying nothing, and eventually get everything you want. There are many methods to acquire the credits you need. Scamming people is not one of them, though. Buying low and selling for higher. Buying out competition to set the price you want most people to pay. Grinding to get items that you can sell after events are over. The summer even is coming soon. If new items that are tradeable come out like costume boxes, buy as many as you can of the ones you think will be most popular, then put them away for 4 to 6 months. Male swim shorts usually go for a couple million. Everyone will be putting female stuff up cause that's how most men think. Try taking another approach. There are a lot of people that play male characters and there is now a shortage of unique male only costumes.

Making the money you need wont happen over night unless you use real money to make it happen. It takes a long time, a lot of dedication, and faith. A lot of people only make it half way to their goal and give up. They end up spending all of the money they made on something they didn't set a goal for, settling for less then they deserve. They don't get to feel the joy and pride when they finally reach their goal. It instills self confidence and they usually start to set new goals because they now know they are capable of making half a billion credit's with out paying a single dollar! You can do this as well my friends. The only question you have to ask yourself is: "Will I not stop until I reach my goal?" Good luck, and I hope you reach your goals.

{Raises hand} Nope, never got a ship out of a lockbox or promo pack either.

Have gotten a load of Lobi, which I spent a chunk of getting the Ferengi space set for my Ferengi (who still does not have a D'Kora and now probably never will).

Have gotten a lot of duty officers to fill my expanded rosters with.

Have gotten somewhat useful boosts that I would have paid more for had it not come out of a lockbox. (Of course I wouldn't have bought them in the first place, but that's another story.)

Have frankly gotten a bunch of vendor junk and filler gear. But I get (or save) EC's with that.

Have even gotten a couple of cross-faction consoles out of them by sheer chance. Sold one, stubbornly hanging on to the other hoping to find a reason to actually open it.

Have sold keys on the Exchange for a quick infusion of EC.

    Dissatisfied?

No, not much. Made my peace with lockboxes a long time ago. I only open them expecting to get Lobi and hoping for something useful like a DOFF. Even then, I need to be in a wtHeck mood to do it. I generally only buy keys when they're on sale, preferably with zen that I also got on sale. I keep about 20 of each lockbox on hand just in case I ever get a serious wtHeck moment and start opening them. So far, most of them haven't been touched.

I'm not so much interested in R&D packs because I'm not actively crafting right now. So, since there's nothing useful in them for me I don't buy them. Getting a Sheshar? Eh, I'm not that lucky even if I really wanted one, which I don't.

I guess OP you need luck to get a ship, I had 2 ships...

The Cardassian one that bought from a key that was put on exchange for 1 EC so that was already Lucky...

And with the box sale off the dominion I had a Heavy Escort Carrier in one hit on my last box from 20 keys...

So after that none ships so I do believe you also need luck that you just strike the right box at the right time...

Also my believe is when they changed from buying common, to rarity boxes the Green, Blue, Purple ones to all common boxes they changed the win outcome to all boxes too and people believe they can win a ship from it are mostly unlucky when you open a box because you bored you mostly score....

But you better of if you aren't that Lucky on winning sell keys and buy the ship from exchange and leave it to the Lucky TRIBBLE to provide you with one...

1 key or 10,000 its a 1% chance each time

    1%
    1%

Yep. I was drunk one night (Many of the best stories start that way by the way, though this isn't one of them), I saw the Jem Hadar Attack Ship available in the promotion at the time. Decided I NEEDED one for my character who has a Dreadnaught. I ended up with 600 more lobi and no attack ship. Then I went on the exchange and realized if I had sold the things I'd drunkenly bought with over 200 real world dollars I could have bought two of the damn things on the exchange. There might have been tears...

A word of wisdom: Never (NEVER) buy the gamble boxes. Just buy keys, sell those one the Exchange, and simply buy the ship.
