Cryptic/STO launcher crashing

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I just re-subbed and have been searching the forums for the past two days as well as uninstalling/reinstalling STO once, updating IE, checking what ever i thought might have an affect..

As soon i try to start up the launcher it crashes, most of the time i don't even have enough time to type in my password. I get error ticket 11479683...

the only thing in my crash log is this:

110721 13:31:32 1 MasterControlProgram[1]: Shutting down: C:\src\Core\CrypticLauncher\patcher.c(100)

WTF

I posted about this over a month ago and still the issue persist.

I know the issue isn't on my end because it is repeatable on a number of different systems with different network connections.

I am currently trying to get a refund for both my accounts.

Cryptic/Atari f00ked themselves good with this present issue among others.

Are any of you using TeamViewer by chance? If so, disable or uninstall it as it will cause STO to crash. If you aren't using TeamViewer, post up the last few lines of C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\error.log for me?

I have had TV on my machine off and on over the last year and never had issues before. So I highly doubt that is the cause as the game worked with no issues previously, hell I was even able to REMOTE in with TV and check on e-mail and fleet stuff.

Unflippin believable, STO client fubars even the most basic and standardized QoS setups, meaning it cannot and will not survive connecting to servers with any QoS or VPN connection at hosts level.

Fix it up this is ridiculous Cryptic, this TRIBBLE is taught at vocational school level to any starting programmer these days.

If you cant frigging fix it hire me.

I suggest you do a search for teamviewer and you will several post that shows the game worked after TV was shutdown. Unless you are willing to try an option suggested then you will never get your problem fixed.

the captian screen crash could be a corrupt hogg file. some antivirus programs like panda 2011 corrupts the files on downloads.
look in the crash , error, shutdown log files in the cryptic studios and the /live/logs/gameclient folder to see if a texture or some hogg file is listed (current entries at bottom of log and dated in yymmdd format)

I have been going crazy trying to resolve this issue, i keep getting the same old( C:\src\Core\CrypticLauncher\patcher.c(100) ) I know in June 2012 sto ran fine but my video card blew and i replaced it as well as did complete system restore and re-installed STO on my system. I am currently running windows xp and i have all the updates that Microsoft gives you including .net framework 4. i know my system is a little old but what could have changed from June 2012 to august 2012 and now. i will say that i did try to play the Star Wars The Old Republic but my system was not able to handle that application but in my opinion its way more advanced than STO from what i have seen and heard, but i do like STO more, but at least SWTOR does provide a 800 number service to techs that will go above and beyond to help their gamers log on or diagnose issues even if they are on the phone with you for over an hour. :) I was really Impressed with that and wished that Cryptic/ PWE would offer that level of support and services, plus SWTOR game comes with a launcher fixer/repair tool that cryptic/Perfect World should really focus on integrating to their updates rather that the silly nonsense things that nobody really cares about. STO in my opinion should be ran by Bio Ware gaming then at least the launcher/updating among other issues would be resolved immediately. I am so glad i did not buy a lifetime subscription cause i would be looking into legal actions. so I'm gonna wait till i get a newer system or if these guys can get it together and fix this major problem, if not i will be spending my money playing SWTOR, rather that wasting my money with a game that nobody can fix.

Hello I'm new to these forums! I recently upgraded to windows 7 on my laptop.
Even though my laptop probably would'nt support it being fairly old now!
    It's a Dell Inspiron 6000!
Anyway Originally Star Trek Online was working fine on windows XP and as far as I remember it was working fine with windows 7 too!

However recently when I loaded the launcher up and logged in, It patched about 1191MB and now whenever I get to the Cryptic Loading Screen The Loading Bar Gets About A Quarter Of The Way up or even less than that! The game crashes and comes up with the cryptic error.

I was looking forward to playing STO! I get this error code: 14218062
Could It be my video card! It would seen extremly odd if it were because as I said it worked fine on XP!

I am getting the exact same shutdowns with NVIDA Geoforce 610 with driver version 306.23 ((most current)) ((Windows Vista Home Basic))

In my case, a full restart occurs on my computer instantly while playing STO. It also happens in PWI.

My best guess is that the current patch contains a line of code somewhere that is incompatible with dx9. Whatever this line of code is must be present in both games.

My "Windows Solutions" search produced the remark that an "application requested incorrect driver from (my Video Card)"

I don't even get that, i just get a "cryptic launcher autoupdate" box that says "trying to update the launcher. please be patient. tried connecting x times." then fails. I've tried whitelisting in the firewalls, verifying the files through steam which downloaded the whole freakin game again with no change. then uninstalled, cleaned registry, and reinstalled it. still nothing. now i remember why i quit the game in the first place.

I'm just coming back to STO and the launcher is crashing for me. After I enter my user name and password and click login a window pops up...

    "CrypicError: Oops!

Oops! Your Cryptic Application has crashed. To help us out, please indicate what was going on at the time of the crash, while we gather information."

There's text box and a cancel and submit button. There's also an Error ticket ID 14459538. The joke is, the window closes itself out before I can even fill in the text box with what happened. I was only able to get the above by taking a screenshot before it vanished.

I bought the game originally on Steam. Steam wanted to install an "optimized" version of it. After a 4gb download it was ready to go and this happened. I said ok and uninstalled and then downloaded the client through the website instead. Same result.

I tried replacing the launcher with files on the forums people suggested and disabling my firewall and adding the cryptic launcher to the windows firewall. Same result.

I even restarted the PC (though I don't believe this has solved any modern software problem.)

    Help please.

To add to the fun, I reinstalled STO using Steam (the directories are notably different.) The steam version actually has files in the Live directory. When I run GameClient.exe it launches the game. Of course it times out trying to connect to the account server.

Version is listed as ST.20.20120812b.18 when I'm in the gameclient.

Not sure if it was the steam install or not, but the crypticerror window stayed up long enough for me to fill in the details box.

The web install has NO log files because the /live/ folder does not have anything but a piggs folder with a bunch of .hogg files in it.

So I was just checking the other forums.. seems my multi-monitor task was causing it. I disabled display fusion and walla, fixed.

Turns out if you add STO and Champions to the compatibility section it'll allow you to use STO and display fusion..

This became a problem for me in the last few days, out of nowhere. I sit at the patcher screen for a few minutes, where no patching occurs but the 'patch' button never changes to 'engage', and then the window crashes. Every time.
