  • Numbers. Viewers. If it was getting tons of views (especially from new subscribers) they wouldn't be cancelling it, they would be renewing it for more seasons.
  • Tribble is back up and I still have a number of ships for any still interested 🙂
  • That's not how forums work. You get to start a discussion, but you don't get to decide what comes next or whether people "get" it or not. Also, you really need to learn how to format a post.
  • Speaking generally, there are 2 fundamentally different approaches to sending a moral message. One is inspiring people to be better, the other is shaming them for not being on the 'right' side. I don't think Trek is anymore 'woke' now than it ever was. Trek has always heavily referenced RL issues. But to me the older Trek…
  • :D :D :D
  • Actually, nevermind. I haven't posted on the forums in a while and I had honestly forgotten how tiresome it can be. I've already said all I care to say, so take care! :)
  • Hey, sorry you misunderstood. I'm actually not trying to argue just for the sake of arguing. Like I said, if people are willing to be intellectually honest and just admit that there is simply no minimum amount that will ever be good enough for Cryptic that doesn't involve gambling, fine. Likewise, and for the inspiration…
  • Still missing the point. The word "necessary" implies there is some certain specific amount that is needed to fill some certain specific need, kind of like your earlier "keeping the lights on" comment. Except that's not actually the case here, because just making a TON of money from direct selling pixel ships isn't good…
  • It's for the best. Not sure why, but some people seem to feel like they need a massive billboard announcing their presence every time they post, and it's gotten way out of hand IMO. I remember there used to be a rule that a sig could not exceed a certain size(I think mine is still whatever size that rule was, mainly…
  • Couldn't agree more! So not only do we have the player side-lined in the story, but a ton of money that could theoretically pay the salaries of additional team members (resulting in more content more often) is instead being spent on the celeb VO. But hey, I'm sure their magic metrics tell them it's better to have a famous…
  • You know what really sucks? This game has taken a lot of the fun out of watching new shows, because the moment you see a cool ship you immediately realize the ONLY way you will fly it in this game is gambling. It's a pretty sad situation, TBH.
  • Part of the problem, IMO, is that this is the only Trek MMO. And unfortunately that means Cryptic has a total monopoly on this particular market. If you want to play a Trek MMO...you have no other options. If you want to have an end game Connie, you have no options except what this game offers and no way to get it except…
  • That's really the entire crux of the matter. I think we all understand they CAN'T make as much money just selling ships outright. Even your proposed idea of selling them for $300 a pop wouldn't maintain the same profit margin, because a lot of people wouldn't actually buy something that expense. And yet, addicts and people…
  • Of course. In fact, every business should have people to gamble instead of just selling things normally, right? I know right? Life is funny! BTW what type of space creature are you? And how does that type of creature relate to your posts on the forum?
  • Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with any of that. My point was really about your "keeping the lights on" statement. Let's not be ridiculous and pretend Cryptic couldn't stay in business by just outright selling pixel ships, because they certainly could. They just know they can make more by having people gamble for them. It's…
  • I've got a better idea: let's all start coloring out posts like BMR. I think I'll use this nice gold color from now on. It goes well with my 'Ferengi' theme. Everybody just pick your favorite color and let's have fun :)
  • Yeah, no. Trek fans are notorious collectors. Just putting ships like the TOS connie in the C-store would have made INSANE profits. See the huge mudds/anniversary bundles for examples of stuff like that. The thing is, they aren't happy with INSANE profits. They want GAMBLE profits. So no, it's not about "keeping the lights…
  • Already responded this point in another post: You're talking about what they were doing YEARS ago, I'm talking about how things work now.
  • Maybe, but here is the part that isn't really subjective: any new ship from a new show is going in a gamble box. That's basically it. So if you are watching the new shows and see a new ship you like, you'll only get to fly it in this game by gambling. However, because absolute statements usually aren't true, I'll amend the…
  • No doubt; people with addictions are going to spend a ton of money chasing their pipe dream. I know time flies, but that was actually several years ago now and all ships that have appeared in shows since then (with exception of those already with a C-store counterpart like the Luna) have been put in the gamble packs. The…
  • "Good" refers to performance IMO, so I think "desirable" is a better term. Fact is, any new "iconic" ship from this point forward is going in a gamble pack unless they already have some pre-existing version of it already available in the C-store, which kind of "forces their hand" to put new/updated version in the C-store…
  • Without getting into any "blame", I'm just going to be brutally honest: the dilex is never going to be fixed. The situation is too complicated, and they have too many other priorities, it's simply not.going.to.happen. The dilex is now on the same list as those Fed/KDF war missions that were removed and they have been…
  • TBH, I've lost all hope for this game when it comes to the ship/gambling situation. Despite the fact that the game itself is "free", for me the pace of new content is simply too slow to make up for the truly horrible lockbox situation that is now the norm for basically any desirable ship that appears on a TV show going…

  • TBH, I think this is on the back burner and is not actively being worked on anymore. That said, maybe having a Disco style Andorian (Hemmer) in the new Trek show will change that.
  • Actually, no. According to the financial details released when PWE was sold to Gearbox, NW had made approximately double the revenue STO had despite being a younger game. I'm not sure where people get this impression that STO is somehow the biggest game Cryptic has?
  • STO's F2P model is great for brand new players, but pretty terrible once a new player get's "caught up" on content, IMO. When you're brand new you haven't played anything yet, so the fact that all of the game's "playable" content is free is great! But once a player actually gets "caught up" on content (meaning they have…
  • Said it before, but I'm always happy to see an over-priced bundle I have zero interest in. No temptation what-so-ever :D
