I understand the question of what is the light if the camera can only see infrared. To me though, the really interesting point is that the deer see whatever is going on, and more importantly, they don't appear to be spooked by it.

The spiders really creeped me out. But then they always have in the book, too. I was surprised at the pronunciation of the dragon's name. I'd always assumed what I was reading, Smaug, was a deliberate misspelling of "smog", which, if you think about it, is a perfect name for a smoke-belching dragon.
