  • Back when I played the game, the Foundry was the best part of it, and I enjoyed making missions more than just about anythign else in the game. However, I eventually soured on the Foundry because I felt Cryptic wasn't serious about supporting it, and I got sick of being treated like a second or third class citizen. So, I…
  • Nice job guys. Looks like the Foundry has come a long way in the last couple of years.
  • Honestly that never was a real problem. All it takes is one 3 or 2 star review, or a couple, and the mission moves back down the list. Making it so new missions have no chance of getting any traction was a real step in the wrong direction. This was a change that no one really asked for. There has been quite a bit of…
  • These are actually really good additions. I might have to set aside some time to come back to the game to update my maps. Although it would be nice if we had some sort of better lighting for custom interiors still.
  • It looks really good, but without an increase in the detail limit it wouldn't be practical except in a very small map. I wish they would increase the detail limit to at least 1000 (around what it is in Neverwinter). The detail limit is just too low so you can't really decorate large levels.
  • Yeah just about any option would help. Although, I think a backdrop that could increase ambient lighting would be the best option. That way we don't have to waste detail objects on placing a bunch of lights. If you combine an ambient lighting increase with a generic starfield you would be able to have any sort of starship…
  • Any possibility of getting some lights so that custom interior maps aren't so incredibly dark?
  • In my opinion, Cryptic has made it very clear at this point what role the Foundry plays in the game. I still have a couple of Foundry missions I left unfinished, but unless there are some dramatic changes, I doubt I'll be back. I'm sorry my time with the Foundry had to end this way, but the situation is what it is.
  • I'd say it's doubtful a programmer has even looked at it since it was abruptly pulled.
  • Well, I wouldn't hold your breath about letting us design PvP maps. In my observation, Cryptic doesn't seem interested in leveraging the Foundry to the extent that they could, whether it's due to lack of vision on their part, or some other reason. To be honest, if you consider the Foundry in the context of how the game…
  • If they were planning to do anything for the Foundry, then I doubt they would be downplaying it in this way. I feel more like they would be plugging up coming attention, etc. The fact that we're actually being told that resources are going to PvP instead doesn't bode well at all.
  • I frankly feel they're making the wrong call. PvP was left to languish for so long that it's basically dead anyway. I think the Foundry still has some life, and also the Foundry adds more to the game content-wise. The unfortunate thing is I don't feel they even need to devote that much to the Foundry to get it fixed up.…
  • We're not really big enough to constitute a riot. It would be more like a "small demonstration". ;)
  • I wouldn't feel too self conscious about it not being completely your story. There have been plenty of times that people have succeeded by almost full scale ripping off another work. The Magnificent Seven was practically a scene for scene rip off of Seven Samurai. And I mean that literally. In one movie here's a guy…
  • I've always felt that their existence was just an oversight. It could also be that at one time we were going to be able to reuse the same map multiple times in the storyline. Either way, however, it has never served a functional purpose.
  • Yeah, if you come up with some plausible explanation for it, then that would be better. It could even be that another election has taken place and Okeg is gone. It would be an improvement if you at least provide some sort of explanation to show that you're aware of who the canon President supposedly is, and have tried to…
  • If I were you I'd change it to be the actual canon (as per backstory) President. The problem is the President's identity is known. If you were naming the commander of Starbase 44, no one would care, because no one has been placed in that position, so there's no conflict or contradiction. I don't think it's "disrespectful",…
  • It's always nice to hear that people out there appreciate the Foundry. I'm just afraid PWE doesn't.
  • Are you sure it's not possible to salvage the map somehow? Anything actually placed on the map (map dialogue, contact, etc) should be able to be copied off. The only issue may be things in the story, but they should be able to be recreated via cut and paste. Provided you can find another map that sort of fits, it seems to…
  • I think it would be funny if GPL could be tipped. It would be very appropriate for Ferengi themed missions. Nearly useless, sure, but still funny. I'd get a kick out of receiving some GPL. :D
  • That's pretty bad if the fix requires a manual republish. It means that every mission made by an author that has left the game or been away from the game for a while will remain broken. They should have autorepublished the missions in that case.
  • If the Foundry actually had any sort of support it probably wouldn't be hard to fix this. When a spotlight is republished, a comparison could be run between the old version and the new version to flag any changes. Those would then be displayed for someone to approve before the mission was republished. This would prevent…
  • But, seriously, why not remove the restriction? I mean, what is it even accomplishing? It's a game where you can get another account for free! If you want to exploit you can just make a new free account, throw down a few thousand dilithium to buy a Foundry slot (basically trivial in terms of time to accomplish). Then make…
  • Depending how far away you are from the walls, the offset has to be larger to prevent flickering. 0.001 works fine for most hallway size layouts. If you're further away than that you may need to use 0.01 instead, or even 0.1. The issue is that with larger values, when you are right up next to the wall you can see that some…
  • In regards to this quote, I think the reality is the Foundry community has cut Cryptic an incredible amount of slack. We've maintained optimism, probably naively, in the face of overwhelming evidence that suggests the Foundry not only has a low priority, it has no priority at all. At this point I think you have to assume…
  • I think this would be very useful. However, my question is with the current state of the Foundry, does anyone really want to put in a lot of work helping support a tool that doesn't even appear to be supported by the actual developers?
  • Well, I think my predictions were mostly correct, with the exception being that I'm not sure whether Cryptic even fully lived up to them. Namely, I'm not sure whether all of the serious bugs have been fixed, but I haven't loaded up the Foundry in months so I wouldn't know. In a way I hate to even post anymore on this topic…
  • At the end of a mission it should also automatically display a list of other missions you've made, and ideally also a list of other missions you've rated highly. But, yeah, being on the list is the most important aspect to getting your missions played, and the higher the better. Since a lot of the highest rated missions…
  • I honestly think that we need both. I believe something like this was even suggested back at the Foundry's Skype conference call, however long ago that was. At this point the ball is really in Cryptic's court. They can either do something or not, but if they do nothing then I have doubts about the long term viability of…
  • I would have the author get five votes and then have it be majority vote. That way if it's tagged wrong, by the time it gets through review it should be fixed. I also think the category tagging for combat vs story should be mutually exclusive. You choose whichever fits better, not both.
