How could that be the problem? Every Zen spent in the store still had to be bought by someone (or be generated as a Lifetime stipend), so they see the same money either way. All this will do is make Zen buy less dilithium.
It depends, really. MMA fighter and boxers don't generally scream and moan even when being pounded on. I'm not sure yelling in pain with every attack is necessarily realistic. Not necessary unrealistic either, just that it's open to debate.
I think the reality is what Captain Hunter said. The Foundry has been dying for a long time now. Hell, I was not happy with how the Foundry was being treated six years ago when I quit the game! Truthfully, I'm surprised it manage to limp along as long as it did. At this point in time, killing the Foundry probably made good…
Truthfully, the game "lost me" years ago due to the poor support for the Foundry. Now the Foundry is gone for good, but I got fed up with its treatment even when it was around and in a better state than it is today. I do feel sad I didn't have much chance to play many of the missions in the Foundry during my brief time…
In the end I've decided to more or less let my missions go. I've got some friends doing playthroughs so they won't be totally lost, but capturing footage of everything from the missions was just too ambitious. I actually spent several hours trying, but it would take a dozen more hours and I'd just be stressing about it…
If you can make it so we can insert videos in between dialogues, then we can use footage from the game to fill in the gaps. I'm still trying to move forward with my plan to preserve my missions. I'm gathering footage of basically all the events that happen and hope to be able to create sort of an interactive novel, as it…
I'd say with a whimper, because the truth is this was a long time coming. Cryptic never really respected the work of Foundry authors by adequately supporting and maintaining the tool. This is just the end result of that disrespect. And also they're probably right that a lot of the player base doesn't care about the…
In regards to #1, Cryptic never did enough in the first place to support the Foundry authors by actually supporting the tool. In the six years I was away from the game they seriously could never add a "next" button so you could see mission #51+ on the list? I can't even imagine that functionality taking more than about an…
Well, after all this discussion, the reality is still that the Foundry is going down. It's not going to come back, so saving the missions means nothing. All I can say is I'm glad I cut my losses and stopped working on the Foundry 6 years ago. I had a lot more ideas, so I could have probably created a couple dozen more…
Yeah, but how excusable is that really? Maybe it's not the fault of those working at Cryptic now, but there was some seriously poor leadership/management in the past that led to this.
Well the question here is what happened to the previous UI designer? It's not like they never had one before. Hiring new people to replace others who quit doesn't actually increase the size of the team, so it's not as simple as going based off of new hires and job listings. It also sounds like Cryptic has quite a bit of…
If anyone from Cryptic reads this, I guess the one thing I would ask is if there is any possibility of extending the sunset period for another month or two. It's going to be a challenge for those of us who have missions to even salvage anything from them in such a short period of time. It also would be nice to have a bit…
Is this using the Empty Ground Map, I guess? I don't know how to solve the crash, but it might be possible for you to just copy everything into another Ground map and the use the "build at 2000 feet elevation" trick to emulate having the map empty. Just select everything at once after copying and increase the Y axis to…
I think you can not use the Foundry that often and still consider it to be worth maintaining. I haven't read a lot of fiction books in recent years, and there are some genres I would never read, but I still wouldn't be happy if every bookstore closed and Amazon and every other online outlet stopped selling fiction books. I…
Yes, the editor has always been a PoS. It has always made making a mission more frustrating and take longer than it otherwise would. Believe it or not, the current responsiveness of the editor is better than how it started out. Originally with a large custom map you were looking at wait times of 20-30 seconds after each…
They shouldn't. I didn't log in for about five years and my missions were all still published, and even the ones that weren't published were still there.
I agree with you that it won't be easy. I wish we'd been given a couple months, or better yet six months, rather than only a month. Cryptic didn't really do us a favor by giving us such late notice. All the same, it's still the best idea I have to try to preserve these stories. Making more of a video does actually open…
Well, I am sure pretty much none of us are happy about this. However, I also am not sure it was totally unexpected. Part of the reason I left the Foundry and game years ago was because I simply didn't trust the commitment Cryptic had to it. It's risky devoting hundreds of hours of time to creating missions where the tool…
I'll agree with the people who say that this isn't the fault (just) of the current people working at Cryptic. I don't know if they are totally off the hook or not, but this was years in the making. With that being said, I think the fundamental design of the Foundry was flawed. The Foundry should always have been compiling…
I have to agree with this. The Foundry was on life support almost from the start. It never got the investment it needed. It was rushed out to get it ready for NWN and it never really was brought up to a fully functional state. It was always patched together, even when it worked. Saying Cryptic did everything they could is…
The only solution I can think of is they could create a separate server which is just for the Foundry. It would be rolled back to whatever code was running when the Foundry was last fully functional, and it would be left in that state. No Zen store, no new missions, nothing. Maybe add a next button to allow us to see more…
I don't think anyone in the Foundry community did anything wrong. There was nothing under our control about how things turned out. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. I quit the Foundry (and game) about five years ago because I was fed up by the way Cryptic treated it. The Foundry needed a commitment of more…
The problem is this can only preserve our dialogue structure. We'll still have to come up with some other way of preserving the visual elements. I've created a post about how I suggest doing that: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1247575/how-i-suggest-we-can-preserve-our-work Edit: Well, it was there…
I'm afraid the problem is that the missions will just break. There's some issue with how the Foundry is attached to the game so that any changes to the main game break the Foundry missions. Even if the missions were left up, it would just be a matter of time until the next big update came out. As to why this is the case…
On another note, I wish that the "sunset" period could have been a bit longer. A period of say 3 months would have been nicer (6 months would be better still, but let's be realistic). That way we could have some time to play through these missions before they disappear. Only a one month warning isn't a whole lot of time.…
I'm feeling kind of sad about this announcement, although a part of me is not surprised. About 4-5 years ago I was really into the Foundry, and I spent some considerable amount of time making my missions. It's no exaggeration to say I've spent hundreds of hours in the Foundry, probably more than I spent in the rest of the…
Perhaps I just shouldn't say anything, since I have nothing but negativity to add. But, the Foundry has been treated like an afterthought dating back basically from the start. I was really into the Foundry back around 2011-2013--ancient history now--and I eventually abandoned it because of the way Cryptic treated it. It…
You should also make sure to use only common equipment. If things are still too easy then use a ship tier below what your level calls for. You could also use lower tier equipment to make things even more challenging.
