SUCCESS! @themadrigogs' post above fixed it for me. When I turned on Post Processing AND Bloom Quality (remember to hit Apply), the lights came back on. :-)

Hi Tacofangs, thank you for this PSA. I'm afraid the suggested fix didn't work for me as well. I believe I'm running on a 9-series Nvidia card (9400M, I think), if that helps with the ongoing analysis of this issue. I since proved to myself that I COULD open items on characters with less than 100 items and now understand the message of error. Thank you! :-)
