Similar problem on my newest character. Level 1-60, never once wore a kit because she can't equip them. Yes, that's a lot of map changes with every episode completed.

There's a program out there that'll basically automate it for you. Just do some Google Fu and you'll find it (YouTube will help). It'll let you bind multiple functions to one key, for example I have spacebar set to cast a full tray plus fire all weapons.
