This is very frustrating.....tried everything...always crashes(CrypticErrorOops) when I hit "engage"...no loading bar, nothing!!!
When I installed the game initially, everything worked great...than this happened, then they fixed the problem! A couple of days later here I am, with the exact same issue. They want me to think it is my problem, eg. internet connection..blah,blah,blah. If this were the case how come I've been able to play it with no issue's. I am seriously considering canceling my subscription....any ideas on what may be causing this inherit problem? I have spent more time trying to solve this than actually playing the game...I am at my wits end!!!!

It is a crash inside the Nvidia driver when we try to open a context. Please post a dxdiag report.

I've updated the one I have on my desktop...should I roll it back? Anyway's, thanks for helping me through this as your the only person who has given me a practicle response!

Your video cards drivers are nearly 6 years old, you don't think that might be a problem?

Why would it have worked just fine before? Like I said in the post above I ran the game on drivers worse than mine...yes crappy graphics, but playable. Logging in to the game has nothing to do with graphics cards.

Just update your gcard drivers. Theres a reason the manufacturers update them regularly. Do that and your problems will be solved.

Also of note: Your graphics card is actually below our minimum spec, so Caveat Emptor.

You think that in six years, Nvidia hasn't fixed any bugs? Or that this game doesn't display anything on your screen while logging in? Or that those bugs trigger instantly every single time anybody plays any game, but Nvidia shipped them anyway? You have to believe all of those things to believe this issue can't be related to your drivers.

10657567....and don't try to tell me it's my graphics drivers...They are up to date and I have a GTX 275 so U can't say I don't meet minimum requirements. It isn't crashing trying to load graphics, it's crashing cause it cannot connect to the account server...I can run the client by itself without the launcher, but then it just freezes trying to contact the account server, then after a minute or so says, I can't log on.

    Connecting to the account server...

    then...

Connection to the account server timed out. Press the Support button for additional help.

my game is crashing at the log in screen when you put the pass word in and it begins to patch since yesterday ive been playing it for the last month on a alienware m17 laptop which i bought to play the game its a bran new lap top with all the bells and wistles . the game has performed great up untill i logged in yesterday after lunch . It worked fine that morning i logged off for 2 and a half hours and when i came back CRASH HELLL . Ive updated my graphic drivers NVIDIA no luck , tried loggng admin to the startrekonline exe no luck . i havent changed anything on my computer yesterday . The only thing i noties out of the ordinary the past few days is the patch was taking longer to load not real long maybe 30 to 40 sec but before it was instant . Not sure what to try next maybe uninstal and reinstall , waiting for GM to get back to me wish they had a telephone tech support or maybe instant messaging tech support ,,,, something i spent fom 230 yesterday to about 1 this morning trying to resolve this issue with no luck just waiting on the GM to get back to me

havent played since yesterday. tried to log in today crashes after entering password. Seems pre-patch has caused this but now i cant play and i'm not happy. Its one thing to crash in-game, this i find unacceptable.

her are the steps to fix the login crash . The problem i have been having after the preorder patch came out yesterday was one you clicked to start the game your log in window would come up for your name and pass word . then one you input that and hit sumit the game would begin to load one the patch came up BOOM!! the crash would happen then the cryptic opps window would pop up asking u to report the error and STO login window would disapear . OK fellow gamers here the fix for this specific issue (dont know if it will work on other types of login problems)

fixing loging crash issues for STO

    STEP
    1. GO TO YOUR CRYPTIC FOLDER ON YOUR HARD DRIVE IN YOUR PROGRAMS FILES (USUALLY ON THE C DRIVE IN YOU DOCUMENT FOLDER OR WHERE EVEN U PUT THE GAME WHEN U INSTALLED IT )

    2. ONCE YOU HAVE THAT UP YOU SEE A FEW FOLDERS WITH SOME OTHER PROGRAM FILE TYPES CLICK ON THE STAR TREK ONLINE FOLDER.

    3. YOU COME TO ANOTHER FILE WHICH SAYS LIVE ,,,,, CLICK IT !

    4. THATS GOING TO PULL UP A BUNCH OF OTHER YELLOW FILE FOLDERS THE ONE YOU WANT IS THE PRELOAD FILE FOLDER .

    5. YOU LL WANT TO OPEN ANOTHER WINDOW AND REPEAT STEP 1 .

    6. GO BACK TO THE WINDOW WITH THE PRELOAD FOLDER ON IT YOU LL GOING TO WANT TO MOVE THE PRELOAD FOLDER TO THE NEWLY OPENED WINDOW AND SET IT UNDER THE STAR TREK ONLINE FOLDER

    7. STAR THE GAME AS YOU NORMALLY DO AND THE CRASH HELL YOU VE BEEN ENDURING THE PAST FEW HOURS OR DAYS SHOULD BE FIXED OR GOD HAVE MERCEY ON YOUR SOUL AS YOU PULL YOUR HAIR OUT TRIING TO FIGURE THIS OUT JUST AS I HAVE .

SPECIAL NOTE >>>>>>>>>>>> FOR SOME REASON I GOT A WINDOW POP UP AFTER THE PATCH WAS COMPLETE GIVING ME 2 CHOICES ON GRAPHIC SETTING SAYING MY COMPUTER GRAPHIC DRIVERS WERE OUT OF DATE (GO NVIDIA) I CLICKED TO DEFAULT SETING BUTTON AND THE GAME CONTINUED TO LOAD WITH NO PROBLEMS AND PLAYS NORMALLY AS IT DID BEFORE THE PATCH YOU EVEN GET A WARNING ON OLD GRAPHIC DRIVERS ON THE CHARACTER PLAY PAGE BUT NO WORRIES IT GOES AWAY WHEN THE GAME STARTS AND TO ME THE GAME PLAY NORMALLY . I EVEN UPDATED MY GRAPHIC DRIVERS (NVIDIA) PER GM DURRING THE TRYING TO FIX THE CRASH ISSUE PROCESS .

There you go fellow games the fix you have been waiting for ENJOY

    FIREMEDIC NEO

followed directions completely and still nothing. I think there is a fundamental flaw in the new patch. You should not have to do a bunch of file moving to get a patch to work. I tried updating the latest drivers and then the loader wouldn't even attempt to work. It wouldn't load the divx enviroment couldnt load. So i did a system restore to before the patch and i was able to play fine, but afterward it downloaded the patfch again and same problem. And from what other people have posted even people with the latest video cards are having the same problem. Did they even test the patch out before they forced us to load it and mess up our accounts???
