The problem comes down not to the Developers, but the Producers. The difference is, the Developers make the game, and the Producers want their money they invested back. They're the ones that decide when a game is to be released, ready or not.
True...but it is not a problem of the consumers. It's their fault and also that Sulu is so hard to find - they're evil!
Love the game, but server doesn't love the game for some reason.
We need to be informed, when to come back instead of sitting here, checking every 10-20 min if the server is up already.
Its a pre launch, I want to play!!!
Just extend beta and never give a clear date for launch until the devs are certain they can go live without massive issues.
The gamers would have more respect for the organization and the game in general.
That's a nice ideal, but it's just that - an ideal. It's not even close to being viable.

Yes, they could say give some approximates like: "We're working hard on resolving the issue and servers should be back up in 3 mins"
Clearly you've never participated in an MMO launch before. They've all gone 100% without a hitch, what's happening with STO is unacceptable and I couldn't possibly fathom why they're having all of these problems.
I have played SWG, EVE, CoH/V, Darkspace, WoW, LOTRO, Matrix Online. I am a HUGE gamer, especially for MMOs and I am not bothered with the way this game state is right now. Why do I not throw a tantrum like 90% of our community? Because I have been around so many MMOs I know that Cryptic will get things worked out. How long it will take nobody knows. But I am still excited about this game, I will be for a long time. I do agree that the stability of the game needs to be top priority. If i see this same result after 3 months of the game going live, I'll start to worry. I still have faith in Cryptic getting everything sorted.
There are PLENTY of MMO's that have come out over the years that have had flawless startups. The whole debate about MMOs being unplayable for the first couple months is more myth than anything. Been around since EQ1 days, I've seen more launch much much more smoothly than this game. I've paid my lifetime membership so I dont have a massive problem on how long it takes them to fix it since I'm a little distracted with other things, but giving them excuses for not being prepared is a bit stupid. They've had extensive practice in MMO development since 2004.
The only people who would be saying all this is ok and tossing up dozens of excuses for the developers ar those who are just thrilled that the game exists and everything about it is just amazing. Positive thinking doesnt fix things. Point out problems, point out that its not entirely fair, and developers work harder to please the people. Sit back like happy little sheep and they just work normally. Keep the populace happy, you get money. Upset them and people leave. Look at Funcom. They screwed with their userbase for so long that their subscriber base plummeted. That games community still has possibly the worst suck-ups I've ever seen anywhere. They pretty much deserve the endless TRIBBLE over the years they've been fed and which they have openly demanded more of.
When everyone gets annoyed, we get treated better. Its pretty logical.

It's not, keep reading.
This would be true if effort was an infinite resource. It's not. Thanks for playing.
Anyway back to the point. Sign if you think Star Trek Offline would be more appropriate at the current level of downtime...
