What happened to my Horizon?

in Star Trek Online General Discussion
I have long had and loved an Olympic class Science Vessel, of the Horizon variant. I just love that clear "fish bowl" saucer. But when I came back today I found my lovely clear fish bowl is now covered with a fugly triangular lattice of some sort. What happened, and how do I get the clear one back?

I went to the ship tailor at ESD and looked at all the options, but the clear one is gone. What happened?

    It's a shame when an old skin is removed, since there might be someone who prefers it even though the new one is better-but-different

    The old forcefield bubble was a lot better than the silly glass sphere. The forcefield made some sense if they are doing experiments that could be dangerous because they could switch off the field, that is not possible with physical glass (or transparent aluminum, which is a kind of clear sapphire sheet).

    That fish bowl saucer was one of my all time favorites. The new version makes it look like an old stained glass window. Didn't Scotty give the formula for transparent alumimum to a 20th century engineer almost 40 years ago in ST IV ?

    If there ever are people working in that section. It had no decks or anything besides the "apple core" running through the middle of the field bubble. My guess is that the scientists would be in that core section manipulating things from there.

    Add another vote for the looks of the old blue forcefield bubble. It was a truly unique look in the game. Even with much better ships to fly I would still take out my Horizon where possible just to see it fly. I kitbashed it with a different main hull and pylons, can't recall the specific mix atm, but a beautiful ship.

    So there is no way to get the old one back?

    My heart is broken. That was my favorite ship. I had a fleet retrofit with all the upgrades, it had stats to match a T6, and it looked so beautifully clean. I'm dying here.

    They have done this to several ships I have had to find replacements for, cause the remakes ruined what I liked about that particular skin.

    how do we get them to stop removing older models and leave the choice? who do we email/message? My t6 quasar is gone and I also am dead inside... i literally asked for that ship for years... finally we get a t6 equinox... and then it is gone... it looked infinitely better with a vanity shield..

    I 100% agree with this. I get that old skins may be too 'old' or 'low-poly' for the team's standards, but I don't see a real *need* to remove them.

    Huh, I never thought it was a forcefield. It's always been glass to me. The old one has a hex-pattern that I always thought was meant to represent glass panels.

    The old writeup for that version mentioned it was a forcefield iirc, also the faint hex pattern is the same as the pattern in the Kelvin movie forcefields and later DSC forcefields (which is not surprising since the Kelvin and DSC SFX were done by the same people).

    Made a bit more credible as well if you consider the look of the Protostar shields as well.

    Not mention said hex pattern is really common in forcefield visuals outside of Trek too.

    I for one welcome our "turning unspeakably ugly launch-era designs into things that actually look like they belong in Star Trek and aren't refugees from the OMNI cover art reject pile" overlords

    At least they keep the overall design theme of their launch era designs. And seeing how they translate them into different eras like they have been is awesome.

    Why not both? If someone is fond of their OMNI-cover skin, let it remain as a beta/alternate choice while the improved version becomes the new default look.
